उन्होंने कहा, कि दुनिया का सबसे बेहतरीन उपन्यास पढ़कर अच्छा उपन्यास नहीं लिखा जा सकता। आप तो रेसिपी पढ़िए, राजनीति पढ़िए, समाज शास्त्र पढ़िए। मैंने उपनिषद पढ़ा। मैंने नास्तिकवाद को पढ़ा, जैन को पढ़ा। बुद्ध को पढ़ा। पश्चिम में लितसे को पढ़ा।
मैंने औघड़ किताब गांव में रहते हुए लिखी है। दरसअल मौलिकता खत्म हो जा रही है। मेरी यात्रा की सबसे अहम बात यह है कि अगर आपको लेखक बनना है तो हमको पढ़ने के बाद भूगोल, इतिहास, समाज शास्त्र पढ़िए।
आपका कहन मायने रखता है। आपकी शैली मायने रखती है। किसी को दोहराइये नहीं। खुद का मौलिक लिखिए। बस यही मेरे लेखक बनने की यात्रा है।
मुझ पर आरोप लगते हैं कि मैं गायक बनना चाहता था, इसलिए अब अपनी किताबों के जरिये गाने के शौक पूरा कर रहा हूँ। ऐसा नहीं है मैं ज़िंदगी की रुचि पूरी कर रहा हूँ।
अंत में उन्होंने जगत माटी का ढेला रे गीत सुनाया। बता दें कि इस साल नीलोत्पल मृणाल की एक नई किताब यार जादूगर आयी है। वे युवाओं में बेहद लोकप्रिय हैं।
