મુખ્યમંત્રી વિજય રૂપાણી અને વન અને પર્યાવરણ મંત્રી ગણપતસિંહ વસાવાએ સમગ્ર "ઇન્ડિયા પેવેલિયન" પ્રદર્શનની મુલાકાત લઈને વિવિધ સ્ટોલ નિહાળ્યા હતા. આ પેવેલિયનમાં દેશભરમાં કાર્યરત સરકારી અને બિનસરકારીએજન્સીઓ દ્વારા આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય આગેવાનોની સમક્ષ તેમના કાર્યોનેડિજિટલપ્રદર્શનના સ્વરૂપમાં રજૂ કરાયા છે. ઈન્ડિયાપેવેલિયન- સીએમએસસીઓપીમાં 6 દિવસ સુધીમાં કુલ ૧૩ મુખ્ય ઇવેન્ટ યોજાઈ હતી. જેમાં કેન્દ્ર અને રાજ્ય સરકારના વિભાગો સહિત ૩૧ એજન્સીઓ દ્વારા કન્વેન્શન ઓફ માઇગ્રેટરીસ્પિસિસ પર કુલ ૨૮ જેટલા સેમિનારો યોજવામાં આવ્યા હતા. ભારત સરકાર ડિજિટલ રીતે ''ભારતની નૈસર્ગિક માળખાગત પ્રણાલી' અંગે ડિજિટલ પ્રદર્શનનું નિદર્શન કરવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે.
કેવું લાગે તમને કે જ્યારે કોઈ કહે કે તેમનો શોખ કે તેમનો વ્યવસાય વ્હેલ શાર્ક માછલીને જીપીએસ ટેગ લગાવવાનું છે ? ચોંકી ન જશો ! આવી જ એક વ્યક્તિનો ભેટો "ઇન્ડિયા પેવેલિયન" ખાતે વાઈલ્ડ લાઈફ ટ્રસ્ટ ઓફ ઇન્ડિયાના સ્ટોલ પર થઈ ગયો હતો. એ વ્યક્તિ એટલે ચરણ કુમાર, જે વ્યવસાયે મરીન બાયોલોજીસ્ટ (સમુદ્ર જીવ વિજ્ઞાની) છે. તેમણે અત્યાર સુધીમાં કુલ ૮ વ્હેલ શાર્કને જીપીએસ ટેગ લગાવ્યા છે. માછીમારોની જાળમાં ફસાયેલા ૫ જેટલા બેબી વ્હેલ શાર્કને રેસ્ક્યૂ કરીને સમુદ્રમાં આઝાદ કરીને ખુબ જ મોટું યોગદાન આપેલું છે.
વિશ્વભરના મહાસાગરો અને દરિયામાં જોવા મળતી હમ્પબેક વ્હેલ બાલીન વ્હેલની એક જાણીતી પ્રજાતિ છે, જે વિશ્વની મોટી પ્રજાતિઓ પૈકીની એક છે. લાંબી પાંખો, વિશાળ છાતી અનેઅણિયાળી માથું વહેલના શરીરને એક વિશિષ્ટ આકાર આપે છે. તે ખરબચડી સપાટી તથા તરવાની વિશિષ્ટ વર્તણૂકો માટે જાણીતી છે. પુખ્ત વયનીવ્હેલની લંબાઈ 12-16 મીટર (39–52 ફૂટ) અને વજન 25-30 મેટ્રિકટન જેટલું હોય છે.
હમ્પબેક વ્હેલ સામાન્ય રીતે દર વર્ષે 25,000 કિમી (16,000 માઇલ) સુધી સ્થળાંતર કરે છે. વ્હેલ માછલી ઉષ્ણકટિબંધીય અથવા સમસિતોષ્ણ કટિબંધીય વિસ્તારોના પાણીમાં પોતાના બચ્ચાને જન્મ આપે છે, તથા ધ્રુવીય વિસ્તારના ઠંડા પાણીમાં બેબી વ્હેલ શાર્કને ફીડીંગ કરાવે છે. તેમના આહારમાં મોટાભાગે ક્રિલ અને નાની માછલીઓ હોય છે. જયારે ભોજન મળે ત્યારે ભોજન કરે છે અન્યથા ઉપવાસ કરે છે. તે દરમ્યાન શરીરમાં રહેલી ચરબીનો ઉપયોગ કરીને જીવે છે. અન્ય વ્હેલની જેમ હમ્પબેક વ્હેલનો ઉદ્યોગો માટે મોટા પ્રમાણમાં શિકાર થતો હતો.
માનવીના અવિચારી અને બેફામપણાને લીધે કરવામાં આવતા વહેલના શિકારને કારણે તેઓ લુપ્ત થવાની અણી પર આવી ગઈ હતી. વર્ષ 1966 પહેલાં તેની વસ્તી અંદાજિત 90% જેટલી ઘટી ગઈ હતી. વિશ્વભરમાં શિકાર ઉપરાંત જ્યારે ફિશિંગ ગિયરમાં ફસાવાથી, વહાણો સાથે અથડામણ અને ધ્વનિ પ્રદૂષણના કારણે આવી પ્રજાતિઓના લુપ્ત થવાનાકારણો જવાબદાર છે.
હિંદ મહાસાગરમાં કુદરતી રીતે બનેલા વ્હેલ અભયારણ્યમાં વ્હેલની ઘણી પ્રજાતિઓનું ઘર છે. વ્હેલ શાર્ક એક લુપ્તપ્રાય પ્રજાતિ છે, અને જે સૌથી મોટી કરોડરજ્જુ ધરાવતી વ્હેલની સૌથી મોટી પ્રજાતિ છે. જે સૌથી મોટી કરોડરજ્જુ ધરાવતી વ્હેલની જાતિની એકમાત્ર સભ્ય છે, હિંદ મહાસાગરના ગરમ સમશિતોષ્ણ વિસ્તારમાં તથા ગુજરાતમાં કચ્છનાઅખાતમાંમરીન નેશનલ પાર્કની આસપાસ તે પોતાનો વસવાટ ધરાવે છે. ગુજરાતથી લઈને મહારાષ્ટ્ર, ગોવા, કર્ણાટક, કેરળ, તામિલનાડુ, આંધ્રપ્રદેશ સહિતના રાજ્યોમાં જોવા મળે છે, જ્યારે બંગાળની ખાડીમાં તેના અસ્તિત્વના પુરાવાઓ મળી આવ્યા છે. જે પૈકી ગુજરાતમાં માંગરોળ, વેરાવળ, સુત્રાપાડા અને ધામળેજના દરિયા કિનારાઓના નજીકના વિસ્તારોમાં વ્હેલ શાર્ક જોવા મળે છે.
ગુજરાતના લોકો શાર્ક વ્હેલ માછલીને પોતાની દીકરી ગણે છે જે પોતાના બચ્ચાંને જન્મ આપવા માટે ગુજરાતના કિનારે આવે છે. ગુજરાત રાજ્યનું વન વિભાગ વ્હેલ શાર્કના સંરક્ષણ અને સંવર્ધન માટે કટિબદ્ધ છે આમાં વાઇલ્ડ લાઈફ ટ્રસ્ટ ઓફ ઈન્ડિયા, ટાટા કેમિકલ, પૂજ્ય મોરારી બાપુ સહિતની સામાજિક સંસ્થા, ધાર્મિક વ્યક્તિઓના સહયોગ અને સ્થાનિક લોકોનો સહયોગ મહત્વનો ભાગ ભજવી રહ્યો છે
મુખ્ય વન સંરક્ષક અને વન દળ ગુજરાત રાજ્યના વડા ડી. કે.શર્માએ જણાવ્યું હતું કે, વિશ્વની લુપ્ત થતી પ્રજાતિમાં આવતી વહેલ શાર્ક દર વર્ષે ગુજરાતનાં દરિયા કિનારે આવે છે. ૨૦૦૧ બાદ ભારતમાં વાઇલ્ડ લાઈફ પ્રોટેક્શન એક્ટના સિડ્યુલ ૧ મી આનો સમાવેશ કરવામાં આવ્યો છે અને મહત્તમ રક્ષણ આપવામાં આવ્યું છે. રાજ્ય સરકારની કમ્પેન્સેસન સ્કીમ છે જે અંતર્ગત માછીમારોની જાળમાં જ્યારે આવી વિશાળ માછલી ફસાઈ જાય તો તેને બચાવવા માટે જાળ કાપી નાખવી પડે છે. જો આ જાળ કાપવામાં આવે તો માછીમારોને મોટું નુકશાન થાય છે જેની ભરપાઈ કરવા માટે રાજ્ય સરકાર ૨૫૦૦૦ રૂ. જેટલી રકમ ચૂકવે છે. જ્યારથી આ સ્કીમ ચાલુ થઈ છે ત્યારથી લઈને અત્યાર સુધીમાં કુલ ૭૮૧ શાર્ક વ્હેલને બચાવવામાં આવી છે.
વાઈલ્ડ લાઈફ ટ્રસ્ટ ઓફ ઇન્ડિયામાં મરીન બાયોલોજીસ્ટ (સમુદ્રી જીવવિજ્ઞાની) તરીકે ફરજ બજાવી રહેલા શરણ કુમારે જણાવ્યું હતું કે, હાલમાં હું ગુજરાતના દરિયાકાંઠાના વિસ્તારોમાં વર્ષ 2016 થી વ્હેલ શાર્કના સંરક્ષણ માટે કામ કરી રહ્યો છું. લોકોમાં જમીન પર દેખાતા વન્ય જીવો અને પક્ષીઓ અંગે જાગૃતતા પ્રવર્તે છે, પરંતુ દરિયાઈ જીવોનું પણ એક ક્ષેત્ર છે કે જેમાં જાગૃતતાની તાતી જરૂર સમગ્ર દેશ અને વિશ્વભરમાં છે.
ગુજરાતના દરિયાકાંઠા પર વર્ષ 2001 પહેલા વ્હેલ શાર્કનો શિકાર કરવામાં આવતો હતો, પરંતુ દરિયાઇ નૈસર્ગિક પધ્ધતિની પ્રથમ પ્રજાતિના શેડ્યૂલ લિસ્ટમાં વ્હેલ શાર્કનો સમાવેશ કરવામાં આવતા ગુજરાત સરકારના વનવિભાગ, વાઈલ્ડ લાઈફ ટ્રસ્ટ ઓફ ઇન્ડિયા અને ટાટા કેમિકલના સહિયારા પ્રયાસોના ભાગરૂપે વિશ્વભરમાંથી અહીં પોતાના બચ્ચાઓને જન્મ આપવા તથા ફીડીંગ કરાવવા માટે ગુજરાતના દરિયા કાંઠે આવતી વ્હેલ શાર્કનું સુપેરે સંરક્ષણ અને સંવર્ધન કરવામાં આવે છે.
અત્રે ઉલ્લેખનીય છે કે, વર્ષ ૨૦૧૧ થી લઈને ૨૦૨૦ સુધીમાં કુલ ૦૮ વ્હેલશાર્કને બચાવવાની સાથે જીપીએસ ટેગિંગ કરવામાં આવ્યું છે. જે અંતર્ગત વર્ષ ૨૦૧૩ માં ૧ નર વ્હેલ શાર્કને બચાવવામાં આવ્યો હતો, જેણે 41 દિવસમાં ૨૦૦ કિમીનું અંતર કાપ્યું હતું. વર્ષ ૨૦૧૩ માં ૧ માદા વ્હેલ શાર્કને બચાવવામાં આવી હતી, જેણે ૦૭ દિવસમાં ૨૮૭ કિમીનું અંતર કાપ્યું હતું. વર્ષ ૨૦૧૫ દરમ્યાન કુલ ત્રણ વ્હેલ શાર્કને બચાવવામાં આવી હતી. ૨ માદા અને ૧ નર વ્હેલ શાર્કનો સમાવેશ થાય છે.
જે પૈકી નર વ્હેલ શાર્કે ૮૦૦ કિમીનું મહત્તમ અંતર કાપ્યું હતું, જ્યારે વર્ષ ૨૦૧૬ માં બચાવાયેલી ૨ માદા વ્હેલ શાર્ક પૈકી એક વ્હેલ શાર્કે ૬૦૦૦ કિમી કરતાં વધુનું અંતર કાપીને માલદીવ થઈને છેક સોમાલિયાના દરિયા કિનારા સુધીનું અંતર કાપ્યું હતું. જ્યારે વર્ષ ૨૦૧૭ માં બચાવાયેલ એક નર વહેલ શાર્ક દ્વારા ૧૩૫ દિવસમાં ૨૦૦૦ કિમી કરતાં વધુનું અંતર કાપીને ઓમાનના દરિયા કિનારા સુધી જઈને પરત આવી હતી.
ઉપરોક્ત માહિતી વ્હેલ શાર્ક પર લગવાયેલા જીપીએસટેગના કારણે આસાનીથી મળી આવે છે. જે માટે બનાવવામાં આવેલી એપ્લિકેશનનું નામ “VhaliWhatcher” રાખવામાં આવ્યું છે, જેના થકી વ્હેલશાર્કનું જીવંત લોકેશન આસાનીથી મળી આવે છે. બેબી વ્હેલ શાર્કનું રેસ્ક્યુ કરીને વિશ્વની જળ અને જીવ સંસ્કૃતિનું સંરક્ષણ અને સંવર્ધન કરીને પ્રકૃતિને જાળવી રાખવામાં વૈશ્વિક કક્ષાએ ગુજરાત સરકાર ખુબ જ મોટું યોગદાન આપ્યું છે.
