हिन्दू कैलेंडर के अनुसार, भाद्रपद मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की अमावस्या को कुशोत्पाटिनी अमावस्या या पिठोरी अमावस्या मनाई जाती है। इसे पोला पिठोरा भी कहते हैं। इस वर्ष भाद्रपद माह की कुशोत्पाटनी अमावस्या 6 सितंबर 2021, सोमवार को पड़ रही है। मत-मतांतर के चलते यह अमावस्या मंगलवार को भी मनाई जाएगी।
धार्मिक मान्यता के अनुसार कुशोत्पाटिनी का अर्थ है कुशा को उखाड़ना अथवा उसका संग्रहण करना होता है। धार्मिक कार्य, पूजा, पाठ आदि के लिए वर्ष भर तक लगने वाली कुशा का संग्रहण इस अमावस्या पर किया जाता है। सामान्यत: किसी भी अमावस्या को उखाड़ा गया कुश का प्रयोग एक माह तक किया जा सकता है। कुश को हमारे शास्त्रों में विशेष तौर पर शुद्ध माना गया है।
परंपरा एवं महत्व-
1. भाद्रपद अमावस्या को विवाहित महिलाओं द्वारा संतान प्राप्ति एवं संतान की दीर्घायु के लिए भगवती देवी दुर्गा का पूजन किया जाता है।
2. हमारे शास्त्रों में जप इत्यादि करते समय कुश को पावित्री के रूप में धारण की भी परंपरा है।
3. इस दिन वर्ष भर कर्मकांड कराने के लिए पंडित-पुरोहित नदी, पोखर आदि स्थानों से 'कुशा' नामक घास उखाड़ कर घर लाते हैं।
4. इस संबंध में पौराणिक मान्यता है कि इस दिन कुश को उखाड़ कर रखने की परंपरा है, क्योंकि इस दिन जो कुश उखाड़ा जाता है वह पूरे साल तक किसी भी धार्मिक कार्य में प्रयोग किया जा सकता है।
5. कुशोत्पाटिनी अमावस्या या भाद्रपद अमावस्या के दिन धन-संपत्ति, घर की सुख-शांति और पित्तरों को संतृष्ट करने के लिए कई पारंपरिक पूजा भी की जाती है।
6. जनमानस में यह पिथौरा अमावस्या के नाम से भी जानी जाती है। यह तिथि कालसर्प दोष निवारण, स्नान, दान और पुण्य कर्म के लिए बहुत अधिक महत्वपूर्ण मानी जाती है।
7. हिंदू धर्म में इस अमावस्या को पितृ तर्पण, श्राद्ध कर्म, पिंड दान आदि खास कार्य करने की मान्यता है।
पूजन विधि-
प्रात:काल स्नान के बाद सफेद वस्त्र धारण करके कुश उखाड़ें। कुश उखाड़ते समय अपना मुख उत्तर या पूर्व की ओर रखें। सबसे पहले 'ॐ' का उच्चारण करके कुश को स्पर्श करें। तत्पत्श्चात यह मंत्र पढ़कर प्रार्थना करें- 'विरंचिना सहोत्पन्न परमेष्ठिनिसर्जन। नुद सर्वाणि पापानि दर्भ! स्वस्तिकरो भव॥'। अब हथेली और अंगुलियों के द्वारा मुट्ठी बनाकर एक झटके से कुश को उखाड़ लें। कुश उखाड़ते समय 'हुं फ़ट्' कहें। यहां यह ध्यान में रखना चाहिए कि कुश का अग्रभाग कटा हुआ न हो अथवा जहां से कुश ले रहे हैं वो स्थान गंदा न हो। अबएक बार में ही उखाड़ लें, अत: पहले उसे लकड़ी के नुकीले टुकड़े से ढीला कर लें और फिर एकदम उखाड़ लें। कुश को लोहे का स्पर्श ना होने दें।
इस दिन प्रातः उठकर किसी नदी या कुंड में स्नान करें। सूर्य देव को अर्घ्य दें और बहते जल में तिल प्रवाहित करें। पितरों की शांति के लिए पिंडदान करके ब्राह्मण या किसी गरीब को दान या दक्षिणा दें। अगर कालसर्प दोष से परेशान हैं तो उसके निवारण के लिए पूजा-अर्चना करें या योग्य पंडित से करवाएं। सायंकाल के समय पीपल के वृक्ष के नीचे सरसों के तेल का दीया जलाएं और पितरों को स्मरण करके अपनी परेशानियों से मुक्ति के लिए प्रार्थना करें। संभव हो तो पीपल की 7 परिक्रमा करें।
कुशोत्पाटिनी भाद्रपद अमावस्या के मुहूर्त-
भाद्रपद अमावस्या तिथि का आरंभ सोमवार, 6 सितंबर 2021 को 07.40 मिनट से होगा और मंगलवार, 7 सितंबर 2021 को 06.23 मिनट पर अमावस्या समाप्त होगी।
