પ્રાચીન માન્યતા છે કે શનિ દેવની કૃપા મેળવા માટે દરેક શનિવારે તેલ ચઢાવું જોઈએ. જે લોકો આવું કરે છે એને સાઢેસાતી અને ઢૈય્યામાં પણ શનિની કૃપા મળે છે. શનિ દેવને તેલ શું કારણે ચઢાય છે એના માટે ગ્રંથોમાં કથાઓ મળી છે.
કથા મુજબ , રામાયણ કાળમાં એક સમય શનિ દેવને એમના બળ અને પરાક્ર્મ પર ઘમંડ થઈ રહ્યા હતા. તે કાળમાં ભગવાન હનુમાનના બળ અને પરાક્ર્મની કીર્તિ ચારે દિશાઓમાં ફેલાયલી હતી. જ્યારે શનિ દેવને ભગવાન હનુમાનના સંબંધમાં જાણકારી મળી તો શનિ દેવ ભગવાન હનુમાનથી યુદ્ધ કરવા માટે નિકળી ગયા.
એક શાંત સ્થાન પર હનુમાનજી એમના સ્વામી શ્રીરામની ભક્તિમાં મગ્ન બેસ્યા હતા , ત્યારે ત્યાં શનિદેવ આવ્યા અને હનુમાનને યુદ્ધ માટે લલકાર્યા. યુદ્ધની લલકાઅર સાંભળી ભગવાન હનુમાને શનિદેવમે સમઝાવાના પ્રયાસ કર્યા પણ એ નથી માન્યા. અંતે ભગવાન હનુમાન યુદ્ધ માટે તૈયાર થઈ ગયા બન્ને વચ્ચે યુદ્ધ થયું . યુદ્ધમાં ભગવાન હનુમાને શનિદેવમે હરાવી દીધા.
યુદ્ધમાં ભગવાન હનુમાને કરેલા ઘાથી શનિદેવને આખા શરીરમાં ભયંકર પીડા થવા લાગી. આ પીડાને દૂર કરવા માટે ભગવાન હનુમાનને શનિદેવને તેલ આપ્યા. આ તેલ લગાડતા જ શનિદેવની બધી પીડા દૂર થઈ ગઈ. ત્યારથી જ શનિદેવને તેલ ચઢાવવાની પરંપરા શરૂ થઈ. શનિદેવ પર જે માણસ તેલ ચઢાવે છે એના જીવનની બધી પરેશાનીઓ દૂર થઈ જાય છે અને ધનના અભાવ ખત્મ થઈ જાય છે.

બીજી કથા
તે પ્રસંગે એક કથા મશહૂર છે. અહંકારી રાવણએ બધા ગ્રહને કેસી બનાવી લીધું હતું. જેમાં શનિદેવ પણ શામેલ હતા. શનિદેવને રાવણે તેમના બંદીગૃહમાં ઉલ્ટો લટકાવી રાખયું હતું.
જ્યારે હનુમનાજી ભગવાન રામના દૂર બનીને લંકા પહોંચ્યા તો રાવણે તેમની પૂછડીમાં આગ લગાવી દીધી હતી. ક્રોધથી હનુમાનજીએ બધી લંકાને સળગાવી નાખ્યું. લંકા બળી તો પરિણામે બધા ગ્રહ આજાદ થઈ ગયા. શનિદેવ પણ મુક્ત થઈ ગયા પણ ઉલ્ટો લટક્યું હોવાના કારણે તેમના શરીરમાં ભયંકર દુખાવો થવા લાગ્યું.
ત્યારે હનુમાનજીએ તેમની સહાયતા માટે તેના શરીર પર માલિશ માટે તેલ દીધું જેનાથી તેમની બધી પીડા દૂર થઈ ગઈ. ત્યારે શનિદેવએ કહ્યું કે જે પણ ભક્ત તેમને તેલ ચઢાવશે તેની બધી પીડા એ દૂર કરશે.
તો શનિદેવને તેલ ચઢાવવા પાછળ આ કારણ છે. જો તમે પણ કોઈ સમસ્યાથી પરેશાન છો તો શનિવારે શનિજીને તેલ અર્પિ કરવું અને તમારી સમસ્યાથી મુક્તિ મેળવો.
