ભારતમાં રાવણ વિષે પ્રવર્તતી માન્યનતા અને રામાયણમાં રાવણ વિષે જે કાંઇ કહેવાયું છે તેનાં કરતાં કેટલીયે વિસ્મ યજનક વાતો શ્રીલંકામાં તાજેતરમાં પ્રગટ થયેલા ‘રાવણ, કિંગ ઓફ લંકા' નામના ગ્રન્થેમાં દર્શાવાઇ છે. એમાંથી જે એક સૌથી ચોંકાવનારી વાત વિભીષણે જો દગો ન દીધો હોત અને યુધ્ધ ની ગુપ્ત હકીકતો દુશ્મનનને જણાવી દીધી ન હોય તો રામ રાવણને પરાજિત ન કરી શક્યાન હતો !
આ ગ્રન્થમાં એવું જણાવાયું છે કે રાવણ મહાન શાસનકર્તા હતો અને તેણે પોતાની વિશિષ્ટહ આવડત, કુનેહ વડા પ્રચીન શ્રીલંકા અર્થાત લંકાનગરી)ના વૈભવી અને વિરાટ સામ્રાજય ઉપર રાજ કર્યુ હતું. અહેવાલ પ્રમાણે રામાયણના આ વિલન વિષે લખાયેલા આ પુસ્તેકમાં તેના લેખક મિરાન્ડોુ ઓબેસોકરોએ જણાવ્યુંે છે કે, ૧૭૪ પાનાનાં આ પુસ્તાકમાં વર્ણવાયેલ બાબતો એક વખતના પાનવૃક્ષના પાંદડાં ઉપર લખાતાં લખાણોના આધારે તથા પુરાતત્વીયય અવશેષોના આધારે આકલનબધ્ધન કરવામાં આવી છે. અને પુરાવા રૂપ પ્રાચીન લખાણોની પણ આમાં મહત્વની ભુમીકા છે.
આ પુસ્તંક એવું દર્શાર્વે છે કે, રાવણનું મહારાજય દુરદુરના પ્રદેશો સુધી વિસ્તારેલું હતું એવું અગાધ સંશોધન દ્વારા જાણી શકાયું હતું. એ વિરાટ નગરીમાં અત્યાુરનાં નુવારા ઇલીયા, બદુલીયા, પોળોનારુવા, અનુરાધાપુરા, કેન્ડીટ, મોનારાગુડા, પાતાળે અને ચિલોનો સમાવેશ થયો હતો.
રાવણ સભ્યણતા (સિવિલાઇઝેશન) અસાધારણ આગળ પડધી અને ઉચ્ચ તમ સભ્યનતા તરીકે પંકાઇ હતી. લંકાનગરીને કેન્દ્રીશત રહીને આ સભ્યંતા અને વૈભવ-વિકાસ દુરદુરના પ્રદેશો સુધી પથરાયા હતા. આ જાહોજલાલી અને સંશોધનોની ખાણનો સંપુર્ણ વિનાશ એ વખતના આર્યાવતના મોભી સમા રામ દ્વારા થયો હતો.

રાવણનું નિવાસસ્થા.ન સિગિરીયામાં હતું. જે હાલના કોલંબોથી આશરે ૧૭૦ કી.મી.ના અંતરે હતું અને યુનેસ્કોરએ હાલમાં એને હેરીટેજ તરીકે પ્રસ્થાહપીત કર્યુ છે. પુસ્તદક દર્શાવે છેકે યક્ષ વંશમાં રાવણ અત્યંકત આગળ પડતા મહારથીઓ તેમજ બુધ્ધિ વાન લોકોની હરોળનો મનાતો હતો. રાવણની જબરી પ્રતિભા અને પરાક્રમ પ્રધાનતાને કારણે તેના નામને કેટલીક જગ્યાોઓ સાથે જોડવામાં આવ્યુંત હતું.
બદુલા જીલ્લામાં રાવણ ઇલ્લા, અને રાવણકેઇવ (રાવણ ગુફા), ત્રિન્હોતમાલીમાં રાવણ કોટ્ટે, રત્નાપુરામાં રાવણ કાંડા, તેમજ અન્યન સ્થાેનો એમાં મોખરે છે. એક તબક્કે લંકા રાવણ દેશના નામે ઓળખાતી હતી એમ આ પુસ્તરક દર્શાવે છે. કાન્ડાયાન જીલ્લામાં બે ગામો તેના નામ સાથે જોડાયેલા છે, જે ઉડુરાવણ અને અતિરાવણ તરીકે ઓળખાય છે.

આ પુસ્ત્કમાં એમ પણ જણાવાયું છે કે, રાવણયુગનાં અવશેષો, હાપુરામે, બદુલા, બંદરાવેળા, વેળીમાળા, યુવા (કે ઉવા) પાસારા, સોરાનાટોટા, વિયામુવા, મહિયનગાણા, વગેરે ઠેકાણે હજુપણ પથરાયેલા છે અને તે જેમનાતેમ અકબંધ છે એને કોઇ રીતે બદલાવાયા નથી. રાવણ-તવારિખને એ પુષ્ટિ આપે છે.
પુસ્તેક દર્શાવે છે કે, રાવણે અનુરાધાપુર ખાતે તેના માબાપાની સ્મૃિતિમાં એક મંદિર બાંધ્યું હતું. કોલંબોની ઉત્તરે બંધાયેલુ આ મંદિર પોર્ટુગ્ીઝોએ તોડી નાખ્યું હોવાનું જણાવાય છે.
આ પુસ્તરક દર્શાવે છે કે, આ મહાબુદ્ધિશાળી અને મહાન શિવભકત રાવણનું પતન તેણે રામના ધર્મપત્નીઉ સીતાનું અપહરણ કરવાને કારણે થયું હતું એ તેનું ગેરકૃત્યઅ હતું અને અભિમાન -અહંકારના બેકાબુ ઉફાણાને કારણે તે પતિત બન્યોુ હતો એટલું જ નહિ પણ પ્રજામાં અપ્રિય બન્યો હતો. તેની ધર્મપત્નીા મંદોદરીએ સીતાના અપહરણ બાદ તેના પતનની આગાહી કરી હતી.
આ પુસ્તીકમાં રામને પ્રમાણિક અને પૂરેપૂરા ભદ્રપુરૂષ તરીકે ઓળખાવાયા છે અને અભિમાન વગરના ગણાવાયા છે. પુસ્ત કમાં એવું પણ દર્શાવાયું છે કે, રામની પાસે રાવણની જેમ વિમાન નહોતું કે એમની પાસે રાવણ જેટલો વૈભવ કે જાહોજલાલી નહોતી. રાવણ પાસે તો અમાપ સમૃદ્ધિ હતી, યુદ્ધની શકિત હતી અને જબરી વિદ્યા હતી.

રામની પાસે ‘સત્ય નો વિજય થાય જ' એવી ‘શ્રદ્ધા સિવાય એમની પાસે બીજું કશું જ નહોતું. એમની ઇચછાશકિત રાવણ કરતાં થોડી ચઢીયાતી હતી કારણ કે એમાં અભિમાનની વાંટ સુદ્ધાં નહોતી અને એમનાં હૃદય-મનમાં શત્રુ પ્રતયે લેશમાત્ર ધિક્કાર નહતો. એમનું યુદ્ધ કર્તવ્યમપાલન માટે જ હતું અને એમની મરજીની વિરૂદ્ધ હતું.'
રાવણની અન્યજ દશ શહેરો ઉપર આણ હતી રામ અયોધ્યાદના રાજા તરીકે ઘોષિત થયા હતાં છતાં વનવાસી રહ્યા હતાં. પુસ્ત કમાં આ બધું દર્શાવ્યું હોવા છતાં રાવણને એમાં મહાન તેમજ માનવંતો મહાપુરૂષ દર્શાવાયો છે. રાણવ યોદ્ધાઓમાં શ્રેષ્ઠ હતો. તબીબી બાબતોનો નિષ્ણાં ત હતો. જયોતિષશાષામાં અન્ય તમામ જયોતિષીઓથી ચઢિયાતો હતો, અર્યોત જયોતિષસ્વા્મી અને ગ્રહોનો સ્વાંમી હતો.
પુસ્તયક દર્શાવે છે કે, તે સર્વોત્તમ રાજનીતિસ અને મકામુત્સ્દ્રી હતો તે સંગીતક્ષેત્રે સર્વાંગ સંપન્નુ વિશારદ હતો. આ પુસ્તાકમાં રાવણને બુદ્ધે પ્રબોધેલા સિદ્ધાંતો અને આદર્શોનો ચુસ્તહ હિમાયતી દર્શાવાયો છે. તેણે પોતાના દેશની સુરક્ષા માટે ભૂલભૂલામણીભરી ભૂગર્ભ જળ-ગુફાઓ અને જળ બુગદાઓ બનાવ્યાસ હતાં. તેણે ‘અગ્નિતંત્ર'ની શોધ કરી હતી એના વડે તે અગ્નિની જવાળા વચ્ચેશ ચાલી શકતો હતો તે બાળરોગોનો નિષ્ણા ત હતો તે ચારિત્ર્યવાન તપસ્વીૂ અને ખૂંખાર યોદ્ધો હતો એમ પુસ્તોક દર્શાવે છે. આ પુસ્તચક શ્રીલંકામાં પ્રકાશિત થયું છે.
