Manikarnika Ghat Snan Mahatva : प्रतिवर्ष कार्तिक शुक्ल की चतुर्दशी अर्थात बैकुंठ चतुर्दशी के दिन वाराणसी के मणिकर्णिका घाट पर स्नान किया जाता है। यहां स्नान करने का बहुत महत्व है। इस वर्ष 2021 में यह स्नान 18 नवंबर को किया जाएगा।
1. पापों से मिलती है मुक्ति : इस दिन घाट पर स्नान करने से हर तरह के पापों से मुक्ति मिल जाती। यह घाट काशी में स्थित हैं इसमें स्नान से मनुष्य के पापो का नाश होता हैं कार्तिक में इसके स्नान का सर्वाधिक महत्व हैं।
2. श्मशान घाट : गंगा नदी के तट पर यह एक शमशान घाट है जिसे तीर्थ की उपाधी प्राप्त है। कहते हैं यहां कि चिता की आग कभी शांत नहीं होती है। हर रोज यहां 300 से ज्यादा शवों को जलाया जाता है। यहां पर जिसकी भी अंतिम संस्कार होता है उसको सीधे मोक्ष मिलता है। इस घाट में 3000 साल से भी ज्यादा समय से ये कार्य होते आ रहा है।
3. वैश्याओं का नृत्य : मणिकर्णिका घाट में चैत्र नवरात्री की अष्टमी के दिन वैश्याओं का विशेष नृत्य का कार्यक्रम होता है। कहते हैं कि ऐसा करने से उन्हें इस तरह के जीवन से मुक्ति मिलती है, साथ ही उन्हें इस बात का उम्मीद भी होता है कि अगले जन्म में वे वैश्या नहीं बनेंगी।
4. चिता की राख से होली : मणिकर्णिका घाट में फाल्गुन माह की एकादशी के दिन चिता की राख से होली खेली जाती है। कहते हैं, इस दिन शिव के रूप विश्वनाथन बाबा, अपनी पत्नी पार्वती जी का गौना कराकर अपने देश लोटे थे। इनकी डोली जब यहां से गुजरती है तो इस घाट के पास के सभी अघोरी बाबा लोग नाच गाने, रंगों से इनका स्वागत करते है
5. शक्तिपीठ है यहां पर : कहते हैं कि यहां पर माता सती के कान का कुंडल गिरे थे इसीलिए इसका नाम मणिकर्णिका है। यहां पर माता का शक्तिपीठ भी स्थापित है।

6. प्राचीन कुंड : यह भी कहा जाता है कि एकक समय भगवान शिव हजारों वर्षों से योग निंद्रा में थे, तब विष्णु जी ने अपने चक्र से एक कुंड को बनाया था जहां भगवान शिव ने तपस्या से उठने के बाद स्नान किया था और उस स्थान पर उनके कान का कुंडल खो गया था जो आज तक नहीं मिला। तब ही से उस कुंड का नाम मणिकर्णिका घाट पड़ गया। काशी खंड के अनुसार गंगा अवतरण से पहले इसका अस्तित्व है।
7. श्री हरि विष्णु ने किया था पहला स्नान : कहते हैं कि मणिकर्णिका घाट पर भगवान विष्णु ने सबसे पहले स्नान किया। इसीलिए वैकुंठ चौदस की रात के तीसरे प्रहर यहां पर स्नान करने से मुक्ति प्राप्त होती है। यहां पर विष्णु जी ने शिवजी की तपस्या करने के बाद एक कुंड बनाया था।
8. कुंड से निकली प्रतिमा : प्राचीन काल में मां मणिकर्णिका की अष्टधातु की प्रतिमा इसी कुंड से निकली थी। कहते हैं कि यह प्रतिमा वर्षभर ब्रह्मनाल स्थित मंदिर में विराजमान रहती है परंतु अक्षय तृतीया को सवारी निकालकर पूजन-दर्शन के लिए प्रतिमा कुंड में स्थित 10 फीट ऊंचे पीतल के आसन पर विराजमान कराई जाती है। इस दौरान कुंड का जल सिद्ध हो जाता है जहां स्नान करने से मुक्ति मिलती है।
9. माता सती का अंतिम संस्कार : यह भी कहा जाता है कि भगवान् भोलेनाथ जी द्वारा यही पर माता सती जी का अंतिम संस्कार किया था। इसी कारण यह घाट महाश्मशान घाट प्रसिद्ध है।
10. शव से पूछते हैं कि कहां है कुंडल : यहां पर शव से पूछते हैं- 'क्या उसने शिव के कान का कुंडल देखा''। ऐसा भी कहा जाता है कि जब भी यहां जिसका दाह संस्कार किया जाता है अग्निदाह से पूर्व उससे पूछा जाता है, क्या उसने भगवान शिव के कान का कुंडल देखा। यहां भगवान शिव अपने औघढ़ स्वरूप में सैदव ही निवास करते हैं।
