ઇંગ્લૅન્ડમાં યોજાનારા વન-ડે ક્રિકેટ વર્લ્ડ કપ માટે ભારતીય ટીમની જાહેરાત થઈ ગઈ છે. આમ તો ઑસ્ટ્રેલિયા સામેની વન-ડે સિરીઝ બાદ મોટાં ભાગનાં નામો નક્કી જ હતાં. ચાર કે પાંચ સ્થાન માટે જ વિચારણા કરવાની હતી.
વિરાટ કોહલીએ તો ઘણા સમય અગાઉ જ કહ્યું હતું કે ઇન્ડિયન પ્રીમિયર લીગ (આઈપીએલ)ના પ્રદર્શનને ધ્યાનમાં લેવાશે નહીં. પરંતુ તેમના માટે કે પસંદગીકારો માટે આઈપીએલને નજરઅંદાજ કરવી શક્ય ન હતી અને અંતે એમ જ થયું.
ભારતીય ટીમમાં દિનેશ કાર્તિક, રવીન્દ્ર જાડેજાને સામેલ કરાયા અને રિષભ પંતને બાકાત રખાયા તે આઈપીએલના દેખાવને લઈને જ નિર્ણય લેવાયો છે તે સ્પષ્ટ જણાઈ આવે છે.
રહી વાત ગુજરાતીઓની તો આ વખતે ટીમમાં ત્રણ-ત્રણ ગુજરાતીને સામેલ કરાયા છે.
ભારતીય ક્રિકેટ બોર્ડમાં ગુજરાતનો નકશો એક નથી પરંતુ તેમાં ત્રણ ઍસોસિયેશન આવેલા છે અને જાણે બૅલેન્સ કરતા હોય તેમ ત્રણેય ઍસોસિયેશનમાંથી એક-એકની પસંદગી થઈ છે.
જોકે, આ ખેલાડીને ઍસોસિયેશન જોઈને નહીં પરંતુ તેમનાં પ્રદર્શનને ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને સ્થાન અપાયું છે. ગુજરાતમાંથી જસપ્રીત બુમરાહ, બરોડાના હાર્દિક પંડ્યા અને સૌરાષ્ટ્રના રવીન્દ્ર જાડેજા આ વખતે ઇંગ્લૅન્ડમાં યોજાનારા વર્લ્ડ કપમાં ભારતનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરશે. આમ, ગુજરાતીઓની નજર આ ત્રણ ખેલાડી પર રહેશે.
1975થી વર્લ્ડ કપ રમાય છે અને તેમાં ગુજરાતના ત્રણ ખેલાડી એકસાથે રમતા હોય તેવો કદાચ આ પ્રથમ વર્લ્ડ કપ હશે.

અગાઉ વર્લ્ડ કપમાં ગુજરાતીઓ રમ્યા હશે પરંતુ તે ગુજરાતના જ હોય તે જરૂરી ન હતું. જેમ કે અજય જાડેજા વર્લ્ડ કપમાં રમ્યા ત્યારે તે હરિયાણાનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરતા હતા. કરસન ઘાવરી મુંબઈ વતી રમીને ભારતીય ટીમમાં પસંદ થયા હતા.
આ વખતે ત્રણ ગુજજુ ક્રિકેટર વર્લ્ડ કપમાં રમવાના છે. આ સંખ્યા ચારની થઈ શકી હોત પરંતુ અક્ષર પટેલને આ વખતની ટીમમાં સામેલ કરાયા નથી.
હકીકત તો એ છે કે 2015માં રમાયેલા વર્લ્ડ કપમાં માત્ર એક જ ગુજરાતી હતા અને તે અક્ષર પટેલ હતા.
પરંતુ છેલ્લાં ચાર વર્ષમાં અક્ષર પટેલનું પર્ફૉર્મન્સ એટલી હદે નબળું પુરવાર થયું છે કે તેમને વર્લ્ડ કપ જેવી મેગા ઇવેન્ટ તો ઠીક પણ કોઈ દ્વિપક્ષીય વન-ડે કે ટી-20 સિરીઝમાં પણ ભારતીય ટીમમાં સામેલ કરાતા નથી.

ભારતીય ટીમની પસંદગીની વાત કરતા અગાઉ અક્ષર પટેલને બાકાત રખાયાની વાત કરી લઈએ.
એક ગુજરાતી તરીકે અક્ષર પટેલની તરફેણ થતી રહે તે સ્વાભાવિક છે, પરંતુ વાસ્તવિકતા એ છે કે અક્ષર પટેલ આ વખતે વર્લ્ડ કપની ટીમની રેસમાં હતા જ નહીં.
2015માં ઑસ્ટ્રેલિયા અને ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડમાં યોજાયેલા વર્લ્ડ કપમાં અક્ષર પટેલ ભારતીય ટીમમાં હતા, પરંતુ તેમને એકેય મૅચમાં તક અપાઈ ન હતી.
ત્યારબાદનાં ચાર વર્ષના ગાળામાં ભારતીય ટીમ જ્યાં દર વર્ષે 25-30 વન-ડે મૅચ રમતી રહી છે ત્યાં અક્ષર પટેલ આ ચાર વર્ષમાં માંડ 25 મૅચ રમ્યા હતા. તેમાં અક્ષરે કુલ 140 રન કર્યા હતા અને માત્ર 29 વિકેટ ખેરવી હતી.
આ જ ગાળામાં તેઓ ગુજરાત માટે રણજી ટ્રૉફી, વિજય હઝારે વન-ડે અને સૈયદ મુસ્તાક અલી ટી-20 ટૂર્નામૅન્ટ રમ્યા હતા. આ મૅચોમાં તેમનું પ્રદર્શન એટલું પ્રભાવશાળી રહ્યું નથી કે તેમના નામની વિચારણા કરી શકાય.
હા, માત્ર ફૉર્મને કારણે નહીં પરંતુ ઈજાને કારણે પણ તેણે ઘણી મૅચ ગુમાવવી પડી છે અને પ્રારંભમાં ઈજા અને ત્યારબાદ ફૉર્મ પરત નહીં મેળવી શકવાને કારણે અક્ષર પટેલને નુકસાન ભોગવવું પડ્યું.
જોકે, રાહત એ વાતની છે કે તેમની ઉંમર હજી એટલી નથી થઈ અને ભવિષ્યમાં તેઓ ફૉર્મ પરત મેળવીને ઇન્ટરનેશનલ ક્રિકેટમાં પુનરાગમન કરી શકે તેમ છે.
અક્ષર સિવાય બાકીના ત્રણ ગુજરાતી ખેલાડીઓ પાસેથી ભારતને ઘણી આશા છે. જસપ્રીત બુમરાહ માત્ર ભારતનો જ નહીં વર્લ્ડ કપનો સ્ટાર બની શકે તેમ છે.
વિશ્વમાં અત્યારે સૌથી ખતરનાક બૉલર હોય તો તે બુમરાહ છે. બુમરાહને અત્યારે કોઈ પણ ટીમનો સુકાની પોતાની ટીમમાં ઇચ્છતો હોય છે.
વન-ડે હોય કે ટી-20, અંતિમ ઑવર્સમાં બુમરાહ વધારે ખતરનાક બૉલિંગ નાખતો હોય છે. તેના યૉર્કર ઘાતક પુરવાર થતા હોય છે.
આ વર્લ્ડ કપમાં કૅપ્ટન કોહલીનું હુકમનું પત્તું કોઈ હોય તો તે રોહિત શર્મા, શિખર ધવન કે મહેન્દ્ર સિંહ ધોની નહીં પરંતુ જસપ્રીત બુમરાહ છે.
બુમરાહ ઉપરાંત હાર્દિક પંડ્યા પર સૌની નજર રહેશે. 2017માં ઇંગ્લૅન્ડમાં જ યોજાયેલી આઈસીસી ચૅમ્પિયન્સ ટ્રૉફીમાં હાર્દિક પંડ્યાએ શાનદાર ફૉર્મ દાખવ્યું હતું. હાર્દિક પંડ્યાની સરખામણી કપિલ દેવ જેવા સર્વકાલીન મહાન ઑલરાઉન્ડર સાથે થતી હતી.
જોકે, તેમની કારકિર્દીમાં વચ્ચે વચ્ચે બ્રેક આવી ગયા છે. ટીવી શૉમાં મહિલાઓ વિશે અભદ્ર કૉમેન્ટ કરવા બદલ તેને સસ્પેન્ડ કરાયા હતા અને આ મામલે હજી અંતિમ ફેંસલો આવ્યો નથી, પરંતુ તેમને વર્લ્ડ કપમાં રમવાની તક આપવામાં આવી છે.
ભારતીય બૉલિંગમાં હાર્દિક પંડ્યા અત્યંત ઉપયોગી છે. ટીમને 50 ઓવર પૂરી કરવામાં ચાર નિયમિત બૉલરો બાદ દસ ઓવર પૂરી કરવાની નોબત આવે ત્યારે હાર્દિક સૌથી વધુ ફાયદાકારક નીવડે છે.
આ ઉપરાંત બેટિંગમાં તેઓ રનરેટ વધારી શકે તેમ છે. મિડલ-ઑર્ડરમાં હાર્દિક જેવા આક્રમક બૅટ્સમૅન ભાગ્યે કોઈ ટીમ પાસે હશે.

રવીન્દ્ર જાડેજાને અચાનક જ વર્લ્ડ કપની ટિકિટ મળી ગઈ છે પરંતુ તેઓ ટીમને એક કરતાં વધુ બાબતોમાં લાભ કરાવી શકે તેમ છે.
બે મહિના અગાઉ ખુદ રવીન્દ્ર જાડેજાને પણ કલ્પના નહીં હોય કે તેમને વર્લ્ડ કપ માટેની ટીમમાં સામેલ કરાશે.
જાડેજા ઑલરાઉન્ડર છે. ઇંગ્લૅન્ડની પીચ પર 1983માં સંદીપ પાટિલ, મદનલાલ, કીર્તિ આઝાદ જેવા બૉલરોએ જે સફળતા મેળવી હતી તેવી સફળતાની જાડેજા પાસેથી અપેક્ષા રખાય છે.

ઇંગ્લૅન્ડના હવામાનમાં બપોર પછી વિકેટ આસાન બની જાય ત્યારે જાડેજાની બૉલિંગ બૅટ્સમૅનો માટે મુશ્કેલ બની શકે છે. તેમની ચુસ્ત બૉલિંગ રન બચાવી શકે છે તો તેમની સ્ફૂર્તિલી ફિલ્ડિંગ હરીફ ટીમના રનમાં કમસે કમ 30 જેટલા રનનો તફાવત લાવી શકે છે.
ટૂંકમાં, ત્રણ ગુજરાતી ખેલાડીઓ આ વખતે ઇંગ્લૅન્ડમાં ધૂમ મચાવી શકે છે. ભારતીય ટીમમાં દિનેશ કાર્તિકને સામેલ કરાયા છે.
