પુણેમાં ભારત અને ઇંગ્લેન્ડ વચ્ચે ત્રણ મેચની વનડે સિરીઝની છેલ્લી અને નિર્ણાયક મેચમાં ભારતે ઇંગ્લેન્ડ સામે 330 રનનો લક્ષ્યાંક આપ્યો હતો. ટોસ હારીને ટીમ ઈન્ડિયાએ 48.2 ઓવરમાં 329 રન બનાવ્યા. શિખર ધવન (67) અને રોહિત શર્મા (37) એ પ્રથમ વિકેટ માટે 103 રન જોડ્યા. ત્યારબાદ મેચમાં આદિલ રશીદ અને મોઇન અલીને ઇંગ્લેન્ડની વાપસી મળી. 25 ઓવરમાં 157/4 ના સ્કોર સાથે પાછળના પગ પર ઉભા રહીને ભારત ફરી Rષભ પંત (78) અને હાર્દિક પંડ્યા (64) સાથે જોડાયો હતો. બંનેએ પોતાની અડધી સદી પૂરી કરી અને સાથે મળીને 99 રન જોડ્યા. જોકે, છેલ્લી ઓવર સુધી તે બેટિંગ કરી શક્યો ન હતો. જો ક્રુનાલ પંડ્યા (25) અને શાર્દુલ ઠાકુર (30) ટકી ન શક્યા હોત, તો ભારત પહેલા 10 બોલમાં આઉટ થઈ ગયું હોત અને પહેલા બોલિંગ કરવામાં આવ્યો હોત.
