महाशिवरात्रि 2022: शिव मंदिर में लोग शिवलिंग के दर्शन और पूजा करने के बाद वहां शिवजी के सामने विराजित भगवान नंदी की मूर्ति के दर्शन कर उनकी पूजा करते हैं और अंत में उनके कान में अपनी मनोकामना बोलते हैं। आखिर उनके कान में मनोकामना बोलने की परंपरा क्यों है? आओ जानते हैं इस संबंध में पौराणिक कथा।
नंदी बैल : भगवान शिव के प्रमुख गणों में से एक है नंदी। भैरव, वीरभद्र, मणिभद्र, चंदिस, श्रृंगी, भृगिरिटी, शैल, गोकर्ण, घंटाकर्ण, जय और विजय भी शिव के गण हैं। माना जाता है कि प्राचीनकालीन किताब कामशास्त्र, धर्मशास्त्र, अर्थशास्त्र और मोक्षशास्त्र में से कामशास्त्र के रचनाकार नंदी ही थे। बैल को महिष भी कहते हैं जिसके चलते भगवान शंकर का नाम महेश भी है।
शिवजी के सामने नंदी क्यों हैं विराजित : शिलाद मुनि ने ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करने का संकल्प लिया। इससे वंश समाप्त होता देखकर उनके पितर चिंतित हो गए और उन्होंने शिलाद को वंश आगे बढ़ाने के लिए कहा। तब उन्होंने संतान की कामना के लिए इंद्रदेव को तप से प्रसन्न कर जन्म और मृत्यु के बंधन से हीन पुत्र का वरदान मांगा। परंतु इंद्र ने यह वरदान देने में असर्मथता प्रकट की और भगवान शिव का तप करने के लिए कहा। भगवान शंकर ने शिलाद मुनि के कठोर तपस्या से प्रसन्न होकर स्वयं शिलाद के पुत्र रूप में प्रकट होने का वरदान दिया। कुछ समय बाद भूमि जोतते समय शिलाद को एक बालक मिला, जिसका नाम उन्होंने नंदी रखा।
शिलाद ऋषि ने अपने पुत्र नंदी को संपूर्ण वेदों का ज्ञान प्रदान किया। एक दिन शिलाद ऋषि के आश्रम में मित्र और वरुण नाम के दो दिव्य ऋषि पधारे। नंदी ने अपने पिता की आज्ञा से उन ऋषियों की उन्होंने अच्छे से सेवा की। जब ऋषि जाने लगे तो उन्होंने शिलाद ऋषि को तो लंबी उम्र और खुशहाल जीवन का आशीर्वाद दिया लेकिन नंदी को नहीं।

तब शिलाद ऋषि ने उनसे पूछा कि उन्होंने नंदी को आशीर्वाद क्यों नहीं दिया? इस पर ऋषियों ने कहा कि नंदी अल्पायु है। यह सुनकर शिलाद ऋषि चिंतित हो गए। पिता की चिंता को नंदी ने जानकर पूछा क्या बात है पिताजी। तब पिता ने कहा कि तुम्हारी अल्पायु के बारे में ऋषि कह गए हैं इसीलिए मैं चिंतित हूं। यह सुनकर नंदी हंसने लगा और कहने लगा कि आपने मुझे भगवान शिव की कृपा से पाया है तो मेरी उम्र की रक्षा भी वहीं करेंगे आप क्यों नाहक चिंता करते हैं।
इतना कहते ही नंदी भुवन नदी के किनारे शिव की तपस्या करने के लिए चले गए। कठोर तप के बाद शिवजी प्रकट हुए और कहा वरदान मांगों वत्स। तब नंदी के कहा कि मैं उम्रभर आपके सानिध्य में रहना चाहता हूं। नंदी के समर्पण से प्रसन्न होकर भगवान शिव ने नंदी को पहले अपने गले लगाया और उन्हें बैल का चेहरा देकर उन्हें अपने वाहन, अपना दोस्त, अपने गणों में सर्वोत्तम के रूप में स्वीकार कर लिया।
