સંજીવ કુમાર: જન્મદિવસ પર વિશેષ
હિન્દી સિને જગતના સર્વાધિક સક્ષમ અભિનેતાઓમાંથી એક હતા સંજીવ કુમાર. એક પ્રતિભાશાળી અભિનેતા, જેમણે હિન્દી સિનેમાના નાયકની પરંપરાગત છબિને ધ્વસ્ત કરી નાખી અને તેને પોતાની રીતે પરિભાષિત કરી.
9 જુલાઈ, 1930ના રોજ સૂરતના એક ગુજરાતી પરિવારમાં જન્મીલા સંજીવ કુમારનુ સાચુ નામ હરિહર જરીવાલા હતુ. તેમણે પોતાના લગભગ 25 વર્ષ(1960-1985)લાંબા ફિલ્મી કેરિયરમાં 150થી વધુ ફિલ્મોમાં અભિનય કર્યો. ઈ.સ 1971માં 'દસ્તક' અને 1973માં 'કોશિશ' ફિલ્મને માટે તેમણે સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ અભિનેતાનો રાષ્ટ્રીય પુરસ્કાર મળ્યો. આ સિવાય તેમણે ત્રણ ફિલ્મ ફેયર પુરસ્કારોથી પણ સન્માનિત કરવામાં આવ્યા જેમાં 'શિખર'(1968)ને માટે સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ સહાયક અભિનેતાનો અને 'આંધી'(1975) અને 'અર્જુન-પંડિત'(1976)ને માટે સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ અભિનેતાના સન્માનનો સમાવેશ થાય છે.
સંજીવ કુમારે પોતાના ફિલ્મી સફરની શરૂઆત ઈ.સ 1960માં ફિલ્મ 'હમ હિન્દુસ્તાની'માં બે મિનિટની કે નાનકડી ભૂમિકાથી કરી હતી. ઈ.સ 1962માં રાજશ્રી ફિલ્મ્સે 'આરતી'નામની ફિલ્મના નાયકની ભૂમિકાને માટે તેમનુ ઓડીશન લીધુ. સંજીવકુમારને તે ઓડીશનમાં અસફળ જાહેર કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા.
શરૂઆતમાં તેમણે થોડી બી ગ્રેડની ફિલ્મોમાં પણ કામ કર્યુ. તેઓ પહેલી વાર ત્યારે લોકોની નજરોમાં આવ્યા જ્યારે તેમણે 1968માં 'સંઘર્ષ' ફિલ્મમં અભિનય સમ્રાટ દિલીપ કુમારની અદાકારીને પોતાના જોરદાર અભિનયની ચમકથી ફીકો કરી નાખ્યો.
આ એ સમય હતો, જ્યારે હિન્દી ફિલ્મ ઈંડસ્ટ્રીમાં સ્ટાઈલની શરૂઆત થઈ ચૂકી હતી. રાજેશ ખન્ના પહેલા સુપર સ્ટાર જાહેર થઈ ચૂક્યા હતા. અમિતાભ બચ્ચન 'એંગી યંગ મેન'ના રૂપમાં સામાન્ય માણસના રોષને વ્યક્ત કરી રહ્યા હતા અને આ બંને પહેલા દેવ આનંદ હિન્દી સિનેમના પહેલા સ્ટાઈલ ગુરૂ બની ચૂક્યા હતા. આવા સંક્રમણ સમયમાં સંજીવ કુમાર આ બધાથી અપ્રભાવિત, ચુપચાપ પોતાનુ એક અલગ સ્થાન બનાવી રહ્યા હતા. તેઓ વ્યવસાયિક સિનેમા અને 'ઓફ ધ બીટ' સિનેમાનો ભેદ મિટાવવાની સાથે સાથે તેમનો એક જુદો દર્શક વર્ગ પણ તૈયાર થઈ રહ્યો હતો, જે તેમનુ મંદિર તો નહોતા બનાવી રહ્યા પરંતુ હંમેશા તેમની વિવિધ પડકારરૂપ ભૂમિકાઓની રાહ જોતા હતા.

ઈ.સ. 1972માં 'કોશિશ'ફિલ્મથી તેમની અને ગુલઝારની ફિલ્મી જુગલબંદીની શરૂઆત થઈ, જે પાછળથી પાકી દોસ્તીમાં ફેરવાઈ ગઈ. 'કોશિશ'માં તેમણે એક ગૂંગા-બહેરા વ્યક્તિની ભૂમિકાને જીવંત કરતા રાષ્ટ્રીય પુરસ્કાર મેળવ્યો. સંજીવ કુમારે પોતાના શાનદાર અભિનયથી એ સાબિત કરી બતાવ્યુ કે અભિનય શબ્દો પર આધારિત નથી હોતો. તેમણે આંખ અને ચહેરાના અભિનયને કેન્દ્ર બિન્દુ બનાવ્યા. તેમના ભાવ પ્રગટ કરવાની કલા એવી ગજબની હતી કે બીજા અભિનેતા કદાચ લાંબા લાંબા સંવાદો બોલીને પણ ન કરી શકે.
કોશિશ,પરિચય, મોસમ, આંધી, નમકીન અને અંગૂર જેવી ફિલ્મો એ અણમોલ હીરા છે જે આ બંનેના તાલમેલથી ફિલ્મી દુનિયાને મળ્યા છે. જો કે ગુલઝારની ઈચ્છા હતી કે તેઓ સંજીવ કુમારને લઈને મિર્જા ગાલિબ પર એક ફિલ્મ બનાવે પરંતુ સંજીવ કુમારનુ અસમયે થયેલા મોતને કારણે તેવો આવુ ન કરી શક્યા.
સંજીવ કુમાર તે પસંદગીના અભિનેતાઓમાંથી કે હતા જેમણે પોતાની ભૂમિકાને બાકી બધા કામોથી વધુ મહત્વપૂર્ણ સમજી. તેમના અભિનયનો વ્યાપક અંદાજ આના પરથી લગાવી શકાય કે તેમણે લગભગ એક સાથે બની રહેલી ફિલ્મોમાં જયા ભાદુડીના પિતા, સસરા અને પ્રેમીને ભૂમિકાઓ ભજવી.
સંજીવ કુમારે કદી કોઈ ભૂમિકાને નકારી નથી અને હંમેશા દરેક રોલને અનોખી વિશ્વસનીયતા સાથે નિભાવ્યો છે. પછી ભલે તે કોશિશ ફિલ્મના ગૂંગા બહેરાની ભૂમિકાનો હોય કે અંગૂરનો કોમિક ડબલ રોલ, શોલેનો લાચાર ઠાકુર, કે આઁધીનો મહત્વાકાંક્ષી પત્નીનો લો પ્રોફાઈલ પતિ. હિન્દી સિનેમામાં પહેલીવાર સંજીવ કુમારે એક જ ફિલ્મ 'નયા દિન નઈ રાત' માં નવ રસથી પરિભાષિત કરતી નવ ભૂમિકાઓ નિભાવી હતી.
પડદાં પર પોતાની દરેક ભૂમિકાને પૂરો ન્યાય આપીને નિભાવનારા આ મહાન કલાકારનુ વ્યક્તિગત જીવન અધુરુ જ રહી ગયુ. કહેવાય છે કે ફિલ્મ અભિનેત્રી હેમા માલિની દ્વારા લગ્નનો પ્રસ્તાવ ઠુકરાવ્યા પછી તેઓ કદી બીજીવાર કોઈને પ્રેમ ન કરી શક્યા.
સંજીવકુમારને એ વાતનો પાકો વિશ્વાસ હતો કે તેઓ લાંબુ જીવન નહી જીવી શકે, કારણકે તેમના પરિવારમાં છેલ્લી ઘણી પેઢીઓમાં કોઈ પુરૂષ સભ્ય 50 વર્ષની વય પાર નથી કરી શક્યુ. અને ખરેખર, પોતાની અનેક ફિલ્મોમાં પ્રોઢ વ્યક્તિની ભૂમિકા ભજવનારા સંજીવ કુમાર 6 નવેમ્બર, 1985ના રોજ માત્ર 47 વર્ષની અવસ્થામાં આ ફાની દુનિયાને છેલ્લી સલામ કરી ગયા.
હિન્દી સિનેમા જગતે વાસ્તવમાં આ કલાકારની ક્ષમતાઓનો ભરપૂર ઉપયોગ નહી કર્યો. સંજીવ કુમારના અસમય મોતને કારણે આપણે ઘણી મજબૂત ભૂમિકાઓનો પરિચય કરવાથી વંચિત રહી ગયા.
9 જુલાઈ, 1930ના રોજ સૂરતના એક ગુજરાતી પરિવારમાં જન્મીલા સંજીવ કુમારનુ સાચુ નામ હરિહર જરીવાલા હતુ. તેમણે પોતાના લગભગ 25 વર્ષ(1960-1985)લાંબા ફિલ્મી કેરિયરમાં 150થી વધુ ફિલ્મોમાં અભિનય કર્યો. ઈ.સ 1971માં 'દસ્તક' અને 1973માં 'કોશિશ' ફિલ્મને માટે તેમણે સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ અભિનેતાનો રાષ્ટ્રીય પુરસ્કાર મળ્યો. આ સિવાય તેમણે ત્રણ ફિલ્મ ફેયર પુરસ્કારોથી પણ સન્માનિત કરવામાં આવ્યા જેમાં 'શિખર'(1968)ને માટે સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ સહાયક અભિનેતાનો અને 'આંધી'(1975) અને 'અર્જુન-પંડિત'(1976)ને માટે સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ અભિનેતાના સન્માનનો સમાવેશ થાય છે.
સંજીવ કુમારે પોતાના ફિલ્મી સફરની શરૂઆત ઈ.સ 1960માં ફિલ્મ 'હમ હિન્દુસ્તાની'માં બે મિનિટની કે નાનકડી ભૂમિકાથી કરી હતી. ઈ.સ 1962માં રાજશ્રી ફિલ્મ્સે 'આરતી'નામની ફિલ્મના નાયકની ભૂમિકાને માટે તેમનુ ઓડીશન લીધુ. સંજીવકુમારને તે ઓડીશનમાં અસફળ જાહેર કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા.
આ એ સમય હતો, જ્યારે હિન્દી ફિલ્મ ઈંડસ્ટ્રીમાં સ્ટાઈલની શરૂઆત થઈ ચૂકી હતી. રાજેશ ખન્ના પહેલા સુપર સ્ટાર જાહેર થઈ ચૂક્યા હતા. અમિતાભ બચ્ચન 'એંગી યંગ મેન'ના રૂપમાં સામાન્ય માણસના રોષને વ્યક્ત કરી રહ્યા હતા અને આ બંને પહેલા દેવ આનંદ હિન્દી સિનેમના પહેલા સ્ટાઈલ ગુરૂ બની ચૂક્યા હતા. આવા સંક્રમણ સમયમાં સંજીવ કુમાર આ બધાથી અપ્રભાવિત, ચુપચાપ પોતાનુ એક અલગ સ્થાન બનાવી રહ્યા હતા. તેઓ વ્યવસાયિક સિનેમા અને 'ઓફ ધ બીટ' સિનેમાનો ભેદ મિટાવવાની સાથે સાથે તેમનો એક જુદો દર્શક વર્ગ પણ તૈયાર થઈ રહ્યો હતો, જે તેમનુ મંદિર તો નહોતા બનાવી રહ્યા પરંતુ હંમેશા તેમની વિવિધ પડકારરૂપ ભૂમિકાઓની રાહ જોતા હતા.

કોશિશ,પરિચય, મોસમ, આંધી, નમકીન અને અંગૂર જેવી ફિલ્મો એ અણમોલ હીરા છે જે આ બંનેના તાલમેલથી ફિલ્મી દુનિયાને મળ્યા છે. જો કે ગુલઝારની ઈચ્છા હતી કે તેઓ સંજીવ કુમારને લઈને મિર્જા ગાલિબ પર એક ફિલ્મ બનાવે પરંતુ સંજીવ કુમારનુ અસમયે થયેલા મોતને કારણે તેવો આવુ ન કરી શક્યા.
સંજીવ કુમાર તે પસંદગીના અભિનેતાઓમાંથી કે હતા જેમણે પોતાની ભૂમિકાને બાકી બધા કામોથી વધુ મહત્વપૂર્ણ સમજી. તેમના અભિનયનો વ્યાપક અંદાજ આના પરથી લગાવી શકાય કે તેમણે લગભગ એક સાથે બની રહેલી ફિલ્મોમાં જયા ભાદુડીના પિતા, સસરા અને પ્રેમીને ભૂમિકાઓ ભજવી.
સંજીવ કુમારે કદી કોઈ ભૂમિકાને નકારી નથી અને હંમેશા દરેક રોલને અનોખી વિશ્વસનીયતા સાથે નિભાવ્યો છે. પછી ભલે તે કોશિશ ફિલ્મના ગૂંગા બહેરાની ભૂમિકાનો હોય કે અંગૂરનો કોમિક ડબલ રોલ, શોલેનો લાચાર ઠાકુર, કે આઁધીનો મહત્વાકાંક્ષી પત્નીનો લો પ્રોફાઈલ પતિ. હિન્દી સિનેમામાં પહેલીવાર સંજીવ કુમારે એક જ ફિલ્મ 'નયા દિન નઈ રાત' માં નવ રસથી પરિભાષિત કરતી નવ ભૂમિકાઓ નિભાવી હતી.
પડદાં પર પોતાની દરેક ભૂમિકાને પૂરો ન્યાય આપીને નિભાવનારા આ મહાન કલાકારનુ વ્યક્તિગત જીવન અધુરુ જ રહી ગયુ. કહેવાય છે કે ફિલ્મ અભિનેત્રી હેમા માલિની દ્વારા લગ્નનો પ્રસ્તાવ ઠુકરાવ્યા પછી તેઓ કદી બીજીવાર કોઈને પ્રેમ ન કરી શક્યા.
સંજીવકુમારને એ વાતનો પાકો વિશ્વાસ હતો કે તેઓ લાંબુ જીવન નહી જીવી શકે, કારણકે તેમના પરિવારમાં છેલ્લી ઘણી પેઢીઓમાં કોઈ પુરૂષ સભ્ય 50 વર્ષની વય પાર નથી કરી શક્યુ. અને ખરેખર, પોતાની અનેક ફિલ્મોમાં પ્રોઢ વ્યક્તિની ભૂમિકા ભજવનારા સંજીવ કુમાર 6 નવેમ્બર, 1985ના રોજ માત્ર 47 વર્ષની અવસ્થામાં આ ફાની દુનિયાને છેલ્લી સલામ કરી ગયા.
હિન્દી સિનેમા જગતે વાસ્તવમાં આ કલાકારની ક્ષમતાઓનો ભરપૂર ઉપયોગ નહી કર્યો. સંજીવ કુમારના અસમય મોતને કારણે આપણે ઘણી મજબૂત ભૂમિકાઓનો પરિચય કરવાથી વંચિત રહી ગયા.
