સંસ્કૃતમાં એક શલોક છે. "યસ્ત પૂજ્યંતે નાર્યસ્તુ તત્ર રમંતે દેવતા:" એટલે કે જ્યાં નારીની પૂજા હોય છે. ત્યાં દેવતા નિવાસ કરે છે. ભારતીય સંસ્કૃતિમાં નારીના સમ્માનમાં ખૂબ મહત્વ આપ્યું છે. પણ વર્તમાનમાં જે હાલાત જોવાય છે, તેમાં નારીના દરેક જગ્યા અપમાન જ થઈ રહ્યું છે. તેને "ભોગની વસ્તુ" સમજીને પુરૂષ માટે ઉપયોગ કરાઈ રહ્યું છે. આ ખૂબ ચિંતાજનક વાત છે. પણ અમારી સંસ્કૃતિને બનાવી રાખતા નારીના સમ્માન કેવી રીતે કરાય તેના પર વિચાર કરવું જરૂરી છે.
માતાનો હમેશા સમ્માન હોય- માં એટકે કે માતાના રૂપમાં નારી, ધરતી પર સૌથી પવિત્રતમ રૂપમાં છે. માતા એટકે જનની. માં ને ઈશ્વરથી પણ વધીને ગણાયું છે, કારણને ઈશ્વરની જન્મ આપનારી પણ નારી જ છે. મા દેવકી(કૃષ્ણ) અને માં પાર્વતી (ગણપતિ/કાર્તિકેય) ના સંદર્ભમાં અમે જોઈ શકીએ છે.
પણ બદલતા સમયના હિસાબે સંતાનથી તેમની માને મહત્વ આપવું ઓછું કરી નાખ્યું છે. આ ચિંતાજનક પહલૂ છે. બધા ધન-લિપ્સા અને સ્વાર્થમાં ડૂબી રહ્યા છે.
પણ જન્મ આપનારી મારાના રૂપમાં સમ્માન ફરજિયાત રૂપથી થવું જોઈએ. જે વર્તમાનમાં ઓછું થઈ ગયું છે. આ સવાલ આજકાલ બહુ ગંભીર થઈ રહ્યું છે. આ વિશે નવી પેઢીને વિચારવું જોઈએ.

દાવ મારી રહી છે છોકરીઓ- જો આજકાલની છોકરીઓને જોઈએ તો અમે મેળવે છે કે આજકાલની છોકરીઓ દાવ મારી રહી છે. તેને દરેક ક્ષેત્રમાં અમે આગળ વધતા જોઈ શકે છે. વિભિન્ન પરીક્ષાઓની મેરિટ લિસ્ટમાં છોકરીઓ તેજીથી આગળ વધી રહી છે. કોઈ સમય તેને નબળુ સમજાતું હતું. પણ તેને તેમની મેહનત
અને મેધાવી શક્તિથી દરેક ક્ષેત્રમાં પ્રવીણતા હાસેલ કરી છે. તેમની આ પ્રતિભાનો સમ્માન કરવું જોઈએ.
નારીનો આખો જીવન પુરૂષની સાથે સમાન રૂપથી ચાલવામાં જ પસાર થઈ જાય છે. પહેલા પિતાની છાયામાં તેનો બાળપણ પસાર થાય છે. પિતાના ઘરમાં એ બધુ સારી રીતે સંભાળે છે. અને સાથે અભ્યાસ પણ કરે છે. તેનો આ કામ લગ્ન પછી પણ ચાલૂ જ રહે છે.
પિતાના ઘરે એ કામની સાથ અભ્યાસ પણ કરે છે આમ બમણી ભૂમિકા ભજવે છે. જ્યારે આ સમયે છોકરાઓને અભ્યાસ સિવાય બીજું જોઈ કામ નહી હોય છે. કેટલાક નવયુવક તો અભ્યાસ પણ નહી કરતા. જ્યારે તેણે આ સિવાય બીજું કોઈ કામ નહી રહે છે. આ રીતે નારીને હમેશા પુરૂષોની સાથે સમાન રીતે ચાલે છે. પણ તેનાથી વધારે એ વધારે જવાબદારીઓ ભજેવે છે. નારી આ રીતે પણ સમ્માનીય છે.
લગ્ન પછી- લગ્ન પછી મહિલાઓ પણ બીજી ઘણી જવાબદારીઓ આવી જાય છે. સાસ-સસરા-દેવર નનદની સેવા પછી તેની પાસે પોતાના માટે સમય જ નહી બચતું. સંતાનના જન્મ પચી પણ તેમની જવાબદારીઓ વધી જાય છે. ઘર-પરિવારમાં જ વ્યસ્ત હોય છે. સંતાનના જન્મ પછી તો તેમની જવાબદારીઓ વધી જાય છે. એ પોતાના માટે તો સમય હોય જ નહી આખું જીવન બધાના માટે જ કામ કરીને જીવન પસાર કરી નાખે છે. તેને આટલું સમય જ નહી હોય કે એ પોતાના માટે પણ જીવે. પરિવાર માટે પોતાનો જીવન પસાર કરનારામાં ભારતીય મહિલાઓ સૌથી આગળ છે. પરિવાર માટે તેનોઆ ત્યાગ તેના સમ્માનના અધિકારી બનાવે છે.
બાળકોમાં સંસ્કાર- બાળકોમાં સંસ્કાર ભરવાનું કામ માતાના રૂપમાં નારી દ્વારા જ કરાય છે. આ તો અમે બધા બાળપણથી જ સાંભળતા આવી રહ્યા છે કે બાળકોની પ્રથમ ગુરૂ માં જ હોય છે. માંના વ્યક્તિત્વ-કૃતિત્વના બાળકો પર સકારાત્મક અને નકારાત્મક બન્ને પ્રકારનો અસર પડે છે.

અંતમાં અમે આટલું જ કહીશ કે દરેક મહિલાનો સમ્માન કરો. માણસને આ નહી ભૂલવું જોઈએ કે નારી દ્બારા જ જન્મ આપ્યા પછી તમે આ વિશ્વમાં અસ્તિત્વ મળ્યું છે અને અહીં સુધી પહોંચ્યા છો. તેનો અપમાન કરવું યોગ્ય નથી. ભારતીય સંસ્કૃતિમાં તો મહિલાને દેવી, દુર્ગા અને લક્ષ્મીના રૂપ આપી સમ્માન આપ્યું છે.
