कहां से आए आपके अपने नटखट सांता क्लॉज?

हो..हो..हो.. कहते हुए लाल-सफेद कपड़ों में बड़ी-सी श्वेत दाढ़ी और बालों वाले, कंधे पर गिफ्ट्स से भरा बड़ा-सा बैग लटकाए, हाथों में क्रिसमस बेल लिए सांता को तो आप जरूर जानते होंगे। क्रिसमस पर आप इनसे मिले भी होंगे या फिर टीवी अखबारों में इन्हें देखा होगा। बच्चों के प्यारे सांता जिन्हें क्रिसमस फादर भी कहा जाता है हर क्रिसमस पर बच्चों को चॉकलेट्स, गिफ्ट्स देकर बच्चों की मुस्कुराहट का कारण बन जाते हैं। तभी तो हर क्रिसमस बच्चे अपने सांता अंकल का बेसब्री से इंतजार करते हैं। 

माना जाता है कि सांता का घर उत्तरी ध्रुव में है और वे उड़ने वाले रेनडियर्स की गाड़ी पर चलते हैं। सांता का यह आधुनिक रूप 19वीं सदी से अस्तित्व में आया उसके पहले ये ऐसे नहीं थे। आज से डेढ़ हजार साल पहले जन्मे संत निकोलस को असली सांता और सांता का जनक माना जाता है। हालांकि संत निकोलस और जीसस के जन्म का सीधा संबंध नहीं रहा है फिर भी आज के समय में सांता क्लॉज क्रिसमस का अहम हिस्सा हैं। उनके बिना क्रिसमस अधूरा सा लगता है। 

‍संत निकोलस का जन्म तीसरी सदी में जीसस की मौत के 280 साल बाद मायरा में हुआ। वे एक रईस परिवार से थे। उन्होंने बचपन में ही अपने माता-पिता को खो दिया। बचपन से ही उनकी प्रभु यीशु में बहुत आस्था थी। वे बड़े होकर ईसाई धर्म के पादरी (पुजारी) और बाद में ‍बिशप बने। उन्हें जरूरतमंदों और बच्चों को गिफ्‍ट्स देना बहुत अच्छा लगता था। वे अक्सर जरूरतमंदों और बच्चों को गिफ्ट्स देते थे।

संत निकोलस अपने उपहार आधी रात को ही देते थे क्योंकि उन्हें उपहार देते हुए नजर आना पसंद नहीं था। वे अपनी पहचान लोगों के सामने नहीं लाना चाहते थे। इसी कारण बच्चों को जल्दी सुला दिया जाता। आज भी कई जगह ऐसा ही होता है अगर बच्चे जल्दी नहीं सोते तो उनके सांता अंकल उन्हें उपहार देने नहीं आते हैं। 

संत निकोलस की दरियादिली की एक बहुत ही मशहूर कहानी है कि उन्होंने एक गर‍ीब की मदद की। जिसके पास अपनी तीन बेटियों की शादी के लिए पैसे नहीं थे और मजबूरन वह उन्हें मजदूरी और देह व्यापार के दलदल में भेज रहा था। तब निकोलस ने चुपके से उसकी तीनों बेटियों की सूख रही जुराबों में सोने के सिक्कों की थैलियां रख दी और उन्हें लाचारी की जिंदगी से मुक्ति दिलाई। बस तभी से क्रिसमस की रात बच्चे इस उम्मीद के साथ अपने मोजे बाहर लटकाते हैं कि सुबह उनमें उनके लिए गिफ्ट्स होंगे।

इसी प्रकार फ्रांस में चिमनी पर जूते लटकाने की प्रथा है। हॉलैंड में बच्चे सांता के रेंडियरर्स के लिए अपने जूते में गाजर भर कर रखते हैं। 

सांता का आज का जो प्रचलित नाम है वह निकोलस के डच नाम सिंटर क्लास से आया है। जो बाद में सांता क्लॉज बन गया। जीसस और मदर मैरी के बाद संत निकोलस को ही इतना सम्मान मिला। सन् 1200 से फ्रांस में 6 दिसम्बर को निकोलस दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाने लगा। क्योंकि इस दिन संत निकोलस की मृत्यु हुई थी। अमेरिका में 1773 में पहली बार सांता सेंट ए क्लॉज के रूप में मीडिया से रूबरू हुए। 

आज के आधुनिक युग के सांता का अस्तित्व 1930 में आया। हैडन संडब्लोम नामक एक कलाकार कोका-कोला की एड में सांता के रूप में 35 वर्षों तक दिखाई दिया। सांता का यह नया अवतार लोगों को बहुत पसंद आया और आखिरकार इसे सांता का नया रूप स्वीकारा गया जो आज तक लोगों के बीच काफी मशहूर है। 

इस प्रकार धीरे-धीरे क्रिसमस और सांता का साथ गहराता चला गया और सांता पूरे विश्व में मशहूर होने के साथ-साथ बच्चों के चहेते बन गए। 

आज भी ऐसा कहा जाता है कि सांता अपनी वाइफ और बहुत सारे बौनों के साथ उत्तरी ध्रुव में रहते हैं। वहां पर एक खिलौने की फैक्ट्री है जहां सारे खिलौने बनाए जाते हैं। सांता के ये बौने साल भर इस फैक्ट्री में क्रिसमस के ‍खिलौने बनाने के लिए काम करते हैं। आज विश्वभर में सांता के कई पते हैं जहां बच्चे अपने खत भेजते हैं, लेकिन उनके फिनलैंड वाले पते पर सबसे ज्यादा खत भेजे जाते हैं। इस पते पर भेजे गए प्रत्येक खत का लोगों को जवाब भी मिलता है। आप भी अपने खत सांता को इस पते पर भेज सकते हैं।

कई स्थानों पर सांता के पोस्टल वॉलेन्टियर रहते हैं जो सांता के नाम आए इन खतों का जवाब देते हैं। देश-विदेश के कई बच्चे सांता को खत की जगह ई-मेल भेजते हैं। जिनका जवाब उन्हें मिलता है और क्रिसमस के दिन उनकी विश पूरी की जाती है।
