श्रावण मास का हिंदू धर्म में बड़ा महत्व है। आइए 10 विशेष बातों से जानें इस पवित्र महीने की विशेषताएं... 

1. श्रावण मास में भगवान शिव की पूजा-आराधना का विशेष विधान है। हिंदू पंचांग के अनुसार यह महीना वर्ष का पांचवां माह है और अंग्रेजी कैलेंडर के अनुसार सावन का महीना जुलाई-अगस्त में आता है। 

2. इस दौरान सावन सोमवार व्रत का सर्वाधिक महत्व बताया जाता है। दरअसल श्रावस मास भगवान भोलेनाथ को सबसे प्रिय है। इस माह में सोमवार का व्रत और सावन स्नान की परंपरा है। श्रावण मास में बेल पत्र से भगवान भोलेनाथ की पूजा करना और उन्हें जल चढ़ाना अति फलदायी माना गया है। 

3. शिव पुराण के अनुसार जो कोई व्यक्ति इस माह में सोमवार का व्रत करता है भगवान शिव उसकी समस्त मनोकामनाओं को पूर्ण करते हैं। सावन के महीने में लाखों श्रद्धालु ज्योर्तिलिंग के दर्शन के लिए हरिद्वार, काशी, उज्जैन, नासिक समेत भारत के कई धार्मिक स्थलों पर जाते हैं।

4.सावन के महीने का प्रकृति से भी गहरा संबंध है क्योंकि इस माह में वर्षा ऋतु होने से संपूर्ण धरती बारिश से हरी-भरी हो जाती है। ग्रीष्म ऋतु के बाद इस माह में बारिश होने से मानव समुदाय को बड़ी राहत मिलती है। इसके अलावा श्रावण मास में कई पर्व भी मनाए जाते हैं।

5. भारत के पश्चिम तटीय राज्यों (महाराष्ट्र, गोवा एवं गुजरात) में श्रावण मास के अंतिम दिन नारियल पूर्णिमा मनायी जाती है।

6. श्रावण के पावन मास में शिव भक्तों के द्वारा कांवड़ यात्रा का आयोजन किया जाता है। इस दौरान लाखों शिव भक्त देवभूमि उत्तराखंड में स्थित शिवनगरी हरिद्वार और गंगोत्री धाम की यात्रा करते हैं। वे इन तीर्थ स्थलों से गंगा जल से भरी कांवड़ को अपने कंधों रखकर पैदल लाते हैं और बाद में वह गंगा जल शिव को चढ़ाया जाता है। सालाना होने वाली इस यात्रा में भाग लेने वाले श्रद्धालुओं को कांवरिया अथवा कांवड़िया कहा जाता है।

7.पौराणिक मान्यता के अनुसार कहा जाता है कि जब देवताओं और असुरों के बीच समुद्र मंथन हो रहा था तब उस मंथन से 14 रत्न निकले। उन चौदह रत्नों में से एक हलाहल विष भी था, जिससे सृष्टि नष्ट होने का भय था। तब सृष्टि की रक्षा के लिए भगवान शिव ने उस विष को पी लिया और उसे अपने गले से नीचे नहीं उतरने दिया। विष के प्रभाव से महादेव का कंठ नीला पड़ गया और इसी कारण उनका नाम नीलकंठ पड़ा। कहते हैं रावण शिव का सच्चा भक्त था। वह कांवर में गंगाजल लेकर आया और उसी जल से उसने शिवलिंग का अभिषेक किया और तब जाकर भगवान शिव को इस विष से मुक्ति मिली।

8. सावन के इस पवित्र महीने में भक्तों के द्वारा तीन प्रकार के व्रत रखे जाते हैं:

- सावन सोमवार व्रत : श्रावण मास में सोमवार के दिन जो व्रत रखा जाता है उसे सावन सोमवार व्रत कहा जाता है। सोमवार का दिन भी भगवान शिव को समर्पित है।

- सोलह सोमवार व्रत : सावन को पवित्र माह माना जाता है। इसलिए सोलह सोमवार के व्रत प्रारंभ करने के लिए यह बेहद ही शुभ समय माना जाता है।

- प्रदोष व्रत : सावन में भगवान शिव एवं मां पार्वती का आशीर्वाद पाने के लिए प्रदोष व्रत प्रदोष काल तक रखा जाता है।

9 . सावन का ज्योतिष महत्व यह है कि श्रावण मास के प्रारंभ में सूर्य राशि परिवर्तन करते हैं। सूर्य का गोचर सभी 12 राशियों को प्रभावित करता है।
