मध्यप्रदेश और छत्तीसगढ़ के आदिवासियों में होली की खासी धूम होती है। मध्यप्रदेश में झाबुआ के आदिवासी क्षेत्रों में भगोरिया नाम से होलिकात्वस मनाया जाता है। भगोरिया के समय धार, झाबुआ, खरगोन, आलीराजपुर, करड़ावद आदि कई क्षेत्रों के हाट-बाजार मेले का रूप ले लेते हैं और हर तरफ फागुन और प्यार का रंग बिखरा नजर आता है। देश-विदेश से लोग यहां की होली को देखने आते हैं।
इस दौरान ग्रामीणजन ढोल-मांदल एवं बांसुरी बजाते हुए ताड़ी पीते और मस्ती में झूमते हैं। व्यापारी अपने-अपने तरीके से खाने की चीजें- गुड़ की जलेबी, भजिये, खारिये (सेंव), पान, कुल्फी, केले, ताड़ी बेचते, साथ ही झूले वाले, गोदना (टैटू) वाले अपने व्यवसाय करने में जुट जाते हैं।
जीप, छोटे ट्रक, दुपहिया वाहन, बैलगाड़ी पर दूरस्थ गांव के रहने वाले लोग इस हाट में सज-धज के जाते हैं। कई नौजवान युवक-युवतियां झुंड बनाकर पैदल भी जाते हैं। भगोरिया पर्व का बड़े-बूढ़े सभी आनंद लेते हैं।
हाट में जगह-जगह भगोरिया नृत्य में ढोल की थाप, बांसुरी, घुंघरुओं की ध्वनियां सुनाई देती है तो बहुत ही मनमोहक दृश्य निर्मित कर देती है। बड़ा ढोल विशेष रूप से तैयार किया जाता है, जिसमें एक तरफ आटा लगाया जाता है। ढोल वजन में काफी भारी और बड़ा होता है। जिसे इसे बजाने में महारत हासिल हो वही नृत्य घेरे के मध्य में खड़ा होकर इसे बजाता है।

एक से रंग की वेश-भूषा में युवक-युवतियां नजर आते हैं। इस दौरान कई युवक-युवतियां को रिश्ता भी तय हो जाता है। युवतियां नख से शिख तक पहने जाने वाले चांदी के आभूषण, पावों में घुंघरू, हाथों में रंगीन रुमाल लिए गोल घेरा बनाकर मांदल व ढोल, बांसुरी की धुन पर बेहद सुंदर नृत्य करती हैं। लोक संस्कृति के पारंपरिक लोकगीतों से माहौल में लोक संस्कृति का एक बेहतर वातावरण बनता जाता है साथ ही प्रकृति और संस्कृति का संगम हरे-भरे पेड़ों से निखर जाता है।
भगोरिया उत्सव को देखने के लिए देश ही नहीं अपितु विदेशों से लोग आते हैं जो कई क्षेत्रों में चिलमिलाती गर्मी और चूभती ठंड में घुमते रहते हैं। यह ऐसा मौसम होता है जबकि छाव में ठंड और धूप में गर्मी लगती है। आजकल इन विदेशियों के रहने और ठहरने के लिए प्रशासन द्वारा केम्प की व्यवस्था भी की जाने लगी है। अब तो इस उत्सव में सीसीटीवी कैमरे से नजर रखी जाने लगी है।
