मकर संक्रांति के पूर्व संध्या पर लोहड़ी उत्सव मनाया जाता है। लोहड़ी उत्सव पौष महीने की आखरी रात को मनाया जाता है। इसके अगले दिन माघ महीने की सक्रांति को माघी के रूप में मनाया जाता है। पंजाबी और हरिवाणवी संस्कृति में लोहड़ी का खासा महत्व है। इस बार यह त्योहार इसलिए खास है क्योंकि पंजाब में चुनाव होने वाले हैं और राजनीति गरम है। लोहड़ी की आंग में तिल, गुड़ और मेवे डालने की परंपरा है। आओ जानते हैं लोहड़ी के दिलचस्प तथ्य।
1. लोहड़ी का अर्थ : लोहड़ी को पहले तिलोड़ी कहा जाता था। यह शब्द तिल तथा रोड़ी (गुड़ की रोड़ी) शब्दों के मेल से बना है, जो समय के साथ बदल कर लोहड़ी के रूप में प्रसिद्ध हो गया। पंजाब के कई इलाकों में इसे लोही या लोई भी कहा जाता है। लोहड़ी का शाब्दिक अर्थ : ल अर्थात लकड़ी, ओह या गोहा अर्थात सूखे उपले, ड़ी अर्थात रेवड़ी = लोहड़ी। लोहड़ी में लकड़ी, सूखे उपले और रेवड़ी को आग में डाला जाता है। रेवड़ी को खाया भी जाता है।
2. अग्नि उत्सव : लोहड़ी की संध्या को लोग लकड़ी जलाकर अग्नि के चारों ओर चक्कर काटते हुए नाचते-गाते हैं और आग में तिल, गुड़, रेवड़ी, मूंगफली, खील, मक्की के दानों की आहुति देते हैं। अग्नि की परिक्रमा करते और आग के चारों ओर बैठकर लोग आग सेंकते हैं। इस दौरान रेवड़ी, खील, गज्जक, मक्का खाने का आनंद लेते हैं। ईरान में भी नववर्ष का त्योहार इसी तरह मनाते हैं। आग जलाकर मेवे अर्पित किए जाते हैं। लोहड़ी और ईरान का चहार-शंबे सूरी बिल्कुल एक जैसे त्योहार हैं। इसे ईरानी पारसियों या प्राचीन ईरान का उत्सव मानते हैं।

3. ऐसे मनाते हैं लोहड़ी उत्सव :
- गांवों में पौष मास के पूर्व से ही लड़के-लड़कियां लोहड़ी के लोकगीत गाकर लकड़ी और उपले एकत्रित करते हैं। इसी से मुहल्ले के किसी खुले स्थान पर आग जलाई जाती है।
- सभी लोग अपने अपने काम से निपटकर अग्नि की परिक्रमा करते हैं और अग्नि को रेवड़ी अर्पित करते हैं। बाद में प्रसाद के रूप में सभी उपस्थित लोगों को रेवड़ी बांटी जाती हैं। घर लौटते समय लोहड़ी में से 2-4 दहकते कोयले, प्रसाद के रूप में, घर पर लाने की प्रथा भी है।
- नव विवाहित लड़के या जिन्हें पुत्र होता है उनके घर से पैसे लेकर अपने क्षेत्र में रेवड़ी बांटते हैं ये काम बच्चे करते हैं। लोहड़ी के दिन या उससे कुछ दिन पूर्व बालक बालिकाएं मोहमाया या महामाई का चंदा मांगते हैं, इनसे लकड़ी एवं रेवड़ी खरीदकर सामूहिक लोहड़ी में उपयोग में लाते हैं।
- कहते हैं कि कुछ लड़के दूसरे मुहल्लों में जाकर 'लोहड़ी' से जलती हुई लकड़ी उठाकर अपने मुहल्ले की लोहड़ी में डाल देते हैं। इसे 'लोहड़ी व्याहना' कहलाता है। कई बार इस कार्य में छीना झपटी और झगड़े भी होते हैं।
- लोहड़ी के दिन विशेष पकवान बनते हैं जिसमें गजक, रेवड़ी, मुंगफली, तिल-गुड़ के लड्डू, मक्का की रोटी और सरसों का साग प्रमुख होते हैं। लोहड़ी से कुछ दिन पहले से ही छोटे बच्चे लोहड़ी के गीत गाकर लोहड़ी हेतु लकड़ियां, मेवे, रेवडियां, मूंगफली इकट्ठा करने लग जाते हैं।
लोहड़ी मनाने के 4 कारण :
- कहा जाता है कि संत कबीर की पत्नी लोई की याद में यह पर्व मनाया जाता है।
- वैसाखी त्योहार की तरह लोहड़ी का सबंध भी पंजाब के गांव, फसल और मौसम से है। इस दिन से मूली और गन्ने की फसल बोई जाती है। इससे पहले रबी की फसल काटकर घर में रख ली जाती है। खेतों में सरसों के फूल लहराते दिखाई देते हैं।
- लोहड़ी का त्योहार दुल्ला भट्टी से भी जुड़ा हुआ है। कहते हैं कि अकबर के काल में पंजाब की लड़कियों को संदर बार में बल पूर्वक गुलामी के लिए अमीर मुस्लिम लोगों को बेच जाता था। जब ये बात दुल्ला भाट्टी को पता चलती तो उसने एक योजना के तहत सभी लड़कियों को केवल मुक्त करवाया बल्कि उनका विवाह भी हिन्दू लड़कों से करवाया। दल बार पकिस्तान में स्थित हैं। यह भी मान्यता है कि सुंदरी एवं मुंदरी नाम की लड़कियों को राजा से बचाकर दुल्ला भट्टी ने किसी अच्छे लड़कों से उनकी शादी करवा दी थी।
- पौराणिक मान्यता अनुसार सती के त्याग के रूप में यह त्योहार मनाया जाता है। कथानुसार जब प्रजापति दक्ष के यज्ञ की आग में कूदकर शिव की पत्नीं सती ने आत्मदाह कर लिया था। उसी दिन की याद में यह पर्व मनाया जाता है। उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्वांचल में 'खिचड़वार' और दक्षिण भारत के 'पोंगल' पर भी-जो 'लोहड़ी' के समीप ही मनाए जाते हैं-बेटियों को भेंट जाती है। इस दिन बड़े प्रेम से बहन और बेटियों को घर बुलाया जाता है। साथ ही जिस घर में नई शादी हुई हो या बच्चा हुआ हो उन्हें विशेष तौर पर बधाई दी जाती है। प्राय: घर में नव वधू या बच्चे की पहली लोहड़ी बहुत विशेष होती है।
