ટોક્યો ઑલિમ્પિક ગેમ્સની શુક્રવારથી શરૂઆત થઈ રહી છે, કેટલાંક ગુજરાતનાં મહિલા ખેલાડીઓએ ટોક્યો ઑલિમ્પિક્સ માટે ક્વૉલિફાઈ કરીને મહત્ત્વની ઉપલબ્ધિ હાંસલ કરી છે. આ વખતે ટોક્યો ખાતે આયોજિત ઑલિમ્પિક્સમાં ગુજરાતનાં એક કે બે નહીં પણ ત્રણ-ત્રણ મહિલા ખેલાડીઓએ ક્વૉલિફાઈ કર્યું છે.

જોકે આ માત્ર નસીબ નહીં, વર્ષોની આકરી મહેનતનું પરિણામ છે. 'રમતજગતના મહાકુંભ' ઑલિમ્પિકમાં ભારત ધીમે-ધીમે પોતાની જગ્યા બનાવી રહ્યું છે, ત્યારે તેમાં ગુજરાતીઓ પણ ભારતની સફળતાનો હિસ્સો બની રહ્યા છે. આ વખતે જાપાનના ટોક્યોમાં યોજાનારી ઑલિમ્પિક ગેમ્સમાં ભારતના સંખ્યાબંધ ખેલાડી ભાગ લેનારા છે, જેમાં ત્રણ અલગ-અલગ ઇવેન્ટમાં ગુજરાતથી આવતાં ત્રણ મહિલા રમતવીરો ભાગ લેવાનાં છે.

ટેનિસમાં સાનિયા મિર્ઝા જેવાં અનુભવી ખેલાડીની સાથે અંકિતા રૈના વિમેન્સ ડબલ્સમાં ભાગ લેશે. જો શક્ય બને તો અંકિતાને વિમેન્સ સિંગલ્સમાં પણ ભારતનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરવાની તક મળશે. સાનિયા મિર્ઝા તો ચોથી વખત ઑલિમ્પિકસમાં રમી રહ્યાં છે. અંકિતા માટે આ પ્રથમ પ્રસંગ છે, જ્યારે તેઓ 'રમતગમતના મહાકુંભ'માં ભાગ લેશે.

આવી જ રીતે શૂટિંગમાં ધીમેધીમે સમગ્ર વિશ્વમાં ભારતનું નામ રોશન કરનારાં ઇલાવેનિલ વલારિવન પહેલી વાર ઑલિમ્પિક્સમાં રમવાનાં છે.

જ્યારે સ્વિમિંગમાં અમદાવાદી માના પટેલને તક મળી છે. સ્વિમિંગમાં ભારત અત્યાર સુધી ઑલિમ્પિક્સ કે અન્ય કોઈ વર્લ્ડ લેવલે ક્યારે ઉત્કૃષ્ટ દેખાવ કરી શક્યું નથી, પરંતુ માના પટેલમાં આ ક્ષમતા છે અને તેમને વિશેષ કૅટેગરીમાં સ્થાન મળ્યું છે, જ્યારે અન્ય બે ખેલાડીઓ પણ ક્વૉલિફિકેશન રાઉન્ડમાં સફળતા હાંસલ કરીને ટોક્યોની ટિકિટ હાંસલ કરી શક્યા છે.

જોકે આ યાદીમાં ટેબલટેનિસ ખેલાડી હરમિત દેસાઈ અને માનવ ઠક્કરનો સમાવેશ થઈ શક્યો હોત, પરંતુ કમનસીબે આ બંને ખેલાડી ક્વૉલિફાઈ થઈ શક્યા નથી.

અંકિતા રૈનાને 'પ્રતિભા છતાં અન્યાય થવાની' ફરિયાદ નહીં રહે

ભારતમાં છેલ્લા એક દાયકામાં ટેનિસમાં મોખરાનાં ખેલાડી કોણ, તેવો સવાલ કરવામાં આવે તો સ્વાભાવિક છે કે મોટા ભાગનાનો જવાબ સાનિયા મિર્ઝા હશે. જોકે એ વાતથી ઘણા લોકો અજાણ છે કે સાનિયા મિર્ઝા છેલ્લા ઘણા સમયથી સિંગલ્સમાં રમતાં નથી અને માત્ર ડબલ્સમાં જ રમી રહ્યાં છે તથા ડબલ્સમાં તેઓ માત્ર ભારત નહીં પણ વિશ્વમાં પણ મોખરે રહ્યાં છે.

પણ વિમેન્સ સિંગલ્સમાં ભારતના ટોચનાં ખેલાડી અંકિતા રૈના છે.

ગુજરાતનાં આ ટેનિસ ખેલાડીમાં ઑલિમ્પિક્સ સુધી રમવાની ક્ષમતા છે, તેમ છતાં તેમને આગળ તક ન મળતી હોવાની ફરિયાદ રહેતી હતી. જે હવે નહીં રહે, કેમ કે અંકિતા આ વખતે ટોક્યો ગેમ્સમાં ભાગ લેવા માટે ક્વૉલિફાઈ થયાં છે.

હવે અંકિતાની આકરી મહેનતનું પરિણામ કહો કે સિદ્ધિ કહો, પણ તેઓ લગભગ દરેક ઇન્ટરનેશનલ ટુર્નામેન્ટમાં એકમાત્ર ભારતીય તરીકે ઊભરી રહ્યાં છે. અંકિતા તાજેતરમાં જ વિમ્બલ્ડનની વિમેન્સ ડબલ્સ અને મિક્સ ડબલ્સમાં પણ રમ્યાં છે.

પોતાને બાકાત રખાયાનો ટેનિસ કોર્ટ પર જડબાતોડ જવાબ આપીને અંકિતાએ ગયા વર્ષે ફેડરેશન કપમાં પોતાના કરતાં બહેતર ક્રમાંક ધરાવતાં ખેલાડીઓને હરાવ્યાં હતાં. એ વખતે તેમણે માત્ર એટલું જ કહ્યું હતું કે 'મારી સાથે થયેલા અન્યાય માટે હું કંઈ નહીં બોલું પણ મારું રૅકેટ બોલશે.'

TOPSની યાદીમાંથી રમત મંત્રાલયે આશ્ચર્યજનક રીતે અંકિતાને બાકાત કરી દીધાં હતાં, જ્યારે તેઓ ભારતનાં મોખરાનાં સિંગલ્સ ખેલાડી હતાં.

ભારત સરકાર અને ઑલ ઇન્ડિયા ટેનિસ ઍસોસિયેશને ટાર્ગેટ ઑલિમ્પિક પોડિયમ સ્કીમ (TOPS) જારી કરી હતી. અને તેમાં દેશના પ્રતિભાશાળી ખેલાડીઓને સામેલ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા. જે અંતર્ગત એવા ખેલાડીઓની પસંદગી કરાઈ હતી, જે ભવિષ્યમાં ઑલિમ્પિક્સમાં દેશ માટે મેડલ જીતવા માટે આશાસ્પદ હોય, પરંતુ હજી એક વર્ષ અગાઉ સુધી અંકિતા રૈનાને તેમાંથી બાકાત રાખવામાં આવ્યાં હતાં.

ઑલ ઇન્ડિયા ટેનિસ ઍસોસિયેશને તો એવું કારણ આપ્યું છે કે 'આ યાદી તૈયાર કરવા માટે નેશનલ ઑબ્ઝર્વર સોમદેવ દેવબર્મનની ભલામણને ધ્યાનમાં રાખવામાં આવી હતી, જેમણે એવો રિપોર્ટ આપ્યો હતો કે અંકિતાએ એવી કોઈ પ્રગતિ કરી નથી કે તેમને સામેલ કરવામાં આવે.'

આ રિપોર્ટના થોડા જ દિવસમાં અંકિતા રૈનાએ ફેડરેશન કપમાં સફળતા હાંસલ કરીને દેશને ગૌરવ અપાવ્યું હતું, પણ આ બાબતને નજરઅંદાજ કરવામાં આવી.

1993ની 11મી જાન્યુઆરીએ અમદાવાદમાં જન્મેલાં અંકિતા રૈનાની કારકિર્દીની સૌથી મોટી સફળતા એ રહી કે તેમણે ફેડરેશન કપમાં યુલિયા પુતિનત્સેવાને હરાવ્યાં હતાં.

જે તેમની કરતાં બહેતર ક્રમાંક તો ધરાવતાં જ હતાં, પણ સાથે-સાથે ફ્રેંચ ઓપન ગ્રાન્ડસ્લેમમાં ત્રીજા રાઉન્ડ સુધી રમ્યાં હતાં અને સેન્ટ પિટર્સબર્ગ ખાતેની અન્ય એક વિમેન્સ ટેનિસ ઍસોસિયેશનની ટુર્નામેન્ટમાં ટૉપ-10માં સ્થાન ધરાવતાં હતાં.

ઑલ ઇન્ડિયા ટેનિસ ઍસોસિયેશને થોડા પ્રારંભિક ખચકાટ બાદ TOPSની યાદીમાં અંકિતાનો સમાવેશ કરવાનો નિર્ણય લીધો, પરંતુ તેમને અન્ય ખેલાડીઓની માફક આર્થિક સહાય પ્રાપ્ત થતી નથી.

ઇલાવેનિલ વલારિવન નામ થોડું અજાણ્યું લાગે, પરંતુ ભારતીય શૂટિંગ જ નહીં વર્લ્ડ શૂટિંગમાં તેઓ સનસનાટી મચાવી રહ્યાં છે અને ઑલિમ્પિક્સમાં પણ ભારત આ અમદાવાદી શૂટર પાસેથી મેડલની અપેક્ષા રાખે છે.

મૂળ તામિલનાડુના પણ અમદાવાદમાં સ્થાયી થયેલાં ઇલાવેનિલ છેલ્લા કેટલાય સમયથી શૂટિંગમાં જોરદાર સફળતા હાંસલ કરી રહ્યાં છે.

છેલ્લે ચીનમાં યોજાયેલી ઇન્ટરનેશનલ શૂટિંગ સ્પૉર્ટ્સ ફેડરેશન (આઈએસએસએફ)ની વર્લ્ડ શૂટિંગ ફાઇનલ્સમાં ભારતે પ્રથમ દિવસે જ ગોલ્ડ મેડલ જીતી લીધા હતા, જેમાંનો એક મેડલ ઇલાવેનિલે ભારતને અપાવ્યો હતો. ઇલાવેનિલે 10 મીટર ઍર રાઇફલ ઇવેન્ટમાં 250.8ના શોટ સાથે તાઇવાનનાં શૂટર લિન યિંગ (250.7)ને પાછળ રાખી દીધાં હતાં. રોમાનિયાનાં લૉરા જ્યોર્જિયા કોમાન ત્રીજા ક્રમે રહ્યાં હતાં, પરંતુ તેમનો સ્કોર 229 હતો.

શૂટિંગમાં એલાવેનિલના 250.8ની સરખામણીએ 229નો સ્કોર ઘણો પાછળ ગણાય છે અને આ સ્કોર જ ઇલાવેનિલનું વર્ચસ્વ પુરવાર કરી દે છે. જોકે ફાઇનલ્સમાં અમદાવાદનાં આ શૂટર 631.1ના ઓવરઑલ સ્કોર સાથે યિંગ શીન (632.3) કરતાં પાછળ રહ્યાં હતાં.

છેલ્લી બે-ત્રણ સિઝનથી ઇલાવેનિલ વલારિવાન ગજબની સફળતા હાંસલ કરી રહ્યાં છે. તેઓ જુનિયર્સમાં રમતાં હતાં, ત્યારથી જ ગોલ્ડ મેડલ જીતવાની જાણે આદત કેળવી ચૂક્યાં હોય તેમ સતત મેડલ જીતતાં રહ્યાં છે. 1999ની બીજી ઑગસ્ટે તામિલનાડુના કુડ્ડાલોર ખાતે જન્મેલાં ઇલાવેનિલ બાળપણથી જ પરિવાર સાથે અમદાવાદમાં સ્થાયી થયાં છે અને તેમણે અંગ્રેજી સાહિત્ય સાથે આર્ટ્સમાં બેચલર ડિગ્રી મેળવી છે. ગુજરાત સ્ટેટ શૂટિંગ ચૅમ્પિયનશિપમાં ઉપરાઉપરી મેડલ જીત્યા બાદ તેઓ નેશનલ્સ માટે ક્વૉલિફાઈ થયાં અને ત્યારબાદ તો તેમણે દેશભરમાં ધૂમ મચાવી દીધી હતી.

શૂટિંગમાં એલાવેનિલના 250.8ની સરખામણીએ 229નો સ્કોર ઘણો પાછળ ગણાય છે અને આ સ્કોર જ ઇલાવેનિલનું વર્ચસ્વ પુરવાર કરી દે છે.

જોકે ફાઇનલ્સમાં અમદાવાદનાં આ શૂટર 631.1ના ઓવરઑલ સ્કોર સાથે યિંગ શીન (632.3) કરતાં પાછળ રહ્યાં હતાં.

1999ની બીજી ઑગસ્ટે તામિલનાડુના કુડ્ડાલોર ખાતે જન્મેલાં ઇલાવેનિલ બાળપણથી જ પરિવાર સાથે અમદાવાદમાં સ્થાયી થયાં છે અને તેમણે અંગ્રેજી સાહિત્ય સાથે આર્ટ્સમાં બેચલર ડિગ્રી મેળવી છે.

ગુજરાત સ્ટેટ શૂટિંગ ચૅમ્પિયનશિપમાં ઉપરાઉપરી મેડલ જીત્યા બાદ તેઓ નેશનલ્સ માટે ક્વૉલિફાઈ થયાં અને ત્યારબાદ તો તેમણે દેશભરમાં ધૂમ મચાવી દીધી હતી.

2018માં ઇન્ટરનેશનલ શૂટિંગ સ્પૉર્ટસ ફેડરેશન (આઈએસએસએફ)નો જુનિયર વર્લ્ડ કપ યોજાયો હતો, જેમાં તેમને ગોલ્ડ મેડલ મળ્યો હતો.

આ સફળતા બાદ તરત જ તેમણે 2019ની વર્લ્ડ યુનિવર્સિટી ગેમ્સમાં ભાગ લીધો હતો. આ વખતે 10 મીટર ઍર રાઇફલમાં તેમણે સિલ્વર મેડલ પ્રાપ્ત થયો હતો.

જોકે તેનાથી તેઓ હતાશ થયાં નહીં અને લક્ષ્ય પર નિશાન તાકી રાખ્યું, જેના પરિણામે સુહલ ખાતે યોજાયેલા જુનિયર શૂટિંગ વર્લ્ડ કપમાં તેમને તક મળી અને અહીં ફરીથી ગોલ્ડ પર નિશાન સાધ્યું અને ભારતને જુનિયર્સમાં વધુ એક સફળતા અપાવી.

2016માં જ્યાં ઑલિમ્પિક્સનું આયોજન થયું હતું તે બ્રાઝિલના રિયો ડી જાનેરો ખાતે ઑગસ્ટ 2019માં આઈએસએસએફ 10 મીટર ઍર રાઇફલ વર્લ્ડ કપ યોજાયો હતો. ઇલાવેનિલની આ માનીતી ઇવેન્ટ છે અને ભારતને તેમની પાસેથી ઘણી આશા હતી.

તેમણે ભારતીય શૂટિંગ અને દેશવાસીઓને નિરાશ કર્યા નહીં અને 251.7ના સ્કોર સાથે ફરીથી ગોલ્ડ મેડલ જીતી લીધો.

ઇલાવેનિલ વલારિવાન અત્યારે જે રીતે દેખાવ કરી રહ્યાં છે અને ઉપરાઉપરી વર્લ્ડ ઇવેન્ટમાં જે રીતે મોખરાનું સ્થાન હાંસલ કરી રહ્યાં છે તે જોતાં હવે એ દિવસો દૂર નથી જ્યારે અમદાવાદનાં આ શૂટર ઑલિમ્પિકસમાં દેશને ગોલ્ડ અપાવે.

આ વખતે ટોક્યો ઑલિમ્પિક્સમાં ભાગ લેનારાં ભારતનાં તમામ મહિલા ખેલાડીઓમાં કદાચ માના પટેલ સૌથી જુનિયર હશે.

આમ છતાં તેઓ આકર્ષણનું કેન્દ્ર બની રહેશે, કેમ કે સ્વિમિંગમાં ભારત ક્યારેય અગ્રેસર રહ્યું નથી અને તેમાં ભારતના મેડલની અપેક્ષા પણ રખાતી નથી. આ બાબત માના માટે શાપમાં આશીર્વાદ બની શકે છે, કેમ કે તેમના પર અપેક્ષાઓનું દબાણ નહીં હોય.

ઑલિમ્પિક્સમાં સ્વિમિંગની 100 મીટર બૅકસ્ટ્રૉક કૅટેગરીમાં ભાગ લેવો એ સૌથી કપરી બાબત છે અને માના પટેલ અહીં ભારતનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરનાર છે. હકીકતમાં આ ઇવેન્ટમાં ભાગ લેનારાં માના પટેલ ભારતનાં સૌપ્રથમ મહિલા સ્વિમર બન્યાં છે.

2000ની સાલની 18મી માર્ચે અમદાવાદમાં જન્મેલાં માના પટેલે માત્ર 11 વર્ષની વયે કમલેશ પટેલના માર્ગદર્શનમાં સ્વિમિંગનો પ્રારંભ કર્યો હતો.

માનાના પિતા રાજીવ પટેલ કહે છે કે બાળપણમાં માનાની રુચિ વિવિધ રમતોમાં હતી, પરંતુ સ્વિમિંગમાં વધારે રસ દાખવતી હોવાથી તેણે તેમાં જ કારકિર્દી બનાવવાનું અને આગળ વધવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.

,અમદાવાદનાં દીકરી માના પટેલ ઑલમ્પિક્સમાં દેશનું 'માન' વધારશે?

2000ની સાલની 18મી માર્ચે અમદાવાદમાં જન્મેલાં માના પટેલે માત્ર 11 વર્ષની વયે સ્વિમિંગનો પ્રારંભ કર્યો હતો. અભ્યાસમાં પણ માના પટેલ એટલાં જ નિપુણ હતાં. ધોરણ-12માં તેઓ 85 ટકાથી વધુ માર્કસ સાથે ઉત્તીર્ણ થયાં. જોકે એકૅડેમિક કારકિર્દીને બદલે સ્પૉર્ટ્સમાં જ કારિકિર્દી ઘડતર કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.

છેલ્લા એક દાયકામાં અમદાવાદ કે ગુજરાતમાં ઓછાં અને દેશવિદેશમાં વધારે રહેતાં માનાએ 78 નેશનલ અને 25 ઇન્ટરનેશનલ ઇવેન્ટ્સના મેડલ્સ પોતાના નામે કર્યા છે. તેમણે કુલ 150થી પણ વધુ મેડલ પ્રાપ્ત કરીને પોતાની પ્રતિભા દાખવી છે, જેનું પરિણામ એટલે ટોક્યો ગેમ્સની ટિકિટ.

માનાની કારકિર્દીનો પ્રારંભ રાજ્યના ખ્યાતનામ સ્વિમિંગ કોચ કમલેશ નાણાવટીના માર્ગદર્શન હેઠળ થયો હતો. 2011થી 2015 સુધી કમલેશ નાણાવટીએ માના પટેલને તાલીમ આપી હતી. કમલેશ સર તરીકે જાણીતા નાણાવટી કહે છે કે "ઑલિમ્પિક્સ માટે માનાની પસંદગી થાય એનાથી ખાસ નવાઈ નથી, કેમ કે તે બાળપણથી જ દરેક કક્ષાએ ઉમદા દેખાવ કરતી આવી છે."

"ચાર વર્ષ અગાઉ તે ઈજાગ્રસ્ત ના થઈ હોત તો તેણે રિયો ઑલિમ્પિક્સમાં પણ ભાગ લીધો હોત. જોકે ઘાયલ હોવા છતાં સફળતા હાંસલ કરવાની જીદ અન જુસ્સાએ જ તેની કારકિર્દી ટકાવી રાખી છે અને આજે તે આ કક્ષાએ પહોંચી છે."

માના પટેલનાં માતા આનલ પટેલ કહે છે કે "મને આજે પણ હૈદરાબાદ ખાતેની એ સ્પર્ધા યાદ છે, જ્યાં માનાએ પુરુષોને હરાવીને રાષ્ટ્રીય રેકૉર્ડ પોતાના નામે કર્યો હતો."

"ફાફડા અને ઢોકળાં ખાનારી ગુજરાતી દીકરી આટલું શ્રેષ્ઠ પ્રદર્શન કરી શકે તે હૈદરાબાદના લોકો માટે પણ આશ્ચર્યજનક બાબત હતી."

માનાની આ સફળતા પાછળ માતા આનલબહેન, પિતા રાજીવભાઈ તથા કોચ કમલેશ નાણાવટીનું સમર્પણ પણ એટલું જ મહત્ત્વનું છે.

ખુદ માના પટેલ કહે છે કે "મારાં માતાએ બાળપણથી જ પરસેવો રેડીને મારી કારકિર્દી ઘડવા માટે અથાગ પરિશ્રમ કર્યો છે. કોચ નાણાવટી સરે હંમેશાં મારો જુસ્સો વધાર્યો છે, તેમણે જ મારી પ્રતિભાને ઓળખીને મારા પર ભરોસો મૂક્યો છે.
