केरल में बारिश से भारी तबाही हुई है। बारिश ने पिछले 100 सालों का रिकॉर्ड तोड़ दिया है। भगवान के इस देश में इन्द्र का 'कोप' जारी है। केरल में भारी बारिश और बाढ़ से अब तक करीब 324 लोगों की जान जा चुकी है। मुख्यमंत्री पिनराई विजयन का कहना है कि 'बीते 100 वर्षों में केरल ने ऐसी तबाही नहीं देखी है। खबरों के मुताबिक 94 साल पहले केरल में बाढ़ और बारिश से भयंकर तबाही हुई थी। कुछ दशकों तक तो केरल में बाढ़ की खबर सुनी तक नहीं गई होगी। आखिर क्यों हो रही है इतनी बारिश क्या है इसका कारण।
अमूमन केरल में दक्षिण पश्चिमी मानसून सामान्य बारिश करके आगे बढ़ जाता था, लेकिन इस बार मानसूनी बादल जरूरत से ज्यादा बारिश बरसा रहे हैं। राज्य में हर तरफ पानी ही पानी नजर आ रहा है। राज्य के 80 प्रतिशत इलाकों में जलप्लावन वाली स्थिति आ गई है।
केरल में जितनी बारिश जून से लेकर सितंबर तक होती है, उससे करीब 37 प्रतिशत ज्यादा बारिश अगस्त के दूसरे हफ्ते तक हो चुकी है। इडुक्की तो ऐसा जिला है, जहां अब तक 84 प्रतिशत से ज्यादा बारिश हो चुकी है। आखिर इस बार ऐसा क्या हो गया है कि मानसून बादल इतनी बारिश कर रहे हैं।

ये हवाएं करती हैं केरल में बारिश : जून से सितंबर के दौरान अरब सागर बनने वालीं दक्षिण पश्चिमी हवाएं ये हवाई और केरल से देश में प्रवेश करती हैं। अक्टूबर से दिसंबर के दौरान उत्तरी-पूर्वी वे मानसूनी हवाएं हैं, जो सितंबर के बाद उत्तर से वापस लौटती हैं और बारिश करती हैं। केरल से देश में प्रवेश करने वाली मानसूनी हवाएं केरल में सामान्य बारिश करती रही हैं। ये हवाएं केरल में हल्की-फुल्की या सामान्य बारिश करके आगे बढ़ जाती हैं, लेकिन इस बार ऐसा नहीं हुआ।
अरब सागर में बनने वाली मानसूनी हवाएं जून के मध्य या आखिर तक केरल के तटीय इलाकों को छूती हैं, वहां मानसूनी सीजन की पहली बारिश करती हैं और फिर आगे बढ़ जाती हैं। केरल के उत्तरी और दक्षिणी इलाकों में दक्षिण पश्चिमी मानसून ही बारिश करता है।
स्काईमेट के एक वैज्ञानिक के अनुसार केरल इस बार काफी बड़े एरिया में चक्रवाती सर्कुलेशन की स्थिति बनी हुई थी। फिर बंगाल और आसपास के क्षेत्रों में कम दबाव का क्षेत्र होने से मानसूनी हवाएं बजाय आगे बढ़ने से केरल में रुक रही थीं और वहां बारिश कर रही थीं। साथ ही कर्नाटक और केरल में समुद्रीय ज्वार-भाटे की स्थिति ने इसे और बढ़ाने का काम किया। लिहाजा केरल में इतनी ज्यादा बारिश हुई, पिछले कुछ सालों में नहीं देखी गई थी।
