જયા બચ્ચનએ લાંબા સમયથી બૉલીવુડથી દૂરી બનાવી રાખી છે. વર્ષ 2011માં અમિતાભ બચ્ચન અને જયા બચ્ચન સિલ્વર સ્ક્રીન પર એક સાથે નજર આવ્યા હતા. આ ફિલ્મ હતી "કભી ખુશી કભી ગમ" ત્યારબાદથી અત્યારે સુધી ફેંસએ બન્નેને એક સાથે જોવાના અવસર નહી મળ્યા છે.

સિમી ગરેવાલના ચેટ શો Rendezvous માં અમિતાભએ તેમની અને જયાની પ્રથમ ભેંટ અને લવ સ્ટોરીના વિશે જણાવ્યું હતું. બિગ બીએ જયાને પહેલીવાર એક મેગ્જીનના કવર પાના પર જોવાયું હતું. મેગ્જીન પર જયાને જોતા જ અમિતાભ ખૂબ ઈંપ્રેસ થયા હતા.

અમિતાભએ જનાવ્યું કે તે હમેશા એવી છોકરી ઈચ્છતા હતા. જે અંદરથી ટ્રેડિશનલ અને બહારથી માર્ડન હોય. જયા એકદમ તેમજ હતી. અમિતાભએ આ પણ જણાવ્યું કે જયાની આંખ તેને ખૂબ સુંદર લાગી હતી. તેના ખૂબ સમય પછી ઋષિકેષ મુખર્જી ફિલ્મ "ગુડ્ડી" ની સ્ક્રિપ્ટ લઈને અમિતાભ પાસે આવ્યા.

અમિતાભની સાથે ફિલ્મમાં જયાને કાસ્ટ કરાયું. અમિતાભ, જયાની સાથે કામ કરવા માટે ખૂબ એક્સાઈટેડ હતા. જયાએ જનાવ્યું કે તે પહેલી નજરનો પ્રેમ નહી હતુ. જ્યાએ જનાવ્યું કે 1970માં તેને અમિતાભને પહેલીવાર પુણે ફિલ્મ ઈંસ્ટીટ્યૂટમાં જોયું હતું.

તે ત્યાં ફિલ્મમેકર કે.અબ્બાસ અને તેમના પૂરા ગ્રુપની સાથે ત્યાં પહોંચ્યા હતા. અમિતાભની પર્સનેલિટી જયાને ખૂબ પસંદ આવી હતી. તે સમયે અમિતાભ સ્ટ્રગલ કરી રહ્યા હતા. પણ જયા ત્યારસુધી સ્ટાર બની ગઈ હતી. ત્યારબાદ જ્યારે બન્નેની ભેંટ ગુડ્ડી"ના સેટ પર થઈ ત્યારે તે સારી મિત્ર બની ગયા હતા.

"ગુડ્ડી" પછી બન્ને એ ફિલ્મ "એક નજર"માં સાથે કામ કર્યું. આ ફિલ્મની સાથે જ બન્નેની પ્રેમ સ્ટોરી શરૂ થઈ ગઈ હતી. ફિલ્મ જંજીરના સમયે બન્નેની પ્રેમ સ્ટોરીમાં એક મોટું ટ્વિસ્ટ આવ્યું. બન્નેના કૉમન ફ્રેંડએ કહ્યું કે જો આ ફિલ્મ હિટથી તો અમે બધા સાથે લંડન ફરવા ચાલીશ જ્યારે અમિતાભના પિતા હરિવંશ રાય બચ્ચનને આ વાત ખબર પડી તો તેને બન્નેને સાથે મોકલવાથી ના પાડી દીધી. તેમનો કહેવું હતું કે અમિતાભ વગર લગ્ન કોઈ પણ છોકરીની સાથે બહાર ફરવા નહી જઈશ. ત્યારે અમિતાભએ જયાને લગ્ન માટે પ્રપોજ કરવા વિશે વિચાર્યું.

અમિતાભના પ્રપોજ કર્યા પછી જયાને તેને હા બોલવામાં મોડું ન કર્યું. બન્ને પરિવારએ પણ આ સંબંધને મંજૂરી આપી. પછી 3 જૂન 1973માં બન્ને લગ્નના બંધનમાં બંધાઈ ગયા. લગ્ન વાળા દિવસે બન્ને લંડન ફરવા માટે ગયા. આ લગ્નમાં અમિતાભ અને જયાના કેટલાક સંબંધી અને મિત્રજ શામેલ થયા હતા. લગ્ન ખૂબજ સરળ અંદાજમાં થયા હતા.
