આધુનિક સમયમાં લોકોની લાઈફસ્ટાઈલમાં ફેરફાર આવ્યો છે અને વાત કરીએ મહિલાઓના માસિક ધર્મની તો લોકો આજે આ વિષય પર બિંદાસ વાત કરવા લાગ્યા છે. આજે આપણે જાણીએ છીએ કે ઈશ્વરે સ્ત્રીને મા બનવાનુ વરદાન આપ્યુ છે અને જેની માટે સ્ત્રીઓનું માસિક ધર્મ ખૂબ જરૂરી હોય છે. પણ સદીઓ પહેલાની વાત કરીએ તો લોકો આ વાતને ખૂબ ગુપ્ત રાખતા. એવા સમયમાં સ્ત્રીઓના માસિક ધર્મને લઈને દરેકના મનમાં પશ્ન થતો કે મહિલાઓને માસિક ધર્મ શા માટે આવે છે શું છે? એ સમયે આને લઈને એક કથા સાંભળવા મળતી હતી આવો જાણીએ એ પૌરાણિક કથા ....

આપણા પુરાણોમાં ઘણી કથાઓ મળે છે , જેમાંથી ભાગવદપુરાણમાં વર્ણિત વાર્તા મુજબ મહિલાઓને આવતું માસિક ધર્મ એક શ્રાપ સાથે સંકળાયેલું બતાવ્યુ છે. ભાગવદપુરાણની વાર્તા મુજબ એક વાર "બૃહસ્પતિ" જે દેવતાઓના ગુરૂ હતા એ ઈન્દ્ર દેવ પર ઘણા ક્રોધિત થઈ ગયા.

આ કારણે અસુર(રાક્ષસ)એ દેવલોક પર આક્રમણ કરી દીધું અને ઈન્દ્રને એમની ગાદી મૂકીને ભાગવું પડ્યું. રાક્ષસોથી ખુદને બચાવતા ઈન્દ્ર સૃષ્ટિના રચાનાકાર ભગવાન બ્રહ્મા પાસે સહાયતા માંગી. ત્યારે બ્રહ્માએ એમને જણાવ્યુ કે એમને એક બ્રહ્મ જ્ઞાનીની સેવા કરવી જોઈએ, જો એ પ્રસન્ન થઈ જાય ત્યારે એમને એમની ગાદી પરત મળી જશે.

આજ્ઞા મુજબ ઈન્દ્ર દેવ એક બ્રહ્મ જ્ઞાનીની સેવામાં લાગી ગયા પણ તેઓ એ વાત નહોતા જાણતા કે એ જ્ઞાનીની માતા એક રાક્ષસ હતી આથી એમના મનમાં રાક્ષસ માટે એક ખાસ સ્થાન હતું. ઈન્દ્ર દેવ દ્વારા અર્પિત બધી હવનની સામગ્રી જે દેવતાઓને ચઢાવાતી હતી એ જ્ઞાની રાક્ષસોને ચઢાવી રહ્યો હતો.

આ કારણે એમની બધી સેવા ભંગ થઈ રહી હતી. જ્યારે ઈન્દ્રને આ અંગે જાણ થઈ તો એ ખૂબ ક્રોધિત થઈ ગયા અને એમણે એ બ્રહ્મ જ્ઞાનીની હત્યા કરી નાખી. એક ગુરૂની હત્યા કરવી પાપ હતું. જેના કારણે એમના પર બ્રહ્મ હત્યાનું પાપ આવી ગયું. આ પાપ એક ભયાનક રાક્ષસના રૂપમાં ઈન્દ્રનો પીછો કરવા લાગ્યું.ગમે તેમ કરીને ઈન્દ્રએ ખુદને એક ફૂળની અંદર છુપાવ્યા અને એક લાખ વર્ષ સુધી ભગવાન વિષ્ણુની તપસ્યા કરી. તપસ્યાથી પ્રસન્ન થઈને ભગવાન વિષ્ણુએ ઈન્દ્ર દેવને બચાવી લીધા પણ એમના પર લાગેલ પાપથી મુક્તિ માટે એક ઉકેલ આપ્યો. . જેના માટે ઈન્દ્રને ઝાડ, જળ ,ભૂમિ અને મહિલાને એમના પાપનો થોડો થોડો ભાગ આપવાનો હતો.

ઈન્દ્રના આગ્રહ પર બધા રાજી તો થઈ ગયા પણ એને બદલામાં ઈન્દ્ર દેવને એક વરદાન આપવાનું કહ્યું . સૌથી પહેલા ઝાડનો ચોથો ભાગ લઈ લીધો જેના બદલે ઈન્દ્રએ એમને વરદાન આપ્યું , વરદાન મુજબ ઝાડ ઈચ્છે તો પોતે જ પોતાને જીવતો કરી શકે છે. એ પછી જળને પાપનો ભાગ આપતા ઈન્દ્ર દેવ એમને બીજી વસ્તુઓને પવિત્ર કરવાની શક્તિ આપી. આ જ કારણે હિન્દુ ધર્મમાં આજે પણ જળને પવિત્ર માનતા પૂજા પાઠમાં ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવે છે.

ત્રીજુ પાપ ઈન્દ્ર દેવે ભૂમિને આપ્યું જેના વરદાન સ્વરૂપ એણે ભૂમિને કહ્યું કે એના પર કોઈ પણ ઘા થશે તો એ હમેશા ભરાઈ જશે. હવે છેલ્લો વારો મહિલાનો હતો. આ કથા મુજબ મહિલાને પાપના ભાગના રૂપમાં એને દર મહીનામાં માસિક ધર્મ આવે છે પણ એને વરદાન રૂપમાં ઈન્દ્રએ કહ્યું કે મહિલાઓને પુરૂષોથી વધારે ગણો કામ(સેક્સ)નો આનંદ ઉઠાવશે.

અમારા ધર્મમાં સ્ત્રીને કરૂણાની દેવી અને પૂજનીય ગણાય છે. આથી કોઈ પણ પ્રાણીને ઘૃણાથી જોવું આ પણ પાપ છે.
