ભાદરવી પૂનમ સાથે જ શ્રાદ્ધપક્ષનો પ્રારંભ થઇ જશે. હિંદુ ધર્મમાં શ્રાદ્ધપક્ષના 16 દિવસ દરમિયાન માંગલિક કાર્ય ટાળવામાં આવતા હોય છે. શ્રાદ્ધપક્ષ દરમિયાન કિંમતી ચીજવસ્તુની ખરીદીનું પ્રમાણ ઘટી જતા હોય છે તેમજ જમીન-મકાનના સોદા ઉપર પણ સામાન્ય રીતે ટાળવામાં આવે છે.

ઘણી વાર મૃત્યુતિથિ અને મહિનો બંનેનો ખ્યાલ ન હોય તો મહા અથવા માગસર અમાસના દિવસે શ્રાદ્ધ કરવું જોઇએ. ઘણીવાર આકસ્મિક મૃત્યુને કારણે નિશ્ચિત મૃત્યુતિથિ વિષે અજાણ હોવ તો મૃત્યુની બાતમી મળી તે દિવસે સ્વર્ગસ્થ સ્વજનનું શ્રાદ્ધ કરી શકાય છે. શાસ્ત્રવિદેના મતે ઘરમાં જો શ્રાદ્ધ કરવામાં આવે તો તીર્થની

તુલનામાં આઠગણું પુણ્ય પ્રાપ્ત થતું હોય છે.

શ્રાદ્ધ દરમિયાન સ્વચ્છ વાસણ-વસ્ત્રોનો ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવે તે ખૂબ જ જરૂરી છે. શ્રાદ્ધમાં પિતરોને નૈવેધ ધરાવીને તેમને સંતુષ્ટ કરવા માટે મિષ્ટાન તરીકે ચોખાની ખીર બનાવવામાં આવે છે. ખીરમાં ઉપયોગ લેવામાં આવેલા ઘટકોમાં શાકર મધુર રસની દર્શક, દૂધ ચૈતન્યનો સ્ત્રોત તેમજ ચોખા સર્વસમાવેશક તરીકે

વાયુમંડળ શુદ્ધ થઇને પિતરોને શ્રાદ્ધસ્થાને પ્રવેશ કરવામાં સરળતા રહે તેના માટે શ્રાદ્ધમાં ભાંગરો-તુલસીનો ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવતો હોય છે.

આવો આપણે અહીં કઇ તિથિનું શ્રાદ્ધ ક્યારે કરવું તે બાબત વિગતે જોઇએ. હા એક વાત વિશેષ અહીં કહું કે શ્રાદ્ધની ક્રિયા બપોરના 12-૦૦થી 1.15 વાગ્યા સુધીમાં કરવાથી તેનું શ્રેષ્ઠ ફળ જે તે જીવને પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે.
