ધનતેરસ 5 નવેમ્બર 2018ના રોજ સોમવારે ઉજવાશે. ભારતીય કેલેંડર મુજબ અશ્વિન મહિનાની કૃષ્ણપક્ષની તેરસ તિથિને ધનની દેવીનો ઉત્સવની શરૂઆત થવાને કારણે આ દિવસને ધનતેરસના નામથી ઓળખવામાં આવે છે. એવી માન્યતા છે કે સમુદ્ર મંથન સમયે કળશ સાથે માતા લક્ષ્મીનુ અવતરણ થયુ જેના પ્રતીક રૂપે એશ્વર્ય વૃદ્ધિ, સૌભાગ્ય વૃદ્ધિ માટે વાસણો ખરીદવાની પરંપરા શરૂ થઈ.

અ) કુબેર પૂજન -
- શુભ મૂર્હત જોઈને નવી ગાદી પાથરો.
- સાંજના સમયે તેર દીવા સળગાવી તિજોરીમાં કુબેરની પૂજા કરો.
કુબેરનું ધ્યાન -
- નીચેનું ધ્યાન બોલી ભગવાન કુબેર પર ફૂલ ચઢાવો. શ્રેષ્ઠ વિમાન પર બિરાજમાન, ગરુડમણિ જેવી આભાવાળા, બંને હાથમાં ગદા ધારણ કરનાર, માથા
પર શ્રેષ્ઠ મુકુટથી શોભતા ભગવાન શિવના પ્રિય મિત્ર નિધીશ્વર કુબેરનું હું ધ્યાન ધરું છુ.
બ) ધનતેરસના દિવસે માતાજીનું પૂજન વિધિ પૂર્વક કરો
- આ દિવસે ધનવંતરિજીનું પૂજન કરો.
-નવી ઝાડુ અને ચોપડા ખરીદી તેનું પૂજન કરો.
-સાંજે દીવો સળગાવી ઘર, દુકાન, વગેરે જગ્યાએ મૂકો.
-મંદિર, ગૌશાળા, નદીના ઘાટ, કુવો, તળાવ, બગીચાઓમાં પણ દીવા મૂકો.
-શક્તિ મુજબ તાંબા, પીત્તળ, ચાઁદીના ઘર ઉપયોગી નવા વાસણ અને આભૂષણ ખરીદો.
- હળ ખેડેલી માટીને દૂધમાં પલાળી તેમાં સેમરની શાખા નાખીને તેને ત્રણ વાર પોતાન શરીર ફેરવો.
- કાર્તિક સ્નાન કરીને પ્રદોષકાળમાં ઘાટ, ગૌશાળા, બાવડી, કુવો, મંદિર વગેરે જગ્યાઓ પર ત્રણ દિવસ સુધી દીવો સળગાવો.
- ત્યારબાદ નિમ્ન મંત્ર દ્વારા ચંદન, ધૂપ, દીપ, નૈવેધથી પૂજન કરો.

ધન ધાન્ય સમૃદ્ધિ મે દેહિ દાપય સ્વાહા
- ત્યારબાદ કપૂરથી આરતી ઉતારીને મંત્ર પુષ્પાજંલિ અર્પિત કરો.

ક) યમ દીપદાન -
- તેરસની સાંજે કોઈ પાત્રમાં તલનું તેલથી યમ દીપક પ્રજવલ્લિત કરો.
- ત્યારબાદ ગંધ, પુષ્પ, ચોખાથી પૂજન કરો. દક્ષિણ દિશામાં મોઢુ કરીને યમને નિમ્ન પ્રાર્થના કરો.
'मृत्युना दंडपाशाभ्याम् कालेन श्यामया सह।
त्रयोदश्यां दीपदानात् सूर्यजः प्रयतां मम।
- હવે આ દીવાઓથી યમને ખુશ કરવા બહારની જગ્યાઓ પ્રકાશિત કરો.
- આ પ્રકારે એક અખંડ દીવો ઘરના મુખ્ય દરવાજાના ઉંબરા પર કોઈ પણ અનાજ(ઘઉં કે ચોખા) પાથરી તેની પર દીવો મુકો. કહેવાય છે કે આ પ્રકારનું
દીપદાન કરવાથી યમ દેવતાના સંકજાથી અને નરકથી મુક્તિ મળે છે.
ડ) યમરાજ પૂજન -
- આ દિવસે યમના માટે લોટનો દીવો બનાવીને ઘરના મુખ્ય દરવાજે મુકો.
- રાતે ઘરની સ્ત્રીયો દીવામાં તેલ નાખીને ચાર બત્તી સળગાવે.
- પાણી, ચોખા, ગોળ, ફૂલ, નૈવેધ વગેરે સાથે દીવો સળગાવી યમનું પૂજન કરો.
