उत्तरी दिल्ली के संत नगर बुराड़ी इलाक़े की गली नंबर 4ए में घुसते ही दाहिनी तरफ़ दो प्लॉट छोड़कर एक तीन मंज़िला मकान है जिसमें अब एक पालतू कुत्ता ही बचा है। घर के सभी 11 लोग रविवार सुबह संदिग्ध परिस्थितियों में मृत पाए गए जिनके मुंह कपड़ों से ढके थे और कइयों के हाथ बंधे थे।
भाटिया परिवार के नाम से प्रसिद्ध इस घर में 10 लोग फंदे से लटके पाए गए थे जबकि सबसे बुज़ुर्ग महिला फ़र्श पर मृत पड़ी थीं। इसमें सात महिला और चार पुरुष हैं जिसमें से तीन नाबालिग हैं। यह परिवार मूलतः राजस्थान से था लेकिन 20 साल से अधिक समय से बुराड़ी में ही रह रहा था।
तकरीबन 75 वर्षीय महिला नारायण, उनके दोनों बेटे भुप्पी (46) और ललित (42) उन दोनों की पत्नियां सविता (42) और टीना (38) भी फंदे से लटके थे। भुप्पी की दो युवा बेटियां और एक नाबालिग बेटा साथ ही ललित का एक 12 वर्षीय बेटा भी मृत पाए गए।
11 मृतकों में नारायण की एक विधवा बेटी और उनकी बेटी यानी नारायण की नातिन प्रियंका (30) भी शामिल हैं। प्रियंका की अभी हाल ही में 17 जून को सगाई हुई थी और जल्द उनकी शादी होनी थी। सेंट्रल रेंज के संयुक्त पुलिस आयुक्त राजेश खुराना ने बताया कि प्रारंभिक जांच से साफ़ तौर पर कुछ नहीं बताया जा सकता है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस मामले में जांच चल रही है लेकिन यह हत्या है या आत्महत्या, इस पर अभी कुछ नहीं कहा जा सकता।
घटना का कैसे पता चला?
इस घर में ही ग्राउंड फ़्लोर पर दो दुकानें हैं। एक किराने की दुकान है जो भुप्पी चलाते थे और दूसरी प्लाईवुड की थी जिसका काम ललित देखते थे। इतने सारे लोगों के मृत पाए जाने का सबसे पहले पता उनके पड़ोसी गुरचरण सिंह को लगा।
गुरचरण सिंह कहते हैं कि उनकी पत्नी रोज़ाना सुबह दूध लेने भाटिया परिवार की दुकान पर जाती थीं लेकिन उनकी दुकान सुबह सात बजे तक नहीं खुली तो उनकी पत्नी ने उनको जाकर देखने को कहा।
गुरचरण कहते हैं, "मैं घुसा तो सारे दरवाज़े खुले थे और सभी लोगों के शव रोशनदान से लटके थे। उनके हाथ बंधे हुए थे। इतने लोगों को लटका देखकर मैं दहल गया। घर आकर मैंने पत्नी को बताया तो वह देखने जाने लगीं। मैंने पत्नी को वहां जाने से रोक दिया।"

इसके बाद गुरचरण ने पड़ोस में रहने वाले एक पुलिसकर्मी को बुलाया और उसने सुबह 7.30 बजे पीसीआर को कॉल किया। गुरचरण बताते हैं कि यह परिवार इतना अच्छा था कि उनकी दुकान से सामान ले जाने पर वह बाद में पैसे दे देने को कह देते थे।
इस परिवार के क़रीबी नवनीत बत्रा कहते हैं कि यह परिवार बेहद अच्छा था जो पूजा-पाठ में लगा रहता था। वह कहते हैं कि पूरा परिवार रोज़ शाम को साथ बैठकर पूजा करता था। बत्रा कहते हैं कि नारायण की एक शादीशुदा बेटी पानीपत में और एक बड़ा बेटा राजस्थान में रहते हैं।
काफ़ी धार्मिक था परिवार
आउटर रिंग रोड से सटा बुराड़ी इलाक़ा पहले गांव हुआ करता था लेकिन दिल्ली की बढ़ती आबादी के बाद बुराड़ी इलाक़े में यूपी, बिहार और उत्तराखंड के काफ़ी लोग आकर बस गए। इस इलाक़े में अधिकतर प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं की तैयारी करने वाले युवा भी रहते हैं। इस परिवार के सामने वाले घर में लाइब्रेरी भी चलती है।
एक दूसरे पड़ोसी टी.पी. शर्मा कहते हैं कि इस परिवार की कभी किसी से दुश्मनी देखने को नहीं मिली। शर्मा बताते हैं, "यह परिवार इतना अच्छा था कि इनके ग़म में आसपास की सभी दुकानें बंद हैं। इनको हमने कभी किसी से लड़ते नहीं देखा। अभी भुप्पी ने भांजी की सगाई की थी, घर में सब ठीक-ठाक था। घर में सब साथ रहते थे तो कोई पारिवारिक विवाद भी नहीं था।"
गली के बाहर रोल का ठेला लगाने वाले मोहम्मद यूनुस कहते हैं कि उनकी पोतियां इस घर में ट्यूशन पढ़ा करती थीं। भुप्पी की दोनों बेटियां ट्यूशन पढ़ाती थीं। यूनुस कहते हैं, "मैं अपनी पोतियों को इस घर में छोड़कर जाया करता था और मुझे हमेशा यहां आदर सत्कार मिला। घर को कभी देखकर लगा नहीं कि यहां कोई समस्या है।"
इस परिवार के काफ़ी धार्मिक होने की बात भी की जा रही है। इसी इलाक़े के एक पुजारी मूलचंद शर्मा कहते हैं कि उनकी इस घर से नज़दीकी थी और यह एक संपन्न परिवार था। वह कहते हैं, "कल रात मेरी भुप्पी से मुलाक़ात हुई थी। मैंने उनसे प्लाई का सामान मंगवाया था और उन्होंने आज सुबह मुझे सामान देने का वादा किया था।"
आत्महत्या या हत्या?
एक पड़ोसी सीमा बताती हैं कि यह परिवार साथ में सत्संग जाता था और किसी भी धार्मिक कार्य में आगे रहता था। वह कहती हैं, "किराने की दुकान के बाहर यह परिवार रोज़ाना एक काग़ज़ पर अच्छे विचार की बातें लिखता था। रोज़ाना इनके परिवार से कोई न कोई यह विचार लिखा करता था। इतने अच्छे विचार वाले लोग आत्महत्या कैसे कर सकते हैं।"

सीमा कहती हैं कि यह परिवार संपन्न था और बच्चे काफ़ी पढ़े-लिखे थे, इसलिए इस घटना पर सवाल उठते हैं। उनका कहना है कि परिवार के सभी छोटे-बड़े लोग पड़ोसियों का सम्मान करते थे। इतनी बड़ी घटना के बाद सारे नेताओं का घटनास्थल पर जाना जारी है। पहले इलाक़े के विधायक संजीव झा घटनास्थल पर मौजूद रहे। उसके बाद क्षेत्रीय सांसद मनोज तिवारी और दिल्ली के मुख्यमंत्री अरविंद केजरीवाल भी पहुंचे।
अरविंद केजरीवाल ने पानीपत से आईं नारायण की बेटी से बात की। उनकी बेटी का कहना था कि घर में तो सारी ख़ुशियां थीं फिर यह कैसे हुआ, शादी की तैयारियां हो रही थीं। अरविंद केजरीवाल और मनोज तिवारी ने पुलिस की रिपोर्ट आने तक इंतज़ार करने को कहा है। उन दोनों का कहना है कि इस हादसे पर पहले से अनुमान नहीं लगाया जा सकता है।
वहीं दूसरी ओर पुलिस ने हत्या की बात को भी ख़ारिज नहीं किया है। सभी शवों को पोस्टमॉर्टम के लिए सब्ज़ी मंडी मोर्चरी में भिजवाया गया है। 11 लोगों की एक साथ मौत की गुत्थियों का पता पोस्टमॉर्टम और पुलिस की जांच रिपोर्ट आने के बाद ही चल पाएगा।
