भारत के बहार हिन्दू धर्म से जुड़े कई प्राचीन मंदिर मिल जाएंगे जिसमें से खासकर इंडोनेशिया, जावा, सुमात्रा, थाईलैंड और कंबोडिया में बहुत सारे मंदिर आज भी विद्यमान में उन्हीं में से दो विशालकाय मंदिरों के बारे में संक्षिप्त जानकारी।
अंकोरवाट का हिन्दू मंदिर : कम्बोडिया के अंकोरवाट में एक विशालकाय हिन्दू मंदिर है जो भगवान विष्णु को समर्पित है। इसे पहले अंकोरयोम और उससे पहले यशोधपुर कहा जाता था। प्राचीन लेखों में कम्बोडिया को कम्बुज कहा गया है।
अंकोरवाट का निर्माण कम्बुज के राजा सूर्यवर्मा द्वितीय (1049-66 ई.) ने कराया था और यह मन्दिर विष्णु को समर्पित है। अंकोरवाट जयवर्मा द्वितीय के शासनकाल (1181-1205 ई.) में कम्बोडिया की राजधानी था। यह अपने समय में संसार के महान नगरों में गिना जाता था।

यह हिन्दुओं का सबसे विशाल मंदिर है, जिसका वास्तु देखते ही बनता है। मंदिर के मध्यवर्ती शिखर की ऊंचाई भूमितल से 213 फुट है। इसके बाद जगन्नाथ मंदिर को सबसे ऊंचा मंदिर माना जाता है।
एक ऊंचे चबूतरे पर स्थित इस मंदिर के तीन खण्ड हैं। प्रत्येक खण्ड से ऊपर के खण्ड तक पहुँचने के लिए सीढ़ियां हैं। प्रत्येक खण्ड में आठ गुम्बज हैं, जिनमें से प्रत्येक 180 फुट ऊंचा है। मुख्य मन्दिर तीसरे खण्ड की चौड़ी छत पर है। उसका शिखर 213 फुट ऊंचा है। दुनिया का सबसे विशालकाय मंदिर यही है जिसकी भव्यता देखते ही बनती है।
मन्दिर के चारों ओर पत्थर की दीवार का घेरा है जो पूर्व से पश्चिम की ओर दो-तिहाई मील और उत्तर से दक्षिण की ओर आधे मील लम्बा है। इस दीवार के बाद 700 फुट चौड़ी खाई है, जिस पर एक स्थान पर 36 फुट चौड़ा पुल है। इस पुल से पक्की सड़क मंदिर के पहले खण्ड द्वार तक चली गई है।
प्रंबनन मंदिर (मध्य जावा इंडोनेशिया) : इंडोनेशिया के सेंट्रल जावा में स्थित यह एक हिन्दू मंदिर है। प्राचीनकाल में इंडोनेशिया का राजधर्म हिन्दू और उसके बाद बौद्ध हुआ करता था। लेकिन इस्लाम के उदय के बाद अब यह मुस्लिम राष्ट्र है। ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और शिवजी को समर्पित इस मंदिर को मान्यता अनुसार 9वीं शताब्दी में बनाया गया था। मंदिर की दीवारों पर धार्मिक कहानियां और शानदार नक्काशी उकेरी गई हैं।
