प्यार! एक छोटा-सा शब्द, पर अपने आपमें अनूठा और अनुपम है। गन्ने की मिठास, सागर की गहराई, चंद्रमा की शीतलता, सूर्य की तपन, आकाश की पवित्रता, धरा का धैर्य, नदी की चंचलता मानो सभी इस नन्हे से शब्द प्यार में सिमट गए हों। यह जिंदगी को काव्यात्मक रूप दे देता है, कठोरता को कोमलता में बदल देता है यह मानवीय भावनाओं को निकृष्ट से उत्कृष्ट बना देता है।
प्यार को हम एक ही दृष्टि से न देखें तो हमें इसके ढेर सारे रूप देखने को मिलते है। सबसे पहला और अद्भुत प्यार 'वात्सल्य' होता है। यह प्यार हमें माता-पिता से ही मिल पाता है। यह निःस्वार्थ, निष्कपट, निष्पक्ष और मासूम प्यार होता है। बच्चा जब गर्भ में रहता है तो सबसे पहले उसे माँ का ही प्यार मिलता है। माँ की उँगलियों के स्पर्श से उसे अहसास होता है कि वह इस दुनिया में पहला कदम रख रहा है, वह डरा-सहमा सा रहता है, शायद इसलिए ही रोता है पर जब वह अपनी माँ के आँचल में आता है तब मां के शरीर की गंध को,उसकी उँगलियों के स्नेह स्पर्श को पहचानकर अपने आपको सुरक्षित समझ चुपचाप सो जाता है।

इस समय न उसे धन-यश की चाह होती है न ही किसी अप्सरा की, चाह होती है तो केवल अपने माता-पिता के सामीप्य की। बचपन में मिला यह प्यार उसे अंत तक सहारा देता है। इसलिए कहा जाता है कि शैशव अवस्था में बच्चों को भरपूर प्यार देना चाहिए, यह उनके व्यक्तित्व के विकास में उचित पोषण देता है। जिस तरह एक पौधे को बढ़ने के लिए उचित वातावरण, खाद, पानी और रोशनी की जरूरत होती है, उसी तरह बच्चों के समुचित विकास के लिए अच्छे वातावरण, पौष्टिक भोजन के साथ 'उचित' प्यार की भी जरूरत होती है।
प्यार का एक दूसरा रूप है 'स्नेह'। 'स्नेह' जो हमें अपने से बड़ों, पड़ोसियों और गुरुजनों से मिलता है। स्नेह ऐसा प्यार है जो हमें हमारे सद्गुणों के कारण मिलता है। यह एक तरह का प्रतिदान होता है अर्थात बदले में मिला प्यार। हम बड़ों का सम्मान करेंगे तो हमें उनसे प्यार मिलेगा, गुरुजनों के प्रति श्रद्धा रखेंगे तो उनसे हमें स्नेह के साथ ज्ञान भी मिलेगा। 'स्नेह' के लिए किसी से जिद्द नहीं की जा सकती, उसके लिए स्वयं को तराशना और उस योग्य बनना होता है।
प्यार का एक और रूप जो अजीब है अनबूझ पहेली की तरह है। इसे आज तक कोई समझ नहीं पाया है। यह पता नहीं किस तरह दो अजनबी को बहुत करीब ला देता है। लगता है मानो यह नियति के रूप में आता है और जीवन को काव्यात्मक आलोक दे जाता है। यह वह रूप है जो भावशून्य व्यक्ति में भी भावना की हिलोरें उत्पन्न कर देता है, मन को उद्धिग्न कर देता है। आदर्शों में जीने वाला कठोर हृदय व्यक्ति भी समझ नहीं पाता कि कब, क्यों और कैसे उसके हृदय की कठोर बंजर भूमि पर प्यार का अंकुरण हो गया। उसकी आकांक्षाएं, उसके सारे ऊंचे आदर्श धरे रह जाते हैं।
हर किसी के बस की बात नहीं है उस महान प्यार को पाना और देना। यह प्यार दो आत्माओं का प्यार है, दैहिकता से उठकर अलौकिक प्यार है। इस प्यार में हमें प्रतिदान की आवश्यकता नहीं रहती, यह हमें समर्पण करना सिखाता है, त्याग करना सिखाता है। हमें व्यभिचार से दूरकर संपूर्ण पवित्रता की ओर ले जाता है। यह हममें नैतिक साहस लाता है। यह वह प्यार है जो राधा और मीरा ने कृष्ण से किया था। राधा जिसने शरीर, आयु के बंधन से मुक्त होकर कृष्ण को चाहा था।
उन्होंने अपने दाम्पत्य जीवन को निभाते हुए कृष्ण को अपने दिल में जगह दी थी। उनकी आत्मा ने कृष्ण की आत्मा को चाहा था। उनका प्यार कृष्ण के कर्तव्य-पथ पर बाधक नहीं बना। राधा के प्यार में अहंकार की झलक नहीं, स्वाभिमान की खुशबू मिलती है। उन्होंने अपने प्यार में दीनता नहीं आने दी। कृष्ण के गृहस्थ-जीवन में अपना अधिकार माँगने नहीं गईं पर कृष्ण के चरण उनके हृदय में अंत तक अंकित रहे। कृष्ण का थोड़ा-सा प्यार पाकर वे तो चिर-विरहणी बन गईं। महान रूसी उपन्यासकार 'तुर्गनेव' ने भी अपने से उम्र में काफी बड़ी शादीशुदा महिला को चाहा। वह महिला अपने पति को तलाक देने को तैयार नहीं हुई तो उन्होंने आजीवन अविवाहित रहने का निश्चय किया पर उस महिला को कभी दिल से न निकाल सके। प्यार अपने साथी को कभी भी तकलीफ नहीं पहुँचाता है।
सच्चा प्यार करने वाला अपने साथी के दुःख को अपनाकर उसे सुख ही सुख देना चाहता है। कड़ी धूप में छतरी बन उसे छाया देना चाहता है। उसकी गलतियों को अपने सिर लेकर उसे अपमानित होने से बचाता है। अपने दोस्तों के बीच उसे वार्तालाप में नहीं लाता है, वह तो उसे सबसे छुपाकर अपने हृदय के मखमली डिबिया में संजोकर रखता है। वह अपने साथी की 'गरिमा' और 'प्रतिष्ठा' को बनाए रखता है। प्यार तो दिव्य है, यह कभी भी गलत नहीं होता है।
हां! प्यार करने वाले गलत हो सकते हैं। यह तो हम पर निर्भर है कि हमने प्यार को किस स्तर पर ले लिया है। हमारा प्यार सच्चा है तो हमें अपेक्षा नहीं रखनी चाहिए कि सामने वाला भी ठीक हमारे जैसा हो। कभी-कभी प्यार हमें स्वार्थी बना देता है, हम अपने साथी से उतना जुड़ जाते हैं कि किसी का भी उनके करीब आना हम सह नहीं पाते। हम हर समय बस उसे अपने ही साथ चाहते हैं।
अपने प्यार को संजीवनी की तरह बनाएं जो जिंदगी को नई ऊर्जा दे सके, जीवन की खुशी की सांस ले सके। प्राप्त प्यार सच्चा है या झूठा, यह सोचकर अपने जीवन के अनमोल पल को व्यर्थ न जाने दें। हो सकता है आपके साथी की प्यार की गागर 'आधी ही भरी' हो, पर आपको उदारता से अपने प्यार को उसके गागर में छलकाते चले जाना है। एक दिन उनकी गागर छलकने लगेगी और आप उस प्यार के रस से सराबोर हो उठेंगे। प्यार पाना है हमें तो प्यार करना सीखना होगा। अपने अहं, स्वार्थ का त्याग करना होगा हम तभी हम अपने प्यार को वह दिव्य रूप दे सकेंगे। वर्ना तो-
