ગુજરાતી શ્રાવણ મહિનો 5 ઓગસ્ટથી શરૂ
સમુદ્ર મંથનમાંથી નીકળેલા હળાહળ વિષને સંસારના હિત માટે શિવજીએ પોતાના કંઠમાં ધારણ કર્યું, પરંતુ આ વિષને કારણે તેમને અસહ્ય ગરમી થવા લાગી, તેથી તેમણે ગંગાજી અને ચંદ્ર કે જે બંને સોમ તત્ત્વ છે તેમને ધારણ કર્યાં. ભક્તો પણ શિવજીની ગરમી શાંત થાય તે માટે શિવલિંગ પર જળાભિષેક કરે છે. ભોળાનાથને ગમે ત્યારે ભજી શકાય, પરંતુ તેમને શ્રાવણ માસ વિશેષ પ્રિય છે, કારણ કે શ્રાવણ માસમાં વાતાવરણમાં જળતત્ત્વ વધારે હોય છે. તેઓ ચંદ્ર (સોમ)ના ઇષ્ટદેવ છે, તેથી તેમને શ્રાવણના સોમવાર પણ પ્રિય છે. શિવજીને દરેક સોમવારે ક્રમશઃ એક મુઠ્ઠી ચોખા, સફેદ તલ, લીલા મગ, જવ અને પાંચમો સોમવાર આવતો હોય તો સાથવો ચઢાવવામાં આવે છે. શ્રાવણ માસ 3 ઓગસ્ટ ને બુધવારથી શરૂ થાય છે ત્યારે ભોળાનાથને રીઝવવાની તૈયારી કરી લઈએ
શ્રાવણ માસમાં શિવોપાસનામાં રત્નોથી નિર્મિત રત્નેશ્વર વગેરે શિવલિંગની પૂજા કરીને અપાર વૈભવની પ્રાપ્તિ થાય છે. જ્યારે બિલ્વપત્ર, જળ, અક્ષત અને મુખવાદ્ય એવી સામાન્ય ચીજોથી પણ બમ બમ ભોલે શિવ પ્રસન્ન થાય છે. ભગવાન શિવની કૃપા સહજ પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે. આથી તેમને આશુતોષ, ઉદાર શિરોમણી કહેવામાં આવે છે. રોજ શિવ આરાધના કરવી શક્ય ન હોય તો સોમવારના દિવસે પણ શિવપૂજા અવશ્ય કરો અને વ્રત રાખો. શ્રાવણ માસ અથવા તેના દરેક સોમવારના દિવસે શિવોપાસના કરવી જોઈએ. દરરોજ, સોમવાર તથા પ્રદોષ કાળમાં શિવની પૂજા કરવાથી બધાં જ કષ્ટો દૂર થાય છે. શ્રાવણ માસમાં લઘુ રુદ્ર, મહા રુદ્ર અથવા અતિ રુદ્રના પાઠ કરવાનું વિધાન છે.
શિવજી ભારતીય ધર્મ, સંસ્કૃતિ અને દર્શન જ્ઞાનને સંજીવની પ્રદાન કરનારા છે. આ જ કારણસર તેમને અનાદિકાળથી ભારતીય ધર્મ સાધનામાં નિરાકાર સ્વરૂપમાં શિવલિંગના સ્વરૂપમાં પૂજા થાય છે. શિવલિંગને સૃષ્ટિની સર્વવ્યાપકતાનું પ્રતીક માનવામાં આવે છે. ભારતમાં ભગવાન શિવનાં બાર જ્યોતિર્લિંગ સોમનાથ, વિશ્વનાથ, ત્ર્યંબકેશ્વર, વૈદ્યનાથ, નાગેશ્વર, રામેશ્વર વગેરે છે. તે દેશના જુદા જુદા ભોગોમાં એટલે કે ઉત્તર, દક્ષિણ, પૂર્વ, પશ્ચિમમાં સ્થિત છે, જે મહાદેવની વ્યાપકતાને પ્રગટ કરે છે. શિવને ઉદાર હૃદય અર્થાત્ ભોલે ભંડારી કહેવામાં આવે છે. એવું પણ માનવામાં આવે છે કે શિવજી થોડી જ પૂજા કે અર્ચન કરતાં પ્રસન્ન થઈ જાય છે. ભગવાન શિવજીનો મહામૃત્યુંજય મંત્ર પૃથ્વીના દરેક પ્રાણીમાત્રને દીર્ઘાયુ, સમૃદ્ધિ, શાંતિ, સુખ પ્રદાન કરે છે અને ચિરકાળ સુધી કરતો રહેશે. માનવજાતિની ઉત્પત્તિ પણ ભગવાન શિવ દ્વારા જ માનવામાં આવે છે. આથી ભગવાન શિવના સ્વરૂપને જાણવું દરેક વ્યક્તિ માટે જરૂરી છે. તેમનું સ્વરૂપ અદ્ભુત છે.
જટાઓઃ શિવને અંતરિક્ષના દેવતા કહેવામાં આવે છે. આથી આકાશ તેમની જટા સ્વરૂપ છે, જટાઓ વાયુમંડળની પ્રતીક છે.
આગળ જાણો શિવજીના સ્વરૂપ વિશે

ચંદ્રઃ : ચંદ્રમા મનના પ્રતીક છે. શિવનું મન ભોળું, નિર્મળ, પવિત્ર, સશક્ત છે.તેમનો વિવેક હંમેશાં જાગૃત રહે છે. શિવજીનો ચંદ્રમા ઉજ્જ્વળ છે.
સર્પઃ ગળામાં સર્પનો હાર પહેરે છે. સર્પ જેવો ક્રૂર તથા હિંસક જીવ મહાકાલને આધીન છે. સર્પ તમોગુણી તથા સંહારક વૃત્તિના જીવ છે જેને શિવે પોતાના આધીન રાખ્યો છે.
ત્રિશૂળઃ શિવના હાથમાં એક મારક શસ્ત્ર છે. ત્રિશૂળ સૃષ્ટિના માનવીઓના ભૌતિક, દૈવિક, આધ્યાત્મિક એમ ત્રણે પ્રકારનાં પાપોને નષ્ટ કરે છે.
મૂંડમાળાઃ શિવજીના ગળામાં મૂંડમાળા છે, જે એ વાતની પ્રતીક છે કે શિવે મૃત્યુને પણ પોતાના વશમાં કરી રાખ્યું છે.
વ્યાઘ્રચર્મઃ ભોળાનાથના શરીર પર વ્યાઘ્ર (વાઘ)ચર્મ છે. વાઘને હિંસા તથા અહંકારનો પ્રતીક માનવામાં આવે છે. તેનો અર્થ છે કે શિવજીએ હિંસા તથા અહંકારનું દમન કરીને પોતાની નીચે દબાવી દીધું છે.
વૃષભ : ભગવાન આશુતોષનું વાહન વૃષભ (નંદી) છે, જે હંમેશાં શિવજીની સાથે રહે છે. વૃષભનો અર્થ છે ધર્મ. મહાદેવ આ ચાર પગવાળા બળદની સવારી કરે છે. અર્થાત્ ધર્મ, અર્થ, કામ, મોક્ષ તેમના આધીન છે. સાર રૂપમાં શિવનું સ્વરૂપ વિરાટ અને અનંત છે. શિવનો મહિમા અપરંપાર છે. તેમના ઓમકારમાં જ સમગ્ર સૃષ્ટિ સમાયેલી છે.
