"એ 10 એપ્રિલ 2018નો દિવસ હતો. હું દરરોજની જેમ કૉલેજ જવા નીકળ્યો હતો. હું રોજ ટ્રેનમાં કૉલેજ જતો હતો. તે દિવસે ટ્રેન ચાલી અને મારો પગ લપસી ગયો. હું ટ્રેન અને ટ્રેકની વચ્ચે ફસાઈ ગયો હતો. ટ્રેન મારા ડાબા હાથ પરથી પસાર થઈ અને હાથ કોણીમાંથી કપાઈને અલગ થઈ ગયો. પરંતુ મારી બૅગ ટ્રેનમાં ફસાઈ ગઈ અને હું ટ્રેન સાથે ઘસડાતો રહ્યો."
મુંબઈના રહેવાસી ચયાંક કુમારે એ દિવસે હંમેશાં માટે પોતાનો હાથ ગુમાવી દીધો હોત પરંતુ સમયસર દવાખાને પહોંચી જવાથી તેમને હાથ પરત મળી ગયો. ચયાંકનો કપાયેલો હાથ માત્ર જોડાયો જ નહીં પણ છ મહિનામાં તેમાં હલનચલન પણ થવા લાગ્યું.
પોતાની સાથે થયેલી આ દુર્ઘટના અંગે ચયાંક કહે છે, "જ્યારે હું ટ્રેન જતી રહી અને મેં જોયું કે મારો હાથ કપાઈ ગયો ગયો છે અને થોડો દૂર પડ્યો છે. મારા હાથમાંથી લોહી વહી રહ્યું હતું અને ખૂબ પીડા થતી હતી."

"મેં જેમતેમ કરીને મારો હાથ ઊઠાવ્યો અને હું પ્લૅટફૉર્મ તરફ ગયો. એક વ્યક્તિને મેં ઉપર ખેંચવા કહ્યું. હું મહામહેનતે પ્લૅટફૉર્મ પર બેઠો અને મારા માતાને ફોન કરવાની કોશિશ કરી પણ ફોન અનલૉક ન થઈ શક્યો. મેં કોઈ બીજા વ્યક્તિની મદદથી મારા માતાને ફોન કર્યો."
ચયાંકને એ ખબર નહોતી કે કપાયેલું અંગ શરીર સાથે ફરી જોડી શકાય કે નહીં. તેમાં તેમને રેલવે કર્મચારીઓ અને સરકારી દવાખાનાએ મદદ કરી.
ચયાંક જણાવે છે, "જ્યારે હું મારા માતાને ફોન કરી રહ્યો હતો ત્યારે સ્ટેશન માસ્ટર અને જીઆરપી પોલીસ આવી ગઈ."
"મને સ્ટ્રેચર પર ઍમ્બુલન્સમાં લઈ જવાયો અને નજીકની સરકારી હૉસ્પિટલમાં દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યો."
"ત્યાંથી મારા માતા મને કોકિલાબહેન હૉસ્પિટલ લઈ ગયાં. ત્યાં મારી સર્જરી કરવામાં આવી, જે લગભગ આઠ કલાક ચાલી. ત્યારબાદ મારી ત્રણ સર્જરી કરવામાં આવી."
સર્જરીના તરત બાદ ચયાંકનો હાથ સરખો ન થયો. તેમાં સંવેદના અને હલનચલન અનુભવાતા છ મહિના લાગી ગયા હતા.
ચયાંકે જણાવ્યું, "સર્જરી બાદ હાથમાં કોઈ હલનચલન થતું નહોતું. કંઈ અનુભવી શકતો નહોતો. ફિઝિયોથૅરાપી પણ ચાલુ હતી. પછી સપ્ટેમ્બર-ઑક્ટોબરમાં આંગળીઓની હરકત શરૂ થઈ."
"કોઈ સ્પર્શ કરે તો ખબર પડે છે. ક્યારેક તો થતું કે ખબર નહીં હાથ સારો થશે કે નહીં પણ મારાં માતા મને હંમેશાં હિંમત આપતાં રહ્યાં."
એન્જિનિયરિંગનો અભ્યાસ કરી રહેલા ચયાંક કુમારને તો પોતાનો હાથ પરત મળી ગયો પણ પૂરતી જાણકારી ન હોવાથી આવી દુર્ઘટનાઓમાં ઘણા લોકોને કપાયેલાં અંગ પરત મળતાં નથી. શરીરથી બિલકુલ અલગ થઈ ગયેલા અંગને પણ પરત જોડી શકાય છે પણ તેના માટે કેટલીક સાવધાની રાખવી જરૂરી છે.
કોકિલાબહેન અંબાણી હૉસ્પિટલમાં ચયાંક કુમારનો ઇલાજ કરનાર પ્લાસ્ટિક સર્જન ડૉ. કાજી અહેમદ કહે છે કે ચયાંકનો હાથ બચી શક્યો, કારણ કે તે સમયસર અને યોગ્ય રીતે હૉસ્પિટલ પહોંચ્યા હતા.
ચાર કલાકની અંદર જ તેમની સર્જરી થઈ ગઈ હતી.
ડૉ. કાજી અહેમદે આવા કિસ્સામાં રાખવી પડતી સાવધાની અને સર્જરી વિશે વિસ્તારથી માહિતી આપી.
કપાયેલું અંગ કેવી રીતે રાખવું
સૌથી અગત્યનું છે કપાયેલા અંગને ખરાબ કર્યા વિના સુરક્ષિત હૉસ્પિટલ પહોંચાડવું, તેથી સમયસર ઑપરેશન થઈ શકે.
જ્યાં સુધી તે શરીર સાથે જોડાયેલું છે, ત્યાં સુધી તેને ઑક્સિજન મળતો રહે છે. અંગ કપાતા ઑક્સિજન મળતો બંધ થાય છે અને કોશિકાઓ મરવા લાગે છે. કોશિકાઓ નિષ્ક્રિય થાય એ પહેલાં તેને શરીર સાથે જોડવી જરૂરી છે. તેથી તેમાં રક્તપ્રવાહ શરૂ થઈ શકે.
તેથી એ વાતનું ધ્યાન રાખવું જોઈએ કે જે ભાગ કપાઈ ગયો છે તે ઠંડો રહે અને તેનું મૅટાબૉલિઝમ ચાલુ રહે એટલે કે તેમાં પ્રાણ રહે.
તેથી કપાયેલા અંગને સલાઇન અથવા સાફ પાણીથી ધોવું જોઈએ. પછી એક સાફ કપડામાં હળવું લપેટીને સાચવી લો.
કપડાને ચુસ્ત બાંધો નહીં. માત્ર લપેટો. તેના માટે રૂમાલ કે ભીના ટુવાલનો ઉપયોગ કરી શકો છો. પછી તેને એક પૉલિથિનમાં રાખી દો. પછી બીજી એક પૉલિથિનમાં બરફ કે ઠંડું પાણી ભરીને અંગવાળી પૉલિથિન તેની અંદર રાખી દો. તેથી કપાયેલો ભાગ ઠંડો રહે પણ સીધો બરફના સંપર્કમાં ન આવે.
આ કપાયેલા અંગ પર સીધો બરફ ન લાગવો જોઈએ. બરફ જામી જશે તો એ ખરાબ થઈ જશે. તેનાથી કૉલ્ડ ઇન્જરી થઈ શકે છે. ઠંડું પડી જવાથી તેની નિષ્ક્રિય થવાની પ્રક્રિયા ધીમી પડી જાય છે. તેનાથી સર્જરી સફળ થવાની શક્યતા વધી જાય છે. સાથે જ શરીરમાં જે જગ્યાએથી અંગ કપાયું છે, ત્યાં ભીનું કપડું બાંધી દો. જેથી લોહીનો પ્રવાહ અટકી જાય. તેમાં હળવા પ્રેશર સાથે ડ્રેસિંગ કરી લો. જો લોહી ન અટક્યું તો જીવને જોખમ થઈ શકે છે. ગુપ્તાંગો કપાવા પર પણ આ જ પ્રક્રિયા હોય છે.
બચાવવા માટે કેટલો સમય
કપાયેલા અંગની કેટલા સમયમાં સર્જરી થવી જોઈએ, એ વાત પર નિર્ભર છે કે કયું અંગ કપાયું છે. જો આંગળી કપાઈ હોય અને તેને સારી રીતે પ્રિઝર્વ કરવામાં આવે તો 10થી 12 કલાકનો સમય મળી રહે છે. ઘણી વખત 24 કલાક સુધી પણ આંગળી બચાવી શકાય છે. જોકે, કોણી અથવા હાથ કપાઈ જાય તો વધુમાં વધુ ચાર કલાક સુધી બચી શકે છે. એટલા સમયની અંદર હાથને જોડવો જરૂરી છે. જે અંગમાં જેટલી વધુ માંસપેશીઓ હશે એટલી તેની બચવાની શક્યતા ઓછી હોય.
આ સર્જરીમાં સામાન્ય ટાંકા લેવાતા નથી પણ માઇક્રોવૅસ્ક્યુલર સર્જરી થાય છે. તે નસને જોડવાની પ્રક્રિયા છે. તેમાં બહુ પાતળી નસો અને નાડીઓને જોડવામાં આવે છે. આ સર્જરી ઑપરેટિંગ માઇક્રોસ્પોકમાં થાય છે. તેમાં વાળથી પણ પાતળા રેસાથી સિલાઈ કરવામાં આવે છે. જેથી રક્તપ્રવાહ ફરી શરૂ થઈ શકે. આ ટાંકા સામાન્ય ઘા માટે ઉપયોગમાં લેવાતા રેસાથી લેવાતા નથી. તેને ખોલી પણ શકાતા નથી. તે શરીરમાં જ રહીને માંસપેશીઓને જોડાયેલી રહેવામાં મદદ કરે છે. આ સર્જરી એ પ્લાસ્ટિક સર્જન જ કરી શકે છે જે માઇક્રોવૅસ્કયુલર સર્જરીના નિષ્ણાત હોય.
કપાયેલું અંગ ક્યારે સાજું થશે તેનો આધાર ઈજા પર છે. મોટી ઈજા હોય તો વધારે સમય લાગે છે. આગળનો રસ્તો પણ મુશ્કેલ જ હોય છે પણ ઈજા ધીરેધીરે રિકવર થાય છે. પાછળથી નાની-મોટી સર્જરીની જરૂર પડી શકે છે. જોડાયા બાદ શરીરનો એ ભાગ નિષ્ક્રિય લાગે છે તેમાં હરકત આવતા 4થી 6 મહિના લાગે છે. જો સર્જરી સારી રીતે થઈ હોય તો સામાન્ય રીતે અંગને અનુભવી શકાય છે. વચ્ચે-વચ્ચે તેમાં વધારો-ઘટાડો થઈ શકે છે. આ ઇલાજમાં ઑર્થોપૅડિક ડૉક્ટર અને ફિઝિયોથૅરાપિસ્ટની પણ જરૂર પડે છે.
