World River Day
World River Day ગુજરાતમાં નાની મોટી કુલ મળીને 185 નદીઓ છે અને તેને ત્રણ વિભાગમાં વહેંચી શકાય છે. 1) અરવલ્લી પર્વતમાળાની નદીઓ
2) સાબરમતી અને મહી નદીઓ
3) દક્ષિણમાં તાપી અને નર્મદા નદીઓ
(1) અરવલ્લીની પર્વતમાળાની નદીઓ :
બનાસ, સરસ્વતી અને રૂપેણ આ ત્રણેય કુવારીકાઓ છે જે કચ્છના નાના રણમાં જઈને સમાઈ જાય છે. રૂપેણ નદી ટૂંગા પર્વતમાંથી નીકળીને સાબરકાંઠા અને મહેસાણા જીલ્લામાં વહે છે. સરસ્વતી મહીકાંઠાની ટેકરીઓમાંથી નીકળે છે. તે બનાસકાંઠા અને મહેસાણામાં થઈને વહે છે. આ નદીની લંબાઈ 150 કિ.મી. છે. બનાસ નદી ઉદેપુરની ટેકરીઓમાંથી નીકળે છે. તેની લંબાઈ 270 કિ.મી. છે.

(2) સાબરમતી અને મહી નદીઓ :
સાબરમતી અરવલ્લીની ટેકરીઓમાંથી નીકળે છે. તે સાબરકાંઠા અને ખેડા જીલ્લામાં થઈને વહે છે. તે 300 કિ.મી. લાંબી છે. સાબરમતી નદીને ખારી, ભોગાવો, શેઢી, માઝમ, ચાંધેરી, મેશ્વો, વાત્રક મળે છે. વેકેરીયા પાસેથી તેને હાથમતી મળે છે અને તે પણ સાબરમતી તરીકે ઓળખાય છે.
મહી નદી મધ્ય ગુજરાતની નર્મદા અને તાપી બાદ ત્રીજા નંબરની મોટી નદી છે. આ નદી વિંધ્યના પર્વતમાં મેહદ સરોવરમાંથી અંઝેરા નજીકથી નીકળે છે. આ નદી 500 કિ.મી. જેટલી લાંબી છે.
(3) દક્ષિણમાં તાપી અને નર્મદા નદીઓ:
મધ્યપ્રદેશના બિલાસપુર જીલ્લામાંના વિધ્યં પર્વતમાંથી અમર કંટક નામના ડુંગરમાંથી નીકળે છે. ગુજરાતની સૌથી મોટી નર્મદાની લંબાઈ 1280 છે. આ હાફેશ્વર પાસે ગુજરાતમાં પ્રવેશ કરે છે. આ મધ્યપ્રદેશ, ગુજરાત અને મહારાષ્ટ્રમાં થઈને વહેતી હોવાથી સહિયારી નદી છે. ગુજરાતની અંદર આનો પટ 150 કિ.મી. જેટલો છે. નર્મદા નદી પર નવાગામ પાસે નર્મદા યોજના વિકસાવવામાં આવેલ છે. આ દેશની સૌથી મોટી બહુહેતુક યોજના છે. નર્મદા નદીને કિનારે કબીરવડ જેવા બેટ અને શુક્લતીર્થ જેવા ધાર્મિક સ્થળો પણ વિકસેલા છે.
નર્મદા બાદ તાપી ગુજરાતની બીજી સૌથી મોટી નદી છે. તે પણ મધ્યપ્રદેશમાંથી નીકળે છે. તેની કુલ લંબાઈ 752 કિ.મી. છે. તાપી હરણફાણ નામના સ્થળેથી ગુજરાતમાં પ્રવેશે છે. આ નદીપર કાંકરાપાર અને ઉકાઈ પાસે બંધ બાંધીને સિંચાઈ કરવામાં આવે છે.
દક્ષિણ ગુજરાતની અન્ય નદીઓમાં ઢાંઢર, વિશ્વામિત્રી, કીમ, પૂર્ણા, અંબિકા, બંકી, ઔરંગા, પાર, કોલક, મીંઢોળા અને દમણગંગાને ગણાવી શકાય છે. દમણગંગા ગુજરાતની દક્ષિણમાં આવેલી સૌથી મોટી નદી છે.
