लॉकडाउन के बाद बदली है रंगकर्म की चुनौतियां
'जब आपको अचानक कोई पुरस्कार मिलता है तो अचरज होता है। मुझे भी हुआ! ऐसा इसलिए भी हुआ क्योंकि मुझसे पहले हबीब तनवीर, शंभु मित्रा, इब्राहिम अलकाजी, ब.व.कारंत, रतन थियम,कोवलम नारायण पणिकर, देवराज अंकुर, बंसी कौल जैसे रंग दिग्गजों को यह सम्मान मिला है। इस लिस्ट में मुझे अपना नाम देखकर लगा ..ओह माय गॉड !'
बढ़ी मेरी ज़िम्मेदारी,गंभीरता से काम करने का वक्त : यह बात राष्ट्रीय नाट्य विद्यालय के पूर्व निदेशक और प्रख्यात रंगकर्म कलाकार पद्मश्री प्रो.वामन केंद्रे ने कही। उन्हें हाल ही में मध्यप्रदेश सरकार के संस्कृति विभाग द्वारा कालिदास सम्मान दिए जाने की घोषणा हुई है। इस प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार की घोषणा पर पूछे गए सवाल पर वे अपनी पहली प्रतिक्रिया दे रहे थे।
वामन जी ने कहा, ' 'इस पुरस्कार की घोषणा पर मुझे लगा कि हां मेरा काम सही दिशा में जा रहा है और मुझे अपना काम करते रहना चाहिए। यह बात भी महसूस भी हुई कि मेरी ज़िम्मेदारी अब और भी बढ़ गई है। मुझे लगा कि अब मेरे और भी गंभीरता से काम करने का वक्त आ गया है।'
प्रो. वामन केंद्रे को रंगमंच के क्षेत्र में उनके विविध योगदान के लिए पहले भी कई पुरस्कारों से नवाज़ा गया है।
इनमें भारत सरकार द्वारा उनके कला,अभिनय और रंगमंच में योगदान के लिये 2019 में पद्मश्री पुरस्कार,2017 में ब.व.कारंत पुरस्कार,रंगमंच निर्देशन के लिए राष्ट्रपति द्वारा प्रदान किया गया 2012 में संगीत नाटक अकादमी का पुरस्कार,रंगमंच कला में योगदान के लिए 2004 में पहला मनोहर सिंह स्मृति पुरस्कार के साथ ही पांच बार महाराष्ट्र सरकार राज्य का पुरस्कार भी शामिल है।
अंदर की आवाज़ सुनी, अपने विज़न पर चला: मुंबई से लेकर दिल्ली तक कई हिट नाटकों के इस निर्देशक ने कहा, इस मौके पर मैं विनम्रता से एक बात कहना चाहता हूं। मैंने हमेशा अपने अंदर की आवाज़ सुनी, अपने विज़न को लेकर चलता रहा। यह मेरा सौभाग्य है कि मैंने जैसी कल्पना की, उस तरह का काम करने में मुझे मेरी रंग-संस्थाओं और कलाकारों का हमेशा सहयोग मिला। यही वजह रही कि मैं औरों से अलग काम कर सका। मेरे नाटक इनोवेटिव रहे। दर्शकों ने पसंद किये। मेरा कोई भी ऐसा नाटक नहीं रहा जिसके सौ से ज़्यादा शोज़ नहीं हुए। 'चार दिवस प्रेमा चा' जैसे नाटक के 1400 शोज़ हुए। यह अपने आप में एक रिकॉर्ड है। आज भी इस नाटक को लोग देखना चाहते हैं।'
मेरे गुरुजनों और आलोचकों का धन्यवाद : प्रो.वामन ने कहा, 'आज मुझे अपने गुरुजनों का भी स्मरण हो रहा है। ब.व.कारंत साहब की याद आ रही है। बीएम शाह का ध्यान आ रहा है। इन दोनों दिग्गजों से कितना कुछ सीखा। मैंने हमेशा हरेक से कुछ न कुछ सीखने की कोशिश की। हर उस व्यक्ति से, जिन्होंने मुझे प्रेरित किया, मेरे काम की सराहना की या फिर आलोचना की। अपने उन दोस्तों का भी शुक्रिया जिन्होंने मुझे सही दिशा में अपना काम करते रहने के लिए प्रेरित किया। यह सब मैं इसलिए कह रहा हूं क्योंकि मेरे लिये नाटक सिर्फ मनोरंजन का विषय नहीं रहा। प्रबोधन के साथ-साथ सामाजिक ज़िम्मेदारी भी मेरे नाटकों का प्रमुख उद्देश्य रहा। मैंने ज़्यादातर उद्धेश्यपूर्ण नाटकों के लिए काम किया। हर नाटक के ज़रिए कोई ऐसी बात रखी, जिससे मनोरंजन के साथ ही कोई सामयिक संदेश भी दर्शकों तक पहुंच सके।’

नाटक 'जानेमन' में उठाई वंचितों की आवाज़ : मिसाल के लिये मेरे नाटक - 'जानेमन' को ही लीजिए। इसमें हमने किन्नरों के जीवन से जुड़े पहलुओं को राष्ट्रीय मंच पर रखने की कोशिश की। हमने उनकी आवाज़ को उठाया। हमें संतोष हुआ जब पार्लियामेंट में उनके अधिकारों की बात मान ली गई। मुझे याद है नाटक देखने के अगले दिन मुझे दिनेश ठाकुर जी ने फोन कर कहा, मैं 'जानेमन' देखकर रात भर सो नहीं सका। घर लौटते वक्त मैंने कार की विंडो खोलकर चौराहों पर खड़े किन्नरों से खुलकर बात की। (ऐसी ढेरों प्रतिक्रियाएं अलग-अलग समय पर मिलती रही।) ..तो यह एक बदलाव था, जो नाटक का ध्येय था और जो कहीं न कहीं, किसी रूप में फलीभूत हुआ। मुझे रचनात्मक संतोष मिला। मैंने हमेशा अपने नाटकों का इस तरह से निर्माण किया कि जो दर्शकों के दिलो-दिमाग़ से मिट न सके।
1984 से लगातार रंगकर्म में सक्रिय : वामन केंद्रे ने 1978 में ग्रेजुएशन के बाद औरंगाबाद के डॉ.आम्बेडकर मराठवाड़ा विश्वविद्यालय में नाटक के डिप्लोमा पाठ्यक्रम में प्रवेश लिया था और तब से ही वे रंगमंच के लिए काम करने लगे थे। 1982 में राष्ट्रीय नाट्य विद्यालय से रंगमंच कला में पोस्ट ग्रेजुएशन के बाद उन्होंने अपना पहला मराठी नाटक 'झुलवा' का निर्देशन किया।
यह नाटक उन देवदासी (जोगतिन) लड़कियों की दास्तां है जिन्हें महाराष्ट्र के कुछ हिस्सों में देवी येल्लम्मा को चढ़ाये जाने की प्रथा थी। उनका यह पहला नाटक बेजु़बानों की सशक्त आवाज़ बनकर उभरा। इसे दलित रंगमंच आंदोलन की तरह देखा गया। इसके बाद दिव्यांग बच्चों को लेकर 'नाती-गोती' और फिर किन्नरों के हालात पर 'जानेमन' या प्रथम विश्वयुद्ध के बाद के हालात पर 'गजब तेरी अदा' जैसे नाटक मंच पर लाकर रंगमंच को एक नया अर्थ दे दिया।
मोहनदास,रणागंन,मध्यम व्ययोग (तीन भाषाओं में),गधे की बारात, हिडिम्बा, टेम्प्ट मी नॉट, दूसरा सामना,लड़ी नज़रिया,एक झुंज वा-याशी, राहीले दूर घर माझे आदि उनके चर्चित नाटक रहे। हिन्दी के अलावा वामन जी ने मराठी में कोई 60 नाटकों का निर्माण और निर्देशन किया। वे मुंबई युनिवर्सिटी में थियेटर आर्ट्स के हेड भी रहे।
राष्ट्रीय नाट्य विद्यालय में 'बैक टू इंडिया' का विज़न: प्रो.वामन केंद्रे राष्ट्रीय नाट्य विद्यालय (रानावि) के निदेशक के भी रहे। रानावि में अपने प्रयासों के बारे में पूछने पर उन्होंने कहा, 'अलकाज़ी साहब के दौर में जब नाट्य विद्यालय की शुरूआत हुई थी तब यह इंस्टीट्यूशन महज़ 20 चयनित कलाकारों को रंगकर्म का प्रशिक्षण देने वाला संस्थान था। तब इस इंडस्ट्री का भी स्वरूप भी बहुत छोटा था। इसके बाद अपने-अपने समय के निदेशकों ने अपने-अपने दृष्टिकोण से इंस्टीट्यूशन को आगे बढ़ाया। मैंने इसमें 'बैक टू इंडिया' के विज़न से इसमें काम किया। संस्थान के विकेंद्रीकरण की दिशा में नये कदम उठाए। देश के कोने-कोने में विद्यालय को पहुंचाने का काम किया। इसी तरह से अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर भारतीय रंगमंच के प्रभाव को बढ़ाने की दिशा में काम किया। आदान-प्रदान को बढ़ाया। दुनिया में रंगमंच के अपने दोस्त बनाए ताकि वे हमारे नाटकों के प्रति भी जागरूक हों, हमारे महत्व,चिंतन और काम को समझें।
लॉकडाउन के बाद रंगकर्म की नई चुनौतियां: लॉकडाउन के बाद की नई परिस्थितियों में रंगकर्म की चुनौती क्या है ? यह पूछने पर वामन जी ने कहा, 'लॉक डाउन पूरी दुनिया के लिये दुर्भाग्य की बात रही। दो साल मानव समाज के दहशत में गुज़रे। परंतु इस संकट ने हमें खुद से संवाद का मौका भी दिया। लगा कि हम क्यों बेवजह दौड़ रहे थे। क्या दूसरे को दौड़ते देखकर खुदको भी दौड़ना ज़रूरी है? मन में यह सवाल उठा कि क्या निरूद्धेश्य दौड़ना ज़रूरी है ?
ऐसे ही समय बहुत कुछ नये तरीके से सीखने,करने और समझने का अवसर मिला। महसूस हुआ कि सोशल मीडिया,यू ट्यूब और वेब के इस ऑनलाइन दौर में रंगमंच को भी नई रंग-भाषा,रंग-शिल्प की ज़रूरत है। हमें कथ्य को नये तरीके से रखने की चुनौती को स्वीकार करना होगा। नई तकनीक और तौर-तरीकों को अपनाना होगा। पुराने ढर्रे पर चलना समय के अनुकूल नहीं होगा। हमें किसी भी चीज़ को वर्जित नहीं मानना चाहिए। हमें हर तकनीक और टूल्स को अपनाने की ज़रूरत है। ..एक बात और, जैसे विश्वयुद्धों के बाद के हालात पर आज भी लगातार लिखा जा रहा है, सिनेमा अपना काम कर रहा है। कोरोना संकट के समय की बहुत-सी कहानियां भी अब आने वाले समय में लगातार आती रहेंगी। उनपर भी काम होता रहेगा।
एक नये नाटक को मंच पर लाने की कोशिश: फिलहाल वे ख़ुद क्या कर रहे हैं ? प्रो.वामन केंद्रे ने बताया, 'मैं एक नया नाटक तैयार करने की कोशिश में भिड़ा हूं। मैं महाराष्ट्र में अपने मराठी दर्शकों के बीच फिर से लौटने के लिए बेचैन हूं। करीब 5-7 साल का लंबा समय बीत गया है। उनके साथ नए सिरे से जुड़ने की मेरे सामने चुनौती है। मैं एक नया और अच्छा प्रॉडक्शन करना चाहता हूं। इसके अलावा मैं अकादमिक स्तर पर भी मैं जो भी संभव हो सके, करना चाहता हूं।'
हाल ही में उनकी 'मैजिक ऑफ एक्टिंग' की ऑनलाइन क्लासेस के बारे में याद दिलाने पर आपने कहा- 'हां, यह प्रशिक्षण का एक अच्छा तरीका रहा। बहुत से कलाकार इस क्लास से जुड़े। उनके साथ रंगमंच पर अभिनय के आयामों पर बात कर मुझे भी अच्छा लगा। मैं आगे भी ऐसे प्रशिक्षण क्लासेस करते रहना चाहता हूँ।' यहां यह बताना महत्वपूर्ण है कि प्रो.वामन केंद्रे 350 से अधिक रंगकर्म से जुड़ी विभिन्न कार्यशालाओं का संचालन कर चुके हैं। इनमें अमेरिका,चीन, जर्मनी, फ्रांस,जापान,सिंगापुर और मॉरीशस की कार्यशालाएं भी शामिल हैं।
