"यह 1985 की बात है। मैंने सोचा कि यह शिलाजीत आख़िर क्या चीज़ है कि लोग थोड़ा-थोड़ा इस्तेमाल करते हैं। मैं एक कप पीकर तो देखूं। ख़ैर एक कप तो मैंने पी लिया मगर फिर अचानक से बेहोशी छाने लगी। मैंने फ़ौरन अपने ऊपर एक बाल्टी पानी डाली और डॉक्टर की तरफ़ दौड़ लगा दी। मैंने उन्हें कहा कि मैंने एक कप शिलाजीत पी लिया है। यह कहकर मैं गिर गया। चार घंटे बाद मुझे होश आया तो डॉक्टर ने एक ज़ोरदार थप्पड़ मारा और कहा कि ऐसा दोबारा मत करना।"
यह कहानी हुंज़ा घाटी के इलाक़े अलीआबाद के वासी करीमुद्दीन की है जो 1980 से अपने पिता के साथ शिलाजीत बनाने का कारोबार कर रहे हैं। उनसे मैं उनके घर की छत पर ही मिला जहां पर शिलाजीत को सुखाया जाता है।
शिलाजीत क्या है और यह बनता कैसे है? : शिलाजीत मध्य एशिया के पहाड़ों में पाया जाता है और पाकिस्तान में यह ज़्यादातर गिलगित-बालटिस्तान के पहाड़ों से निकाला जाता है। करीमुद्दीन बताते हैं कि शिलाजीत बहुत सालों तक विभिन्न पहाड़ों की गुफाओं में मौजूद धातुओं और पौधों के घटकों से मिलकर बनता है। जिसके बाद एक निश्चित समय पर उसे निकाल लिया जाता है।

लेकिन इसको ढूंढने का काम इतना आसान नहीं जितना समझा जाता है। गगनचुंबी पहाड़ों के ख़तरनाक और मुश्किल रास्तों से होते हुए करीमुद्दीन के कारीगर शिलाजीत ढूंढने सूरज निकलने से पहले पहाड़ों की तरफ़ निकल जाते हैं। अक्सर शिलाजीत की तलाश में कई दिन लग जाते हैं। शिलाजीत को उसके अंतिम चरण तक पहुंचने के लिए दो अहम पड़ाव से गुज़रना पड़ता है।
शिलाजीत की तलाश : पहाड़ की चोटियों पर जाकर जिस तरीक़े से शिलाजीत निकाला जाता है, अगर आप वह दृश्य अपनी आंखों से देखें और आपके रोंगटे खड़े न हों तो मैं आपकी हिम्मत की दाद दूंगा। क्योंकि मेरी भी कुछ ऐसी ही हालत हुई थी जब हम कुछ घंटे का सफ़र तय करने के बाद उस पहाड़ की चोटी पर पहुंचे थे जहां से आप बर्फ़ से ढकी राकापोशी की चोटी तो देख ही सकते हैं लेकिन साथ में आपके और राकापोशी के बीच हुंज़ा घाटी का भी एक सुंदर दृश्य नज़र आता है।
हुंज़ा घाटी में पहाड़ों से शिलाजीत ढूंढने और निकालने के लिए अनुभवी लोग होते हैं जो इलाक़े के चप्पे-चप्पे को जानते हैं। ग़ाज़ी करीम जो यह काम पिछले 15 साल से कर रहे हैं कहते हैं कि "शिलाजीत के लिए हम कुछ घंटों के सफ़र से लेकर कई-कई दिनों तक सफ़र करते हैं।"
और फिर यही कच्चा माल जो पहाड़ों से ढूंढते हैं, शहर में वापस आकर ख़ास दुकानदारों को बेचते हैं जो उसे एक ख़ास तरीके से साफ़ करने के बाद आगे बेचते हैं।
ये लोग अक्सर चार से पांच लोगों का समूह बनाकर सफ़र करते हैं, जिनमें से एक का काम चाय और खाना बनाना होता है। जबकि बाक़ी लोग चोटी पर रस्सी को मज़बूती से बांधते और पकड़ते हैं। और फिर एक व्यक्ति उस गुफा के अंदर उतरता है जहां से शिलाजीत मिलने की संभावना होती है।
ग़ाज़ी बताते हैं कि "हम दूरबीन से गुफाओं में देखते हैं जिससे हमें यह नज़र आ जाता है। जब नज़दीक जाते हैं तो उसके विशेष प्रकार के गंध से हमें पता चल जाता है।"
इस दौरान ग़ाज़ी बड़ी महारत से पहाड़ की चोटी से रस्सी के ज़रिये 90 के कोण पर नीचे उतरने लगे। और फिर गुफा के अंदर उतरने के कुछ देर बाद ग़ाज़ी ने अपने दोस्तों को आवाज़ लगाई कि शिलाजीत मिल गया है।
ग़ाज़ी इस पूरी प्रक्रिया के बारे में कहते हैं कि "जब बंदा नीचे गुफा में उतरता है तो नीचे उसके बैठने की जगह होती है। शिलाजीत निकालने के बाद बोरी में डालते हैं और फिर पहले बोरियों को ऊपर भेजते हैं और उसके बाद हम ख़ुद वापस उसी रस्सी के ज़रिये ऊपर चले जाते हैं।"
इस पूरी प्रक्रिया में लगभग आधा घंटा लगा लेकिन उस आधे घंटे के बारे में वो कहते हैं कि "अगर रस्सी बांधते हुए किसी ने गिरह सही नहीं लगाई हुई हो या सेफ़्टी बेल्ट ठीक न बांधी हुई हो तो रस्सी के खुल जाने की आशंका ज़्यादा होती है।" लेकिन ग़ाज़ी ने कहा कि शुक्र है कि आज तक उनके साथ ऐसी कोई घटना नहीं घटी।
इस खोज में उन्हें शिलाजीत की अलग-अलग मात्रा मिलती है। वह कहते हैं "सबसे अधिक मात्रा जो आज तक उन्होंने निकाली वह 20 मन है। कभी-कभी ऐसा भी होता है कि गुफा से कुछ नहीं निकलता और ख़ाली हाथ वापस आ जाते हैं।"
शिलाजीत फ़िल्टर करने की प्रक्रिया : शिलाजीत उस वक़्त तक पत्थर के अंदर ही एक ख़ास घटक के रूप में मौजूद होती है। ये कारीगर शहर जाकर इसे उन दुकानदारों को बेचते हैं जो इसकी सफ़ाई और फ़िल्टर का काम करते हैं।
करीमुद्दीन 1980 से यह काम कर रहे हैं। वह कहते हैं कि उनके पिता ने सूरज की रोशनी में फ़िल्टर करने की शुरुआत की थी। जिसे उन्होंने 'आफ़ताबी शिलाजीत' का नाम दिया था।
इस प्रक्रिया में उन बड़े पत्थरों के, जिन्हें पहाड़ से लाया गया होता है, छोटे टुकड़े किए जाते हैं और उसे एक बड़ी बाल्टी के अंदर डालकर एक निश्चत मात्रा में पानी मिलाकर बड़े चम्मच से हिलाया जाता है ताकि शिलाजीत अच्छी तरह से उस पानी में घुल जाए। फिर कुछ घंटे बाद पानी की सतह से गंदगी को हटाया जाता है।
करीमुद्दीन कहते हैं कि "हम इस पानी को एक हफ़्ते तक ऐसे ही रखते हैं। इस दौरन पानी का रंग बिलकुल काला हो चुका होता है, जिसका मतलब होता है कि अब शिलाजीत पत्थरों से पूरी तरह पानी में घुल चुकी है।" वह कहते हैं कि यह एक अहम पड़ाव होता है जिसमें शिलाजीत वाले पानी से हानिकारक कणों को अलग करना होता है।
"आम तौर पर लालच, जल्दबाज़ी और पैसा कमाने के चक्कर में लोग इस पानी को सिर्फ़ किसी कपड़े में से छानकर और तीन से चार घंटे के लिए उबालते हैं जिससे वह जल्दी गाढ़ा हो जाता है और इस तरह यह शिलाजीत तैयार हो जाती है। मगर इसका फ़ायदा कम और नुक़सान ज़्यादा है।"
करीमुद्दीन कहते हैं कि इसके दो बड़े नुक़सान होते हैं। पहला यह कि कपड़े और जाली के ज़रिये फ़िल्टर करने से हानिकारक तत्व उसमें ही रह जाते हैं। दूसरा यह कि शिलाजीत को पानी में उबालकर गाढ़ा करने से उसके सारे खनिज तत्व समाप्त हो जाते हैं जिसका कोई फ़ायदा नहीं होता।
करीमुद्दीन 30 से 40 दिनों में इस प्रक्रिया को पूरी करते हैं। जिसमें वह फ़िल्ट्रेशन के लिए एक ख़ास मशीन इस्तेमाल करते हैं। इस मशीन को उन्होंने अपने प्रतिद्वंदियों से छिपाकर रखा है, जिसे उन्होंने विदेश से मंगाया है। उनके अनुसार यही हमारी कामयाबी का राज़ है कि हम शुद्ध शिलाजीत बनाते हैं।

शिलाजीत बनाने का अंतिम पड़ाव : फ़िल्ट्रेशन के बाद शिलाजीत के पानी को एक शीशे से बने हुए ख़ानों में रखते हैं और तक़रीबन एक महीने तक उसका पानी सूखता रहता है जिस दौरान वह उस बरतन में और भी शिलाजीत का पानी डालते रहते हैं ताकि वह भर जाए। और यूं आफ़ताबी शिलाजीत तैयार होता है जिसे पैकिंग के बाद दुकानदारों को सप्लाई किया जाता है।
करीमुद्दीन कहते हैं कि वह शिलाजीत की हर खेप को मेडिकल टेस्ट के लिए भी भेजते हैं और वह सर्टिफ़िकेट शिलाजीत के शुद्ध होने का प्रमाण होता है। जिसमें यह दर्ज होता है कि इसमें 86 प्रकार के खनिज तत्व मौजूद हैं।
करीमुद्दीन कहते हैं कि वह 10 ग्राम शिलाजीत 300 रुपए से लेकर 600 रुपए तक बेचते हैं। शिलाजीत की मांग और उसकी उपलब्धता के आधार पर उसकी क़ीमत तय होती है। "मगर दुकानदार अपनी मर्ज़ी से उसकी क़ीमत लगाकर बेचते हैं।"
असली और नक़ली शिलाजीत की पहचान : करीमुद्दीन कहते हैं कि अक्सर दुकान वाले शिलाजीत की पहचान उससे आने वाली विशेष गंध से करते हैं, लेकिन उनके अनुसार ऐसा नहीं है। "उसकी मात्रा बढ़ाने के लिए लोग अक्सर उसमें आटा वग़ैरह भी इस्तेमाल करते हैं। और अगर उसमें भी शिलाजीत की थोड़ी मात्रा मिला दी गई हो तो उसमें से भी वैसी ही गंध आएगी जो असली शिलाजीत से आती है।"
वे कहते हैं कि "इसका आसान हल ये है कि दुकनदार से उसके मेडिकल टेस्ट के बारे में पूछा जाए और इस बात की पुष्टि की जाए कि उसमें 86 प्रकार के खनिज तत्व मौजूद हैं।"
शिलाजीत वियाग्रा की तरह काम नहीं करती लेकिन इसके लाभ क्या हैं? : करीमुद्दीन कहते हैं कि लोगों को शिलाजीत के बारे में बहुत सी ग़लतफ़हमियां हैं। दरअसल इसमें मौजूद खनिज तत्व शरीर की कमी को पूरा करते हैं "जिसकी वजह से शरीर की गर्मी बढ़ने की वजह से रक्त संचार तेज़ हो जाता है, लेकिन यह वियाग्रा की तरह काम नहीं करता।"
इस्लामाबाद के रहने वाले डॉ. वहीद मेराज कहते हैं कि "इसमें आयरन, ज़िंक, मैग्नीशियम समेत 85 से अधिक खनिज तत्व पाए जाते हैं। इन सभी खनिज तत्वों की वजह से मनुष्य के शरीर में रक्त का संचार बढ़ जाता है और प्रतिरोधक क्षमता में वृद्धि होती है।"
वह आगे कहते हैं "इसके इस्तेमाल से मनुष्य के तंत्रिका तंत्र को ठीक रखने में भी सहायता मिलती है, जिसकी वजह से यह अलज़ाइमर, डिप्रेशन और दिमाग़ के लिए लाभदायक होता है।"
मेराज कहते हैं कि "चूहों पर किए गए टेस्ट से उनके शुगर लेवल पर भी सकारात्मक प्रभाव देखे गए हैं इस वजह से यह शुगर के इलाज में भी सहायक है।" इसके अलावा वह कहते हैं कि हड्डी और जोड़ के लिए भी बहुत लाभदायक है।
शिलाजीत के नुक़सान के बारे में भी वह कहते हैं कि "अच्छी तरह से फ़िल्टर न होना उसके नुक़सान में बढ़ोतरी करता है। इसका अधिक इस्तेमाल भी स्वास्थ्य के लिए हानिकारक है।"
शिलाजीत का सही इस्तेमाल : करीमुद्दीन कहते हैं कि "इसे सूखे चने के दाने के बराबर और गर्म दूध के साथ मिलाकर लेना चाहिए। 50 साल के ज़्यादा उम्र के लोग रोज़ाना दो-तीन महीने तक इसका इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं। जवान लोग सप्ताह में दो दिन से ज़्यादा इस्तेमाल न करें।" वह आगे कहते हैं कि ब्लड प्रेशर के मरीज़ इसका इस्तेमाल बिलकुल भी न करें।
"जब 86 खनिज तत्व पेट के अंदर जाते हैं तो वैसे भी ब्लड प्रेशर थोड़ा बढ़ जाता है। इसलिए जिनका ब्लड प्रेशर पहले से ज़्यादा हो तो वह बिलकुल भी इस्तेमाल न करें।" इनके अनुसार इसके आलावा दिल के मरीज़ को इसका इस्तेमाल नहीं करना चाहिए।
