બુધવારે ઇંગ્લૅન્ડના સાઉથૅમ્પટનમાં યોજાયેલ પ્રથમ વર્લ્ડ ટેસ્ટ ચૅમ્પિયનશિપની ફાઇનલમાં ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડે ભારતને આઠ વિકેટ પરાજય આપ્યો હતો. આ સાથે ટેસ્ટ ક્રિકેટના ઇતિહાસમાં પ્રથમ વખત યોજાયેલ વર્લ્ડ ચૅમ્પિયનશિપનું ટાઇટલ ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડના નામે થયું હતું. શરૂઆતથી ચૅમ્પિયનશિપ જીતવા માટે ફૅવરિટ માનવામાં આવી રહેલી 'કોહલી બ્રિગેડ'ની હારથી ભારતીય ક્રિકેટ ચાહકોમાં નિરાશા વ્યાપી ગઈ હતી. ત્યાર બાદથી સોશિયલ મીડિયા અને અન્ય માધ્યમો પર ભારતની હાર અને ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડના ભવ્ય વિજય પાછળનાં કારણોની છણાવટ કરવાનો જાણે સિલસિલો ચાલુ થઈ ગયો છે.

ભારતની હારનાં કારણો અંગે નિષ્ણાતોના મત મુજબ સૌથી મહત્ત્વપૂર્ણ પરિબળો ખરાબ ટીમ સિલેક્શન, પ્રૅક્ટિસનો અભાવ અને ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડની ટીમને હળવાશમાં લેવાનું વલણ હતાં. નિષ્ણાતો જણાવે છે કે ફાઇનલમાં ભારતીય ટીમ પૂરતી તૈયાર નહોતી તેવું લાગ્યું.
ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડની ટીમમે ઇંગ્લૅન્ડમાં તાજેતરમાં જ બે ટેસ્ટ મૅચ રમી હતી. જ્યારે ભારતની ટીમે તાજેતરમાં ત્યાં આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય ટેસ્ટ મૅચ રમી નહોતી.
આમ, પ્રૅક્ટિસનો અભાવ આ બંને ટીમો વચ્ચે ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડ બાજી મારી ગયું તે માટેનું મુખ્ય કારણ હોઈ શકે. ભારતની હારના બીજા કારણ અંગે વાત કરતા નિષ્ણાત જણાવે છે કે, "ભારતે ખરા અર્થમાં આ ટેસ્ટ મૅચમાં ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડની ટીમને ખૂબ જ હળવાશમાં લીધી, જે અંતે ભારતની ટીમની હારનું કારણ બન્યું."
બે વર્ષ સુધી ચાલેલી ચૅમ્પિયનશિપમાં સતત સારા પ્રદર્શન બાદ ફાઇનલમાં ભારતીય ટીમે જોવું પડ્યું હારનું મોઢું
"સૌથી મોટી મુશ્કેલી એ છે કે ભારત હજુ પણ ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડને 1975ની ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડની ટીમ ગણીને જ મેદાને ઊતરે છે. ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડની ટીમ ભલભલી ટીમોને પરાજય આપીને ટાઇટલ જીતી શકે તેવી છાપ રાખીને ભારતીય ટીમ ફાઇનલ મૅચ રમવા માટે મેદાને ઊતરી નહોતી."
ભારતની હારનું ત્રીજું કારણ સ્પષ્ટ કરતાં નિષ્ણાત જણાવે છે કે, વર્લ્ડ ટેસ્ટ ચૅમ્પિયનશિપની ફાઇનલમાં આવીને ભારતે હારનો સામનો કરવો પડ્યો તેના માટે પ્લેઇંગ ઇલેવન અને બેન્ચ સ્ટ્રેન્થની પસંદગીમાં ભૂલભરેલા નિર્ણયોએ મોટી ભૂમિકા ભજવી.
તેઓ કહે છે, "ભારતે બે સ્પિનર અને ત્રણ ફાસ્ટ બૉલર સાથે ફાઇનલમાં ઊતરવાની જરૂર નહોતી. તેના સ્થાને ચાર ફાસ્ટ બૉલર અને એક સ્પિનર સાથે ભારતીય ટીમ મેદાને ઊતરી હોત તો ઓછામાં ઓછું તેઓ ટેસ્ટ ડ્રૉ કરાવીને સંયુક્ત વિજેતા બની શક્યા હોત."
આ સિવાય નિષ્ણાત માને છે કે હવામાનની આગાહી મુજબ ટીમ સિલેક્શનમાં શક્યતાઓને ધ્યાને લઈને જરૂરી ફેરફારો ન કરાયા તે પણ હાર માટેનું એક કારણ છે. તેઓ ટીમ સિલેક્શનની વાત પર વધુ ભાર મૂકતાં કહે છે, "ભારતની ટીમ જો ચાર ફાસ્ટ બૉલર સાથે રમી હોત તો કદાચ તે આ નાના ટાર્ગેટને બચાવવા માટે થોડી વધુ મહેનત કરી શકી હોત."

ભારતે સાઉથૅમ્પટનમાં રમાઈ રહેલી મૅચમાં ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડને જીતવા માટે 139 રનનો લક્ષ્યાંક આપ્યો હતો. ભારતીય બૉલર આર. અશ્વિને ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડની ઑપનિંગ જોડીને તોડી હતી. અશ્વિને લૅથમ અને કૉનવેને આઉટ કર્યા હતા.
ડેવન કૉનવે અને ટૉમ લૅથમે પ્રથમ વિકેટ માટે 33 રન બનાવ્યા.લૅથમ નવ રન બનાવીને સ્પિનર રવિચંદ્રન અશ્વિનના બૉલ પર આઉટ થયા. ત્યારબાદ અશ્વિને કૉનવેને પેવેલિયન મોકલ્યા હતા. તેમણે 19 રન બનાવ્યા. ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડની બીજી વિકેટ 44 રન પર પડી હતી.

ફાઇનલમાં ભારત તરફથી ઋષભ પંત રહ્યા ટૉપ સ્કોરર
ભારત અને ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડ વચ્ચે રમાયેલી 'વર્લ્ડ ટેસ્ટ ચૅમ્પિયનશિપ'ની ફાઇનલમાં ભારતની બીજી ઇનિંગ 170 રનમાં સમેટાઈ ગઈ. ભારતે ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડ સામે જીતવા માટે 139 રનનો પડકાર મૂક્યો. બીજી ઇનિંગમાં ભારતના ટૉપ સ્કોરર ઋષભ પંત રહ્યા, જેમણે 41 રન બનાવ્યા. ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડના બૉલરોએ છઠ્ઠા દિવસે પહેલા સત્રમાં જ ત્રણ ઝટકા આપીને ભારતને દબાણમાં લાવી દીધું હતું.
ભારતે લંચ પહેલાં કપ્તાન વિરાટ કોહલી, ઉપકપ્તાન અજિંક્ય રહાણે અને ચેતેશ્વર પૂજારાની વિકટ ગુમાવી હતી. છઠા દિવસે રમતની શરૂઆત બે વિકેટ પર 64 રનના સ્કોર સાથે કરનારી ભારતીય ટીમના લંચ સુધી પાંચ વિકેટ પર 130 રન હતા. મૅચમાં વરસાદની સંભાવનાને પગલે જ એક દિવસ વધારાનો રાખવામાં આવ્યો હતો.
આ અગાઉ મંગળવારે ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડની ટીમ પહેલી ઇનિંગમાં 249 રન બનાવીને આઉટ થઈ ગઈ હતી. ભારતીય ઝડપી બૉલરો સામે કૅન વિલિયમસને મક્કમ રમત દાખવી અને 177 બૉલ પર 49 રન બનાવ્યા. એ પછી કાઇલી જૈમિસન અને સાઉધીએ પણ અનુક્રમે 21 અને 30 રન કરીને મહત્ત્વની લીડ અપાવી.

2005 પછી પહેલી વાર મૅચ વધારાના દિવસે યાને કે છઠ્ઠા દિવસે રમાઈ હતી અને ઇંગ્લૅન્ડમાં આવું 1975 પછી કદી થયું નહોતું. પાંચમા દિવસની રમત ઉતાર-ચઢાવની રહી અને બેઉ ટીમોને એમ લાગ્યું કે તેમની મૅચ પર પકડ છે. સવારે ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડની ધીમી શરૂઆત બાદ ભારતીય બૉલરોએ મૅચમાં જીવ ફૂંક્યો અને લંચ પહેલાં ત્રણ વિકેટ ઝડપી લીધી.
જોકે, એ પછી કૅન વિલિયમસને ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડને જલદી આઉટ કરી દેવાના ભારતના પ્રયાસોનો મક્કમ પ્રતિકાર કર્યો. એમણે શરૂઆતના 100 બૉલમાં ફક્ત 15 રન કર્યા હતા. એ પછી ટિમ સાઉધી અને કાઇલ જૈમિલને ઝડપથી રન કર્યા.

આ મૅચમાં ભારત સામે ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડના શાનદાર પ્રદર્શનના અનેક પ્રસંગો જોવા મળ્યા. ભારત જેવી સુપરપાવર ટીમ સામે બીજી કોઈ ટીમ સવારના સત્ર પછી ભાગ્યે જ ટકી શકે. જોકે, ન્યૂઝીલૅન્ડના ખેલાડીઓએ ખરાબ સત્ર પછી પણ હાર ન માની.
