ઘરમાં સુખ-શાંતિ અને સમૃદ્ધિ માટે ઘણા રીતની પરંપરાઓ પ્રચલિત છે. તેમાંથી એક પરંપરા છે. શુભ ચિન્હ બનાવવા કે શુભ ચિન્હોને ઘરમાં સ્થાપિત કરવા. શાસ્ત્રોમાં ઘણા શુભ ચિન્હ જણાવ્યા છે જે ઘર-પરિવારમાંથી પરેશાનીઓને દૂર રાખે છે. લક્ષ્મીજીના સ્વરૂપમાં અનેક ગુણોના આભાસ થાય છે. એ મૂળ સ્વરૂપે ધન અને એશ્વર્યની દેવી છે. લક્ષ્મીનું સ્વરૂપ વૈભવનું રહસ્ય છે. આ વૈભવ ક્યારે સ્થાઈ રહેતો નથી. બનતો બગડતો રહે છે. વસ્તુત: એ તેનો સ્વભાવ પણ છે. તેથી આ ચંચળ સ્વભાવના કારણે જ લક્ષ્મીને ચંચળા કહે છે.

કાર્તિક અમાવસ્યાની અંધારી રાત્રે કે શરદ પૂર્ણિમાના દિવસે ઝિલમિલ દીપના વચ્ચે મહાલક્ષ્મીનું ક્ષીર સાગરમાંથી ધરતી પર આગમન થાય છે. તે ઘરે ઘરે ફરીને તેમના રહેવા યોગ્ય સ્થાન પસંદ કરે છે. જ્યાં તેના અનુરૂપ વાતાવરણ હોય છે, ત્યાં એ રોકાઈ જાય છે. લક્ષ્મીજી આપણા ઘરમાં રોકાય તે માટે આપણે દર વર્ષ તેમની ખાસ-પૂજા ઉપાસના કરીને તેમને પ્રસન્ન કરીએ છીએ. જેથી આપણુ ઘર વર્ષભર સમૃદ્ધિથી પરિપૂર્ણ રહે. દિવાળીની રાત્રિને ધન-સંપદાની પ્રાપ્તિ માટે લક્ષ્મીના પૂજનનું વિધાન છે. આ માન્યતાના કારણે આપણે લક્ષ્મીજીને સ્થાઈ કરવા માટે લક્ષ્મીજીના ચરણના પ્રતીક લક્ષ્મી ચરણ પાદુકા સ્થાપિત કરીએ છીએ. લક્ષ્મીજીના ચરણના રહસ્ય શાસ્ત્રો મુજ્બ મહાલક્ષ્મીના ચરણોમાં સોળ શુભ ચિન્હ હોય છે. આ ચિન્હ અષ્ટ લક્ષ્મીના બન્ને પગથી ઉપસ્થિત 16 ષોડશ ચિન્હ છે જે કે 16 કળાઓનું પ્રતીક છે. શાસ્ત્રોમાં લક્ષ્મીને ષોડશી પણ કહીને બોલાવાય છે. આ સોળ કળાઓ 1. અન્નમયા 2. પ્રાણમયા 3. મનોમયા 4. વિજ્ઞાનમયા 5. આનંદમયા 6. અતિશયની 7. વિપરિનાભિમી 8. સંક્રમિની 9. પ્રભવિ 10. કુંથિની 11. વિકાસિની 12. મર્યદિની 13. સન્હાદિની 14. આહ્યાદિની 15. સ્વરૂપવસ્થિત

શાસ્ત્રોમાં આ સોળ કળાઓ તિથિયા છે જેના ક્રમમાં અમાવસ્યા એકમથી લઈને ચતુર્દશી અને પૂર્ણિમા. લક્ષ્મી ચરણ પાદુકાના લક્ષ્મીના ષોડશી રૂપના 16 ચિન્હ આ રીતે છે. 1. પ્રાણ 2. શ્રી 3. ભૂ 4. કીર્તિ 5. ઈલા 6. ક્રાંતિ 7. વિદ્યા 8. વિમલા 9. ઉત્કર્શિની 10. ક્રિયા 11. યોગ 12. પ્રહવિ 13. સત્ય 14. ઈસના 15. અનુગ્રહ 16. નામ . અષ્ટ લક્ષ્મીના બન્ને ચરણોમાં આ સોળ કળાઓના પ્રતીક ચિન્હ સ્થાપિત હોય છે.

સોળ કળાઓવાળી શ્રી લક્ષ્મી ષોડશીનો રાજ- જે શ્રી વિદ્યા સોળ કળાઓ પ્રદાન કરે તે ષૉડશી લક્ષ્મીના આ સ્વરૂપ એશ્વર્ય, ધન , પદ જે પણ જોઈએ બધા કઈક પ્રદાન કરે છે. તેના શ્રી ચક્રને શ્રીયંય્ર કહેવાય છે. તેનો એક નામ શ્રી મહા ત્રિપુરા સુંદરી કે લલિતા પણ છે. ત્રિપુરા સમસ્ત ભુવનમાં સર્વાધિક સુંદર છે. મહાલક્ષ્મીનો આ સ્વરૂપ જીવને શિવ બનાવે છે. આ શ્રી કુળની વિદ્યા છે. તેમની પૂજાથી સાધકને પૂર્ણ સમર્થ પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે. લક્ષ્મી ચરણ પાદુકા તેની લલિતા શ્રી દેવીના ચરણોના પ્રતીક છે જેમાં સોળ ચિન્હ બનેલા હોય છે.

લક્ષ્મી ચરણ પાદુકા જ્યાં પણ સ્થાપિત કરાય છે ત્યાંથી બધી સમસ્યાઓનો નાશ થાય છે. તેની સ્થાપનાથી ધનઅભાવ ખત્મ થઈ સ્થાઈ ધન સંપતિના માર્ગ પ્રશસ્ત થાય છે. તે મકાન, દુકાન, ઑફિસ કે ક્યાં પણ બારણા પર ચોંટાડવાથી પણ શુભ રહે છે. અષ્ટધાતુથી નિર્મિત આ ચરણ પાદુકા સુખ સમૃદ્ધિ માટે નક્કી જ ઉપયોગી સામગ્રી છે.
