14 दिसंबर को गीता जयंती है। प्रतिवर्ष मार्गशीर्ष शुक्ल एकादशी के दिन गीता जयंती मनाई जाती है। हर वर्ष मोक्षदा एकादशी (Mokshada Ekadashi) को गीता जयंती मनाई जाती है। हिंदू धर्मशास्त्रों में खास महत्व रखने वाला श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता ग्रंथ ज्ञान का अद्भुत भंडार माना गया है। गीता के अनुसार यह जीवन रोने या भाग जाने के लिए नहीं है, यह जीवन तो हंसने और खेलने के लिए हैं। यह ग्रंथ हमें संकट काल में हिम्मत रखकर इससे लड़ने की प्रेरणा देता है।

1. गीता जयंती मार्गशीर्ष शुक्ल एकादशी (मोक्षदा एकादशी) को मनाई जाती है।
2. गीता एकमात्र ऐसा ग्रंथ है, जिसकी जयंती मनाई जाती है।
3. हिन्दुओं के पवित्रतम ग्रंथों में से एक श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता है।
4. श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता की पृष्ठभूमि महाभारत का एक ऐतिहासिक युद्ध है।
5. श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता के 18 अध्याय हैं और महाभारत का युद्ध भी 18 दिन ही चला था।
6. अर्जुन को भगवान श्री कृष्ण ने गीता का उपदेश दिया था।
7. गीता में कर्तव्य को ही धर्म कहा है। भगवान कहते हैं कि अपने कर्तव्य को पूरा करने में लाभ-हानि का विचार कभी भी नहीं करना चाहिए।

10. श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता एक दिव्य ग्रंथ है। गीता मरना सिखाती है और जीवन को धन्य बनाती है। इससे प्राप्त दिव्य ज्ञान हमें पलायन छोड़कर पुरुषार्थ की ओर बढ़ने की प्रेरणा देता है। यह उपदेश भगवान श्री कृष्ण (Lord Krishna) ने अर्जुन (Arjun) को निमित्त बनाकर, समस्त संसार को समझाने की कोशिश की है और गीता के ज्ञान द्वारा हर मनुष्य को पुरुषार्थ करने की प्रेरणा भी दी है। इसका उद्देश्य युगों-युगों तक मानव मात्र का कल्याण करना था।
