कोयल की तान सुनने का सुख हमें चैत्र, बसंत से लेकर बैसाख तक ही मिलता है। ईश्वर के बनाए इन मौसमों से इतर हम अपना बसंत रच सकते हैं।

हमारे इस सौभाग्य से ईश्वर को भी ईर्ष्या हो सकती है। क्योंकि हमें बारहों महीने बासंती आल्हाद से भरती रही है स्वरकोकिला लता मंगेशकर की अनुपमेय आवाज।

आज जब उनके न रहने की खबर मिली तब लगा वह तो हमेशा हमारे साथ हैं सशरीर नहीं बल्कि जीवन की प्राणवायु बनकर।

लता यानी वल्लरी, बेल, जिसका नैसर्गिक गुण है सहारा लेकर ऊपर चढ़ना। लेकिन आगे बढ़ने के लिए लताजी ने कोई सहारा नहीं तलाशा, बल्कि उनकी पारलौकिक आवाज दुखी और व्यथित आत्मा को सहारा देती है। और जीने के कई बहाने मयस्सर कराती है।

यदि हम भारत में जन्मे हैं तो हमारा मुकद्दस फर्ज है कि हम लताजी को सुनें। पर अगर हम देवास या इंदौर से ताल्लुक रखते हैं तो हम पर कर्ज है जिससे उऋण होने के लिए लताजी को समग्रता में सुनना बेहद जरूरी है। लताजी का रिश्ता इंदौर (जन्म- सिख मोहल्ला) और देवास (अमानत खान सा. देवास वालों से संगीत के शुरुआती सबक लिए) से नजदीक का रहा है। इसलिए मुझ जैसे और भी कई सौभाग्यशाली होंगे जो इन शहरों से जुड़े हैं और उन गलियों में सजदा करना चाहेंगे जिनसे लताजी का ताल्लुक रहा है।

अब जब लताजी सशरीर हमारे बीच नहीं हैं तब यह कह सकते हैं कि उनका मकाम इबारतों से बाहर, पैमानों के परे और आंकड़ों से दूर है। अपनी आवाज की खुशबू बिखेरते-बिखेरते वो खुद इत्र की महकती शीशी बन चुकी। (1999 में लता यूडी परफ्यूम भी बाजार में आ चुका है)

जब बिन बारिश मन भीगने लगे, धूप मीठी लगने लगे और फिजा में लोबान घुलने लगे तो समझो कहीं लता गा रही हैं।गौरतलब है कि लताजी की आवाज 'बहुत पतली' कहकर खारिज कर दी गई थी। लेकिन आने वाले समय में उनकी खूबसूरत बंदिशों में उनकी आवाज और शख्सियत का वजन साबित हो ही गया (फिल्म 'लेकिन' में 'सुनियो जी अरज' सुनिए और लताजी की दिव्य गायकी का आनंद उठाइए)।

बेशक उन्हें आला दर्जे के संगीतकार और गीतकार मिले लेकिन डूबकर गाने की कला में वे बेजोड़ थीं। यूं तो उन्होंने हजारों खूबसूरत-सुरीले गीतों की सौगात हमें दी है। आएगा आने वाला, अजीब दास्तां, ऐ मेरे वतन के लोगों से लेकर सिलसिला, वारिस, लेकिन, दिल तो पागल है और पिछले दिनों आई फिल्म 'वीर-जारा' तक कई कर्णप्रिय (लोकप्रिय) गीत हमारे लिए गाए हैं। पर यहां जिक्र है उस गीत का जिसकी प्रशंसा में शब्दकोश कंगाल लगने लगता है।

इस एकमात्र गीत के प्रेम और लताजी के सम्मान में हम अपनी सारी सदाकत सुबहें न्यौछावर करने को तैयार हैं। 'ज्योति कलश छलके' (मीना कुमारी-भाभी की चूड़ियां) गीत को रात दो बजे भी सुनें तो लगता है बिस्तर छोड़ो और ईश्वर में ध्यान लगाकर बैठ जाओ। चाहे ब्रह्म मुहूर्त में पूजा न कर पाएं, पर खुले आकाश तले आंखें मूंदकर कुछ क्षण बैठें और इस पवित्र रचना को सुनकर खुद को पावन करें।

लता जी की आवाज़ का जादू ही ऐसा है,दिल से गाती हैं,दिल तक पहुंचती हैं इसीलिए दिल में बसी हैं हमारे।

मेरे दिन की शुरुआत होती है उठा उठा हो सकलिक सुनते हुए जो लता जी का मराठी में गाया हुआ मधुरतम प्रातः गीत है, इसके बाद ज्योति कलश छलके और फिर अनगिनत सुरीले खनक दार कर्णप्रिय गीतों की माला।

हर भाषा लहजे और मूड को आत्मसात करते हुए भजन, गीत, लोरी, ग़ज़ल सभी कुछ उनके गले से सरलता और तरलता से निकलता रहा और हमारी आत्मा शहद के सरोवर में गोते लगाती रही। बसंत पंचमी पर सरस्वती पूजन की हमारी परंपरा है, संभवतः इसीलिए ईश्वर ने सुरों की देवी को अपने पास बुलाने के लिए बसंत ऋतु को चुना।
