અહીંના લોકોનુ માનવુ છે કે જે વ્યક્તિ પોતાનાથી દસ ગણા બહાદુર આખલાને પોતાના વશમાં કરી લેશે, તે જ સાચો સાહસી પુરૂષ હશે. પણ પશુ કલ્યાણ બોર્ડે આ રમતને હિંસક અને અમાનવીય જાહેર કરતા, આના પર પ્રતિબંધ લગાવવા માટે અવાજ ઉઠાવ્યો છે. હાઇ કોર્ટે આ પરંપરા પર પ્રતિબંધ લગાવવા માટે આદેશ પણ આપ્યો હતો. પરંતુ લોકોનો વિશ્વાસ અને તમિલનાડુ સરકાર દ્વારા ગેરેંટીપૂર્વક આ રમતને સુરક્ષિત રીતે પુરી કરવાની બાહેધરીની અરજી પર વિચાર કરીને, કોર્ટે પુન: આ રમતને સુરક્ષિત રીતે પૂરી કરવાનો આદેશ આપ્યો હતો.
