मुना मुहम्मद को छोटी से छोटी हर बात याद है। कोठरी की दुर्गंध, पीड़ा और उन पर हुए जुल्म। 30 साल की मुना ने कहा, "उसने एक काले रंग का प्लास्टिक का झोला मेरे सिर पर बांध दिया और मुझे पैरों से बांध कर छत से उल्टा लटका दिया।" उन दिनों की यादें उन्हें अब भी तकलीफ देती हैं। मुना ने बताया कि गार्ड ने उनसे कहा कि उन्हें तब तक लटकाया जाएगा, "जब तक कि उनके बुरे विचार उस झोले में नहीं आ जाते।"
गिरफ्तार होने से पहले मुना संगीत सिखाती थीं। 2012 में दियर एजोर में राष्ट्रपति असद के खिलाफ एक विरोध प्रदर्शन में हिस्सा लिया था। उन्हें कुछ दिन बाद छोड़ दिया गया लेकिन बाद में दोबारा गिरफ्तार कर दमिश्क की कुख्यात "सीरियन मिलिट्री इंटेलिजेंस ब्रांच 215" ले जाया गया। हर रोज यहां मिलने वाली प्रताड़ना के कारण कैदी इसे "जहन्नुम की शाखा" कहते हैं।
एक दिन उन्हें प्रताड़ित करने वाला शख्स शॉक देने वाली मशीन लेकर आया। मुना याद करती हैं, "उसने कहा, तुम्हारा दिल कहां हैं? मैंने अपने दिल की ओर इशारा किया और उसने वहां प्रहार किया।" कई महीनों तक मुना या तो अकेले या फिर दूसरे कैदियों के साथ बंद रहीं। मुना बताती हैं, "एक दिन वो 16 साल की लड़की से पूछताछ कर रहे थे, मैंने उसकी चीखें सुनी, वो इतनी तेज थीं कि मुझे लगा कि उन्होंने उसे मार दिया।" मुना के मुताबिक कई महिलाओं का यौन शोषण भी हुआ उन्हें भी जुर्म कबूल नहीं करने की स्थिति में बलात्कार की धमकी दी गई थी।
जेल में साफ सफाई की स्थिति बेहद खराब थी। मुना बताती हैं कि कैदियों को शौचालय या फिर स्नानघर भी हमेशा इस्तेमाल करने नहीं दिया जाता था। वहां बच्चे भी थे। मुना ने कहा, "मुझे याद है कि एक मां और उसकी बेटी थी। कोठरी इतनी अंधेरी और छोटी थी कि बच्ची हमेशा रोती रहती थी, वह दिन का उजाला देखने की उम्मीद में हमेशा दरवाजे के नीचे से झांकती रहती थी।"

मुना को आखिरकार माफी मिल गई और उन्हें रिहा कर दिया गया। 2016 में वह तुर्की भागने में कामयाब हो गई वो आज भी वहीं रहती हैं। गाजियानतेप नाम के इस शहर में 5 लाख से ज्यादा सीरियाई लोग रहते हैं।
कोई नहीं जानता कि कितनी महिलाओं को सीरिया में कैद किया गया है। सीरियाई जंग में मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन का दस्तावेज बनाने वाले एक गैरसरकारी संगठन के प्रमुख फदेल अब्दुल गनी यह संख्या "7000 से ज्यादा" बताते हैं।
गनी के पास हथियारबंद गुटों के आंकड़े हैं जो दिखाते हैं कि ज्यादातर गुट महिलाओं के खिलाफ हिंसा में शामिल हैं और सीरियाई सरकार इस सूची में सबसे ऊपर है। महिलाओं को जान बूझ कर निशाना बनाया जाता है क्योंकि वे हमेशा सरकार के खिलाफ विरोध में अहम भूमिका निभाती हैं। गनी की दलील है कि सरकार महिलाओं की यातना और यौन हिंसा को युद्ध की रणनीति के तौर पर इस्तेमाल करती है। गनी कहते हैं, "महिलाओं को तोड़ दो तो परिवार टूट जाएगा और इस तरह समाज में विरोध खत्म होगा। यही लक्ष्य है।"
बीते साल एमनेस्टी इंटरनेशनल ने खबर दी कि 2011 से 2017 तक 17000 लोगों की प्रताड़ना, बुरे बर्ताव और जेल की भयानक स्थिति के कारण मौत हो गई। ये जेलें सीरिया की सरकार और वहां की खुफिया एजेंसियां चला रही हैं। मानवाधिकार संस्था एमनेस्टी के मुताबिक 13000 से ज्यादा लोगों को दमिश्क की कुख्यात साइदानाया सैन्य जेल में फांसी दी गई है। राष्ट्रपति असद ने इस रिपोर्ट को "फेक न्यूज" कह कर खारिज कर दिया। यह रिपोर्ट पूर्व कैदियों के बयान को आधार बना कर तैयार की गई।
मुना चाहती हैं कि सीरियाई जेलों में क्या हो रहा है यह लोगों को पता चले। प्रताड़ना में अपमानित करना शी शामिल है। उन्होंने उस घटना को याद किया "जब गार्ड ने आदमी से उसके पेशे के बारे में पूछा। उस आदमी ने जवाब दिया डॉक्टर तो गार्ड ने उसे एक पैर पर खड़ा हो कर 'मैं खरगोश हूं' कहने के लिए कहा। जब डॉक्टर ने धीमे से यह कहा तो उसकी पिटाई हुई और फिर उसे बार बार चीख कर ये कहने का हुक्म मिला।"
मुना ने अपनी कहनी लिखी है और वो दूसरी पीड़ितों की भी दास्तान इकट्ठा कर रही हैं। उन्होंने सीरियाई महिलाओं की मदद के लिए एक गुट भी बनाया है जिसका नाम है "क्योर प्रोजेक्ट।" वो बताती हैं, "जेल में उन्होंने जो झेला कुछ औरतें उसके बारे में बात नहीं करना चाहतीं और कुछ उसे बयान करते करते रोने लगती हैं।" मुना इन लोगों को आवाज देना चाहती है।
