જાપાનના પતંગબાજ દ્વારા એક જ દોરી પર ૧૧,૨૮૪ પતંગ ઉડાડવાનો વિક્રમ સ્થાપિત કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો.

એકદમ દૂર પતંગ ઉડાડવાની હરીફાઈ જમાવતા હો છો ને! અત્યાર સુધીમાં સૌથી દૂર એટલે કે સૌથી વધુ ઊંચાઈ પર પતંગ ઉડાડવાનો વિક્રમ ૩૮૦૧ મીટરનો છે.

અત્યાર સુધીમાં સૌથી ઝડપી ઉડાડવામાં આવેલો પતંગ ૧૯૩ કિમી પ્રતિ કલાકની ઝડપે આકાશમાં ઉડાડવામાં આવ્યો હતો.

ન્યૂઝીલેન્ડના માઓરી જાતિના લોકો વૃક્ષની છાલ અને પાંદડાંમાંથી અદ્ભુત પક્ષીઓના આકારના પતંગ બનાવવા માટે સમગ્ર વિશ્વમાં જાણીતા છે.

કોડી મેનલિફ્ટિંગ કાઇટ સિસ્ટમ શોધનારા સેમ્યુઅલ ફ્રેન્કલિન કોડી ૧૯૦૩માં પતંગની મદદથી ઇંગ્લિશ ચેનલ પાર કરનારી પ્રથમ વ્યક્તિ બન્યા હતા.

થાઇલેન્ડમાં પતંગ ઉડાડવા માટે ૭૮ જેટલા નિયમો નક્કી કરવામાં આવ્યા છે.

અમેરિકામાં જ્યારે આંતરવિગ્રહ થયો ત્યારે અમેરિકન સૈન્ય અધિકારીઓ પતંગનો ઉપયોગ સંદેશાવ્યવહાર માટે કરતા હતા.

૧૯૦૧માં માર્કોનીએ પતંગની મદદથી પહેલી વાર રેડિયો તરંગોના માધ્યમથી સંદેશાને એટલાન્ટિક સમુદ્રની પાર મોકલવામાં સફળતા મેળવી હતી.ચીનના ડ્રેગન આકારના પતંગ ખૂબ જાણીતા છે.

પૂર્વ જર્મનીમાં પણ એક જમાનામાં મોટાં મોટાં પતંગ ઉડાડવા પર પ્રતિબંધ હતો, કારણ કે જર્મન શાસકોનું માનવું હતું કે આવા વિશાળ પતંગોના સહારે લોકો ર્બિલનની દીવાલ પાર કરીને પશ્ચિમ જર્મનીમાં પહોંચી શકે છે.

ચીનમાં પણ એક સમયે પતંગ ઉડાડવા પર પ્રતિબંધ લગાવી દેવામાં આવ્યો હતો. જો કોઈ વ્યક્તિ પતંગ ઉડાડતી નજરે ચડે તો તેને ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી કારાવાસની સજા ફરમાવવામાં આવતી. પતંગનું ચીની નામ ફેન ઝેંગ છે.

સૌથી લાંબો સમય પતંગ ઉડાડવાનો વિક્રમ ૧૮૦ કલાકનો છે.

પેરાગ્લાઇડિંગ એટલે પેરાશૂટની મદદથી હવામાં ઉડાડવાની જે રમત છે તે રોગાલો નામના પતંગની પ્રેરણાથી અસ્તિત્વમાં આવી છે. ૧૯૪૮માં ફ્રાન્સિસ રોગાલોએ આ પતંગની ડિઝાઇન તૈયાર કરી હતી.

વિશ્વના જુદા જુદા દેશોમાં ઓક્ટોબર મહિનાના બીજા રવિવારે, ‘વન સ્કાય વન વર્લ્ડ’ સૂત્રને સાર્થક સાબિત કરવા અને વિશ્વમાં શાંતિ, ભાઈચારા અને એકતાનો સંદેશો પ્રસરાવવા પતંગ ઉડાડવામાં આવે છે.

- ન્યુયોર્કમાં એક સાથે ૧૭૮ જેટલા પતંગ ચગાવવાનો વિક્રમ નોંધાયો છે.
- જાપાનમાં ઈમારતની ઉપર પતંગ બાંધવાથી અનષ્ટિ તત્વો દૂર રહેતા હોવાની માન્યતા છે.
- અમેરિકાની રાજધાની વોશિંગ્ટનમાં પતંગ ચગાવવો એ સરકારી ગુનો છે.
- જાપાનમાં કપાયેલો પતંગ ફરી પાછો આપી દેવાનો રિવાજ છે.
- વિશ્વયુદ્ધ પછી કેટલાક દેશો ફક્ત જાસુસી કરવા માટે પતંગ વાપરતા હતા.
- લંડનના વિખ્યાત બ્રિટિશ મ્યુઝિયમમાં પતંગોની વિવિધ જાતો સુરક્ષિત રખાઈ છે.
- ચીનમાં પ્રગતિ અને નસીબના ચિહ્ન તરીકે પતંગ ઉડાડવામાં આવે છે.

પતંગની શોધનો શ્રેય ચીનને જાય છે. પતંગની શરૂઆત જ ચીનથી થઇ હતી. અંદાજે ૨૮૦૦ વર્ષ પહેલાં પતંગ સૌ પ્રથમ ચીનમાં ઊડયો હતો , એ પછી બીજા દેશોએ પતંગ ઉડાવવાનું શરૂ કર્યું હતું. આજે પણ ચીનમાં પતંગનું અને દોરીઓનું મોટા પાયે ઉત્પાદન થાય છે અને વિદેશમાં નિકાસ કરવામાં આવે છે. આપણા દેશમાં ચીની પતંગ-દોરીઓનું વેચાણ વધતું રહ્યું છે.

પતંગની શોધ સંદેશા મોકલવા ઉપરાંત ગુપ્તચર બાબતો માટે થઈ હતી. હવાનો રૂખ કઈ દિશાનો છે એ જાણવા માટે પતંગનો ઉપયોગ થતો હતો. મિલિટરી ઓપરેશનમાં પતંગનો ઉપયોગ થતો હતો. જોકે , છેલ્લા થોડા સૈકાઓથી પતંગ મનોરંજનનો હિસ્સો બની ગયો છે.

સૌથી પહેલો પતંગ ત્રણ હજારવર્ષ પહેલાં પાંદડાંમાંથી બનાવવામાં આવ્યો હતો અને વિશ્વનો સૌથી નાનો પતંગ પાંચ મિલીમીટર જેટલું ઊંચેઊડયો હોવાનું મનાય છે.

વિશ્વના સૌથી વિશાળ પતંગને મેગા ફ્લેગ તરીકે ઓળખવામાં આવે છે. તે ૬૩૦ ચોરસ મીટરનું કદ ધરાવે છે. પીટર લીન નામની વ્યક્તિએ આ પતંગ બનાવ્યો હતો.

જાપાનના પતંગબાજ દ્વારા એક જ દોરી પર ૧૧ , ૨૮૪ પતંગ ઉડાડવાનો વિક્રમ સ્થાપિત કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. સૌથી દૂર એટલે કે સૌથી વધુ ઊંચાઈપર પતંગ ઉડાડવાનો વિક્રમ ૩૮૦૧ મીટરનો છે.

ન્યૂઝીલેન્ડના માઓરી જાતિના લોકો વૃક્ષની છાલ અને પાંદડાંમાંથી પક્ષીઓના આકારના અદ્ભુત પતંગ બનાવવા માટે સમગ્ર વિશ્વમાં જાણીતા છે.

કોડી મેનલિફ્ટિંગ કાઇટ સિસ્ટમ શોધનારા સેમ્યુઅલ ફ્રેન્કલિન કોડી ૧૯૦૩માં પતંગની મદદથી ઇંગ્લિશ ચેનલપાર કરનારી પ્રથમ વ્યક્તિ બની હતી.

થાઇલેન્ડમાં પતંગ ઉડાડવા માટે ૭૮ જેટલા નિયમો નક્કી કરવામાં આવ્યા છે.

૧૭૬૦માં જાપાનમાં પતંગ ઉડાડવા પર પ્રતિબંધ લાદી દેવામાં આવ્યો હતો , કારણ કે લોકો કામ કરવાનું છોડીને આખો દિવસ પતંગ ઉડાડતા હતા.

અમેરિકામાં જ્યારે આંતરવિગ્રહ થયો ત્યારે અમેરિકન સૈન્ય અધિકારીઓ પતંગનો ઉપયોગ સંદેશાવ્યવહાર માટે કરતા હતા.

ગુજરાત અને રાજસ્થાનમાં આ તહેવાર ઉત્તરાયણના નામથી ઓળખાય છે. આ ઉપરાંત જુદાં જુદાં રાજ્યોમાં મકરસંક્રાંતિના નામથી ઓળખવામાં આવે છે. હરિયાણા , હિમાચલપ્રદેશ અને પંજાબમાં આ દિવસને માઘી તરીકે ઓળખવામાં આવે છે. તામિલનાડુમાં તે પોંગલના નામથી ઊજવાય છે. આસામમાં માઘ બિહુ અથવા તો ભોગલી બિહુના નામથી ઓળખવામાં આવેછે. કાશ્મીરમાં શિશિર સંક્રાંત તરીકે પ્રચલિત છે.

ભારત ઉપરાંત પણ જુદા જુદા દેશોમાં આ દિવસનું અનેરું મહત્ત્વ છે. નેપાળમાં થારુ જાતિના લોકો માઘી તરીકે અને અન્ય લોકો તેને માઘ સંક્રાંતિ તરીકે ઓળખે છે.

થાઈલેન્ડમાં સોંગ્રાકાન તરીકે આ દિવસ પ્રચલિત છે અને મ્યાનમારમાં થિંગ્યાન તરીકે તેને ઊજવવામાં આવે છે.

દર વિક એન્ડમાં વિશ્વમાં ક્યાંક ને ક્યાંક પતંગ ફેસ્ટિવલનું આયોજન થતું રહે છે એ રીતે જોઈએ તો આ એકમાત્ર સતત ચાલતો રહેતો તહેવાર ગણાવી શકાય....
