શીખોના તહેવાર વૈશાખીનું નામ વૈશાખ પરથી પડ્યું છે. પંજાબ અને હરીયાણાના ખેડૂતો સદીઓથી પાક લણ્યા બાદ નવા વર્ષની ઉજવણી કરે છે. તેને પંજાબ અને આસપાસના પ્રદેશોમાં વૈશાખીના નામે ઉજવવામાં આવે છે.
આ તહેવાર પંજાબના સૌથી મોટા તહેવારોમાંથી એક ગણવામાં આવે છે. તે રવી પાક લણવાના આનંદના પ્રતીકરૂપે ઉજવવામાં આવે છે.
વૈશાખીના દિવસે જ 13 એપ્રિલ 1699ના રોજ શીખોના ધર્મગુરૂ ગોવિંદસિંહજીએ ખાલસા સંપ્રદાયની સ્થાપના કરી હતી. શીખ લોકો આ તહેવારને સામૂહિક જન્મદિવસ તરીકે પણ ઉજવે છે.
પ્રકૃતિનો નિયમ છે કે જ્યારે પણ કોઈ જુલમ અને અત્યાચાર તેની પરાકાષ્ઠાએ પહોંચે છે તો તેને દૂર કરવાનો ઉપાય પણ કોઈને કોઈ રીતે મળી જ જાય છે. મોગલ શાસક ઔરંગઝેબનો જુલમ, અન્યાય અને અત્યાચાર પરાકાષ્ઠાએ પહોંચી ગયો અને શ્રી ગુરૂ તેગ બહાદુરજી દિલ્હીના ચાંદની ચોકમાં શહીદ થયા ત્યારે ગુરૂ ગોવિંદસિંહજીએ તેમના અનુયાયીઓને એકઠા કરીને ધર્મ અને માનવતાના આદર્શોની રક્ષા કરવા સદા તૈયાર રહેવા ખાલસા પંથની સ્થાપના કરી.
રૂઢિચુસ્ત રીતરીવાજોથી તે વખતના લોકો નિર્બળ અને કાયર થઈ ચૂક્યા હતા. લોકોની કાયરતાનું એક કારણ તેમની માનસિક ગુલામી પણ હતી. જેમને નીમ્ન વર્ગના અને તુચ્છ ગણવામાં આવતા હતા તેવા લોકોમાં ગુરૂ ગોવિંદસિંહજીએ આત્મરક્ષણ માટેની શક્તિનો સંચાર કર્યો.
આ રીતે 13 એપ્રિલ 1699ના દિવસે શ્રીગઢ સાહેબ આનંદપુર ખાતે ગુરૂ ગોવિંદસિંહજીએ ખાલસા પંથની સ્થાપના કરીને અત્યાચારનો અંત આણ્યો. ગર્વ માત્ર અજ્ઞાની વ્યક્તિને જ હોય એવું નથી. ઘણીવાર જ્ઞાની અને સમજુ વ્યક્તિ પણ તેના જ્ઞાન માટે ગર્વ કરે છે. ગર્વીલો વ્યક્તિ એકદમ સુક્ષ્મ જણાતી બાબત માટે પણ ગર્વ કરે છે. જ્ઞાની, ધ્યાની, ગુરૂ, ત્યાગી અને સંન્યાસી હોવાનો ગર્વ ઘણીવાર એકદમ પ્રબળ થાય છે.
ગુરૂ ગોવિંદસિંહજી આ વાત સારી રીતે જાણતા હતા. તેથી તેમણે પોતાનું ગુરૂ તરીકેનું પદ ત્યજી દિધું અને ગુરૂ ગાદી ગુરૂગ્રંથ સાહિબને સોંપીને વ્યક્તિપૂજાના મહિમાને ખતમ કરી નાંખ્યો.
હિન્દુઓ પણ વૈશાખીની તહેવારને નવા વર્ષની શરૂઆત તરીકે ઉજવે છે. હિન્દુઓ આ દિવસે પવિત્ર સ્નાન અને પૂજા કરીને તેની ઉજવણી કરે છે. એવું માનવામાં આવે છે કે સદીઓ પહેલા દેવી ગંગા આ ધરતી પર ઉતર્યા હતા. તેની સ્મૃતિરૂપે હિન્દુઓ ગંગા કિનારે પરંપરાગત સ્નાન કરવા એકઠા થાય છે. કેરલમાં આ તહેવાર વિશુ તરીકે ઉજવાય છે.
કઈ રીતે વૈશાખીનો તહેવાર ઉજવવામાં આવે છે ?
આ દિવસે પંજાબમાં લોકો ભાંગડા અને ગીદ્દા નૃત્ય કરીને ઉજવણી કરે છે. સાંજે લોકો અગ્નિ પાસે એકઠા થઈને નવા પાકની ઉજવણી કરે છે. આખા દેશમાં શ્રદ્ધાળુઓ ગુરદ્વારામાં જઈને પ્રાર્થના કરે છે.
આનંદપુર સાહેબ ખાતે જ્યાં ખાલસા સંપ્રદાયની સ્થાપના કરવામાં આવી હતી ત્યાં મુખ્ય ઉજવણી કરવામાં આવી છે. સવારે 4 વાગ્યે ગુરૂ ગ્રંથ સાહેબને ઉત્સાહભેર બહાર લાવવામાં આવે છે. દૂધ અને જળથી પ્રતીકાત્મક સ્નાન કરાવ્યા બાદ ગુરૂ ગ્રંથ સાહેબને તખ્ત પર મૂકવામાં આવે છે.
ત્યારબાદ પંચવાણીની સ્તુતિ ગાવામાં આવે છે. દિવસે પ્રાર્થના પૂરી થયા પછી ગુરૂને કડા પ્રસાદ ચઢાવવામાં આવે છે. પ્રસાદ લીધા પછી લોકો ગુરૂના લંગરમાં સામેલ થાય છે અને શ્રદ્ધાળુઓ દિવસભર કારસેવા કરે છે.
સમગ્ર માનવ જાતિ માટે વૈશાખ મહિનાનું સ્નાન પવિત્ર માનવામાં આવે છે. પદ્મપુરાણમાં વૈશાખ મહિનામાં પ્રાત: સ્નાનનું મહત્વ અશ્વમેઘ યજ્ઞ સમકક્ષ માનવામાં આવે છે.
વૈશાખ મહિનાની શરૂઆતથી જ શ્રદ્ધાળુઓ વ્રત કરે છે, જે પૂનમના દિવસે પૂરૂં થાય છ. આ પૂનમે જો વિશાખા નક્ષત્ર હોય તો જેવું નામ તેવા ગુણવાળી લોકોક્તિ સાચી પડે છે એવું કહેવાય છે. ખરેખર તો વિશાખા નક્ષત્રના લીધે જ તેને વૈશાખી પૂર્ણિમા કહેવાય છે.
આ તિથિ બુદ્ધ પૂર્ણિમા તરીકે પણ ઉજવાય છે.
