उद्धब भाराली कहते हैं, "समस्याओं को सुलझाना मुझे अच्छा लगता है। मैं चाहता हूं कि लोग अपनी ज़िंदगी को अपनी कोशिशों से थोड़ा बेहतर और आत्मनिर्भर बनाएं।" असम के लखीमपुर ज़िले के भाराली इसी मंशा के साथ नई-नई खोजों में लगे हुए हैं। उन्होंने तीस साल पहले अपने परिवार के कर्ज़ को चुकाने के मकसद से यह शुरू किया था। लेकिन आज यह उनका जुनून बन चुका है।
वह अब तक 140 से ज़्यादा चीजें बना चुके हैं। इनमें से कई चीज़ें व्यवसायिक तौर पर खरीदी-बेची जा रही हैं तो कई चीजों को अंतरराष्ट्रीय अवॉर्ड तक हासिल हो चुका है। उनका कहना है कि उनका मुख्य मकसद लोगों की मदद करना रहा है। पूरे भारत में उन्हें उनके कृषि संबंधी नई खोजों के लिए जाना जाता है। लेकिन उनकी नई खोज से शारीरिक रूप से असमर्थ लोगों को मदद मिल रही है।
हाथ की जगह लगाया चम्मच
वो बताते हैं कि चूंकि भारत में सरकार की ओर से ऐसे लोगों को सीमित सहायता मिलती है इसलिए उनके जैसे लोगों को इसके समाधान के लिए आगे आना चाहिए।

15 साल के राज रहमान जन्म से विकलांग पैदा हुए थे।
भाराली ने उनके लिए एक साधारण सा उपकरण तैयार किया जो कि रोज़मर्रा की ज़िंदगी में इस्तेमाल होने वाली चीज़ों वेल्क्रो और चम्मच से बना हुआ था। इसे उनके हाथ की जगह पर लगाया गया। इसकी मदद से वो खाना खाते हैं और लिख पाते हैं। भाराली ने राज के लिए खास तरह के जूते भी तैयार किए हैं जिसकी मदद से राज आसानी से घूम फिर सकते हैं।
राज बताते हैं, "मैं ख़ुद को लेकर काफी परेशान रहा करता था। लेकिन अब मैं ख़ुद को तनाव मुक्त महसूस करता हूं। मुझे इस बात की फ़िक्र नहीं करनी होती है कि मैं स्कूल जाने के लिए रेलवे लाइन कैसे पार कर पाऊंगा। अब बिना किसी परेशानी के चल सकता हूं।"
वो कहते हैं, "मैं खुश हूं कि मैं अपना ख़याल ख़ुद रख सकता हूं।"
मानवीय सूझबूझ
भाराली याद करते हुए कहते हैं कि शुरू में लोगों ने उन्हें किसी काम का नहीं समझा था। उन्हें ख़ुद को एक काबिल इनोवेटर साबित करने में 18 साल लग गए। उनके तैयार किए गए ज़्यादातर उपकरण कम लागत वाले और आसानी से मिल जाने वाले सामानों से बना होता है। इस तरह के किफ़ायती उपकरणों को हिंदी में 'जुगाड़' कहते हैं।

कैम्ब्रिज यूनिवर्सिटी के जज बिज़नेस स्कूल के जयदीप प्रभु ने जुगाड़ पर एक किताब लिखी है। उनका मानना है कि यह लोगों को नई चीजें बनाने के लिए प्रेरित करता है।
वो कहते हैं, "ऐसा इसलिए है क्योंकि इसके लिए आपकी स्वभाविक प्रतिभा से ज़्यादा की ज़रूरत नहीं होती। इसके पीछे मंशा यह होती है कि आपके समाज में आपके इर्द-गिर्द मौजूद समस्याओं का समाधान निकाला जाए। इसमें समस्याओं के समाधान के लिए उन संसाधनों का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है जो आसानी से आपके लिए उपलब्ध हों।"
राली अपनी नई खोजों को बेचकर और बिज़नेस और सरकार को नई तकनीकी पेश कर पैसा कमाते हैं। लेकिन वो दूसरों को पैसा कमाने में मदद करना चाहते हैं ताकि वे लोग अपनी आर्थिक स्थिति सुधार सकें। उन्होंने दो केंद्र खोले जहां लोग आकर उनकी मशीनों का इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं।
इनमें से एक केंद्र में स्थानीय गांवों की महिलाएं आकर उस मशीन की मदद से चावल पीसने का काम करती हैं जिसे भाराली ने बनाया है। चावल के इस आटे का इस्तेमाल केक बनाने में और दूसरे खाने-पीने की चीज़ों को बनाने में किया जाता है जिसे बेचकर पैसा भी कमाया जा सकता है।
सफलता का कोई शॉर्टकट नहीं
वर्ल्ड बैंक के मुताबिक भारत में 15 साल से अधिक उम्र की 27 फ़ीसदी महिलाएं आर्थिक रूप से सक्रिय हैं। भाराली के केंद्र में आने वाली पोरबीत्ता धुत्ता कहती हैं, "हमारे पास गांवों में पैसा कमाने के लिए कोई सुविधा उपलब्ध नहीं है।" "इस केंद्र की मदद से हम आत्मनिर्भर बन ख़ुद के लिए और अपने परिवार के लिए पैसे कमा पाते हैं।"
इन दूर-दराज़ के गांवों में पुरुष भाराली के इन जुगाड़ों से लाभ उठा रहे हैं। भाराली अब तक 200 से अधिक सीमेंट की ईंटे बनानी वाली मशीनें विकसित कर उन्हें बेच लिया है। एक मशीन को चलाने में पांच लोगों की ज़रूरत पड़ती है और उनका अनुमान है कि करीब एक हज़ार से अधिक पुरुषों को इसकी वजह से काम मिला हुआ है।
हालांकि, भाराली मानते हैं कि सफलता का कोई शॉर्टकट नहीं होता है। उनकी कड़ी मेहनत की बदौलत आज उनकी ज़िंदगी आराम से गुज़र रही है और वो 25 दूसरे लोगों के परिवारों को भी मदद कर पा रहे हैं। उनके इंजीनियरिंग के बैकग्रांउड के होने की वजह से उन्हें निश्चित तौर पर इस काम में मदद मिली। लेकिन वो मानते हैं कि इनोवेशन की मौलिक बातों को किसी को सिखाया नहीं जा सकता है।
वो कहते हैं, "कोई भी इंसान जो अपने आसपास की चीज़ों से परेशान और बेचैन है वो इनोवेटर हो सकता है। इनोवेशन आपके अंदर से आती है। कोई दूसरा आपको इनोवेटर नहीं बना सकता। आपको इसे ख़ुद महसूस करना होगा।"
पहले वो मशीनें डिज़ाइन करते थे और उम्मीद करते थे कि वो बिके लेकिन अब उनकी ऐसी छवि बन गई है कि लोग उन्हें अपनी समस्याओं के अनुरूप नई चीजें बनाने की ज़िम्मेदारी देते हैं। वो भी अपने इस सफर को यूं ही जारी रखना चाहते हैं। नई चीजों को लेकर उनका उत्साह पूरा रहता है। वह कहते हैं, "मैं चुनौती का आनंद लेता हूं। हमेशा कुछ नया और ताज़ा। और इस बात का एहसास खुशी देती है कि मैं किसी चीज़ को बनाने वाला पहला आदमी हूं।"
