एक वक्त आता है जब पेट की भूख मौत से भी ज्यादा बड़ी हो जाती है, जहां मौत का खौफ खत्म हो जाता है और पेट की पीड़ा उससे आगे निकल जाती है। भूख से मरने का भय सबसे बड़ा भय है। इसलिए कोई भूखा नहीं मरना चाहता। जो भूखा मर रहा है वो भी चाहता है कि पहले पेट भर जाए, उसके बाद भले मौत आ जाए।
ये वही दौर है जिसमें भूख मौत से बड़ी हो गई है। उसका कद और उसकी भयावहता पेट के दर्द के सामने छोटे हो गए हैं।
शायद इसीलिए जब पूरी दुनिया चारदीवारी में बंद है, ठीक उसी समय एक भूखा मजदूर सड़क पर अपनी रोटी के निवाले को तोड़ने में मशगुल है। उसके इस वक्त जिंदा रहने के लिए रोटी और उसमें मिला चुटकीभर नमक ज्यादा जरुरी है। क्योंकि भूख को उसने देखा है, भूख को वो जानता है और महसूस करता है, लेकिन मौत से अभी उसकी मुलाकात नहीं हुई।
कोरोना वायरस का संक्रमण काल चल रहा है। हजारों-लाखों मजदूर एक राज्य से दूसरे राज्य के लिए पलायन करने को मजबूर हैं। वे देख रहे हैं हजारों लोग इस वायरस से मौत के काल में समा रहे हैं। वे भी इसका शिकार हो सकते हैं, लेकिन कोरोना से पहले वे भूख से नहीं मरना चाहते। इसी भूख के लिए तो उन्होंने अपना घर छोड़ था गांव छोड़ा था। इसी भूख से लड़ने के लिए उन्होंने परदेश में पत्थर तोड़े, गड्डे खोदे। तो कोई मेहनतकश मजदूर भूख से क्यों मरे। मजदूर अपना पेट भरेगा। हजार किलोमीटर पैदल चलेगा। लेकिन भूख से नहीं मरेगा। अपना पेट भरेगा।

देश के सबसे स्वच्छ शहर इंदौर की सड़कों पर सांय-सांय करती अंधेरी और खामोश रातों की यह तस्वीरें यही कहानी कह रही है कि मौत बाद में आएगी, पहले भूख मिटाई जाए। या कम से कम भूख से न मरा जाए।
वेबदुनिया डॉट कॉम की टीम ने जब इंदौर की गर्म हवाओं और सन्नाटों वाली रातों में नाइटआउट किया तो यही कहानी निकलकर सामने आई कि भूख ने मौत पर जीत हासिल कर ली है।
सन्नाटे में एक ना-उम्मीदी के बीच दुनिया कब नॉर्मल होगी, कब हम पटरी पर लौटेंगे, कब बाजारों में लोगों का हुजूम नजर आएगा यह सबकुछ अनिश्चित था, जो निश्चित था वो थी भूख और नींद।
भूख और नींद। जीने के यह दो आयाम तो जिंदगी में हर रोज तय है। भूख रोजाना लगेगी और नींद रोज आएगी लेकिन, मौत किसने देखी कब आएगी। इसलिए पहले खा लिया जाए, जहां जगह मिले और जो खाने को मिले। जहां सोने को मिले।
जिंदगी में भूख और नींद शायद सबसे ज्यादा दारुण है, मौत से भी ज्यादा।
शायद यही कारण है कि कई देशों में भूख और नींद को युदृध नीति के तौर पर इस्तेमाल किया जाता था। दुश्मन सैनिकों के साथ की जा रही जंग लंबा खींचा जाता था, तब तक जब तक कि दुश्मन को भूख की आग और नींद की झपकी तकलीफ न देने लगे।
ऐसे कई उदाहरण है दुनिया में जब युद्ध के मैदान में लड़ने वालों ने अपनी मौत के पहले ही हथियार डाल दिए थे, क्योंकि वो मौत को सहन कर सकते थे लेकिन पेट की आग और जागती आंखों को नहीं।
