न्यूज़ीलैंड के कप्तान केन विलियम्सन ने भारत के पूर्व क्रिकेट कप्तान और विकेट कीपर महेंद्र सिंह धोनी का बचाव किया है। भारत के वर्ल्ड कप की रेस से बाहर होने के बाद सेमीफ़ाइनल में न्यूज़ीलैंड के ख़िलाफ़ धोनी की धीमी पारी की आलोचना हो रही है।
न्यूज़ीलैंड ने बुधवार को मैनचेस्टर के ओल्ड ट्रैफ़र्ड मैदान में सेमीफ़ाइनल के रोमांचक मुक़ाबले में भारत को 18 रन से हराकर लगातार दूसरी बार वर्ल्ड के फ़ाइनल में जगह बनाई है। न्यूज़ीलैंड के 240 रनों के लक्ष्य का पीछा करने के लिए बुधवार को जब भारतीय खिलाड़ी बल्लेबाज़ी करने आए तो पांच रन पर ही तीन विकेट गिर गए।
सातवें विकेट में धोनी और जडेजा की 116 रन की साझेदारी से पहले भारत के 92 रन पर छह विकेट गिर गए थे। जडेजा और धोनी की जोड़ी ने भारत की जीत की उम्मीद जगा दी थी। जडेजा ने 59 गेंद पर 77 रनों की शानदार पारी खेली जबकि धोनी ने विकेट बचाए रखा लेकिन उनकी पारी धीमी रही और उन्होंने 72 गेंद पर 50 रन बनाए।
भारत को आख़िरी 14 गेंद में 32 रन बनाने थे तभी जडेजा के शॉर्ट को विलियम्सन ने कैच लपक लिया। जडेजा के आउट होने के चार गेंद बाद ही मार्टिन गप्टिल ने धोनी को बेहतरीन सीधे थ्रो से रन आउट कर दिया। इसके बाद भारतीय पारी के लिए कुछ बचा नहीं था। हार के के बाद एक बार फिर से धोनी की आलोचना होने लगी कि उन्होंने लक्ष्य के हिसाब से अपनी पारी को तेज़ नहीं किया। धोनी को लेकर भारत के कप्तान विराट कोहली और न्यूज़ीलैंड के कप्तान विलियम्सन दोनों से सवाल पूछे गए।
न्यूज़ीलैंड के कप्तान केन विलियम्सन से जीत के बाद प्रेस कॉन्फ़्रेंस में एक पत्रकार ने पूछा कि अगर वो भारत के कप्तान होते तो क्या टीम में धोनी को रखते? इस पर विलिम्सन ने हंसते हुए जवाब दिया, ''वो न्यूज़ीलैंड के लिए नहीं खेल सकते! लेकिन वो विश्व स्तरीय खिलाड़ी हैं।''
पत्रकार ने फिर अपना सवाल दोहराया कि अगर आप भारत के कप्तान होते तब? विलियम्सन ने कहा, ''बिल्कुल, उनका अनुभव अहम मौक़े पर बहुत काम का होता है। उनका योगदान आज या कल हमेशा रहा है। जडेजा के साथ उनकी साझेदारी बेहतरीन रही। धोनी वर्ल्ड क्लास के क्रिकेटर हैं। क्या वो राष्ट्रीयता बदलने पर विचार कर रहे हैं? अगर ऐसा होता है तो हम उनके चयन पर विचार करेंगे।''

धोनी की आलोचना ग्रुप स्टेज के मैच में भी उनकी आक्रामकता को लेकर हो रही थी। ख़ास करके इंग्लैंड से मिली हार के दौरान धोनी निशाने पर थे। लेकिन विलियम्सन का मानना है कि धोनी वर्ल्ड कप में खेलने लायक विश्व स्तरीय खिलाड़ी हैं। विलियिम्सन ने कहा, ''हम लोगों ने कई मौक़ों पर धोनी को आख़िर में मैच अपनी तरफ़ मोड़ते देखा है। यह बहुत ही मुश्किल विकेट था इसलिए कुछ भी आसान नहीं था।''
48वें ओवर में ट्रेंट बॉल्ट ने धोनी और जडेजा की जोड़ी को तोड़ा था और विलियम्सन की कप्तानी में हर फ़ैसले भारत के ख़िलाफ़ माकूल साबित हुए। सचिन तेंदुलकर ने भी सेमीफ़ाइनल में धोनी और जडेजा के जुझारुपन की सराहना की है। हालांकि सचिन ने यह भी कहा कि भारतीय बल्लेबाज़ी हमेशा टॉप ऑर्डर पर निर्भर नहीं रह सकती। निराशा ज़ाहिर करते हुए सचिन ने कहा कि भारतीय बल्लेबाज़ों ने 240 रन के साधारण लक्ष्य को तिल से ताड़ बना दिया।
सचिन ने कहा, ''मैं निराश हूं क्योंकि हमें बेशक 240 रन के लक्ष्य को हासिल करना चाहिए था। यह कोई बड़ा लक्ष्य नहीं था। हां, ये सही है कि न्यूज़ीलैंड ने पाँच रन पर तीन विकेट झटक कर अपनी जीत की बुनियाद रख दी थी।''
सचिन ने इंडिया टुडे से कहा, ''लेकिन हम हमेशा रोहित शर्मा की बेहतरीन शुरुआत या विराट कोहली से ये उम्मीद करें कि वो मज़बूत बुनियाद रख कर जाएं। बाक़ी के खिलाड़ियों को भी ज़िम्मेदारी लेनी होगी। इसी तरह हम हमेशा धोनी से यह उम्मीद नहीं कर सकते हैं कि वो मुश्किल से मुश्किल परिस्थिति को जीत में बदल दें। धोनी ने ऐसा कई बार किया है।''
धोनी पर क्या बोले कोहली
कप्तान कोहली ने महेंद्र सिंह धोनी का बचाव करते हुए कहा कि उन्होंने ज़रूरत के हिसाब से सही बल्लेबाज़ी की। उन्होंने कहा, "बाहर से कुछ भी कहना आसान है मगर धोनी को एक छोर संभाले रखना था। दूसरे छोर से जडेजा अच्छा खेल रहे थे। मेरे हिसाब से उनका खेल समय की ज़रूरत के अनुकूल था।"
कोहली ने यह भी कहा कि धोनी से पहले पंड्या को ऊपर भेजने का मक़सद यह था कि आख़िर में अगर हालात ख़राब हों तो धोनी मोर्चा संभालने के लिए मौजूद रहें। वर्ल्ड कप के बाद भारतीय टीम वेस्ट इंडीज़ के दौरे पर जाने वाली है। इस बीच धोनी के संन्यास लेने की अटकलों को लेकर एक पत्रकार ने सवाल पूछा कि क्या धोनी ने अगले दौरे को लेकर अपने बारे में कहा है कि वह क्या करने वाले हैं।
इसके जवाब में भारतीय कप्तान ने कहा, "नहीं, उन्होंने हमें कुछ नहीं बोला है।"
