यौन संबंध के बाद आशिकों को ज़िंदा जलाने वाली वो रानी

इतिहास की किताबों में झांकें तो अफ़्रीकी देश अंगोला की रानी एनजिंगा एमबांदी एक बहादुर और तेज दिमाग़ वाली योद्धा के रूप में नज़र आएंगी, जिन्होंने 17वीं शताब्दी में अफ़्रीका में यूरोपीय उपनिवेशवाद के ख़िलाफ़ जंग छेड़ी थी। लेकिन कुछ लोग उन्हें एक क्रूर महिला के रूप में भी देखते हैं, जिन्होंने सत्ता के लिए अपने भाई को भी मौत के घाट उतार दिया।

यही नहीं, वह अपने हरम में रहने वाले पुरुषों के साथ एक बार यौन संबंध बनाने के बाद उन्हें ज़िंदा जलवा देती थीं। लेकिन इतिहासकार एक बात पर राजी होते हैं और वह यह है कि एनजिंगा अफ़्रीका की सबसे लोकप्रिय महिलाओं में से एक हैं।

रानी या एनगोला

एमबांदू लोगों की नेता एनजिंगा दक्षिण पश्चिम अफ़्रीकी देश एनदोंगो और मतांबा की रानी थीं। लेकिन स्थानीय भाषा किमबांदु में एनजिंगा को एनगोला कहा जाता था। यही वो शब्द था जिससे पुर्तगाली लोग इस इलाके को बुलाया करते थे।

आख़िरकार इस क्षेत्र को अंगोला कहा जाने लगा। इस इलाके को ये नाम तब मिला जब पुर्तगाल के सैनिकों ने सोने और चांदी की तलाश में एनदोंगो पर हमला किया था। लेकिन जब उन्हें सोने और चांदी की खानें नहीं मिली तो उन्होंने ब्राज़ील में अपने नए उपनिवेश में मजदूरों के साथ व्यापार करना शुरू कर दिया।

एनजिंगा का जन्म इस पुर्तगाली हमले के आठ साल बाद हुआ और उन्होंने अपने पिता किंग एमबांदी किलुंजी के साथ बचपन से ही आक्रमणकारियों के साथ संघर्ष किया। साल 1617 में जब राजा एमबांदी किलुंजी की मौत हो गई तो उनके एक बेटे एनगोला एमबांदी ने सत्ता संभाली। लेकिन उनमें अपने पिता वाला करिश्मा और अपनी बहन एनजिंगा जैसी बुद्धि नहीं थी।

एनगोला एमबांदी को जल्द ही ये डर सताने लगा कि उनके अपने ही लोग एनजिंगा की तरफ़ से उनके ख़िलाफ़ षड्यंत्र कर रहे हैं। और इसी डर के चलते एनगोला एमबांदी ने एनजिंगा के बेटे को मौत की सज़ा देने का ऐलान किया। लेकिन जब नए राजा ने ख़ुद को यूरोपीय आक्रमणकारियों का सामना करने में असफल पाया क्योंकि वह धीरे-धीरे आगे बढ़ रहे थे और भारी जनहानि कर रहे थे। ऐसे में एनगोला एमबांदी ने अपने एक क़रीबी सहयोगी की सलाह मान ली।

इसके बाद राजा एनगोला एमबांदी ने अपनी बहन के साथ सत्ता को बांटने का फैसला किया। पुर्तगाली मिशनरियों से पुर्तगाली भाषा सीखने वाली एनजिंगा एक बेहद प्रतिभाशाली रणनीतिकार थीं। ऐसे में जब एनजिंगा बातचीत का दौर शुरू करने के लिए लुआंडा पहुंची तो उन्होंने वहां पर काले, गोरे और कई संकर जातियों के लोगों को देखा।

एनजिंगा ने ऐसा नज़ारा पहली बार देखा था लेकिन वो इसकी जगह किसी और चीज़ को देखकर आश्चर्यचकित रह गईं। दरअसल, ग़ुलामों को एक पंक्ति में खड़ा करके बड़े-बड़े जहाजों में ले जाया जा रहा था। कुछ ही सालों में लुआंडा अफ़्रीका में सबसे बड़ा ग़ुलामों का अड्डा बन गया।

लेकिन जब वह पुर्तगाली गवर्नर जोआओ कोरिए डे सोउसा के साथ शांति वार्ता करने उनके दफ़्तर पहुंची तो एनजिंगा के साथ जो व्यवहार किया गया उस पर इतिहासकारों ने टिप्पणियां की हैं। क्योंकि जब वह वहां पहुंची तो उन्होंने देखा कि पुर्तगाली आरामदायक कुर्सियों पर बैठे हुए हैं और उनके लिए जमीन पर बैठने की व्यवस्था की गई थी।

ये देखकर एनजिंगा ने एक भी शब्द नहीं कहा और उनकी नज़र के इशारे को देखते ही उनका एक नौकर कुर्सी के अंदाज में एनजिंगा के सामने बैठ गया। फिर एनजिंगा उसकी पीठ पर बैठ गईं और वह गवर्नर के बराबर ऊंचाई पर पहुंच गईं। एनजिंगा ने इस तरह ये बता दिया कि वह बराबरी के स्तर से बातचीत करने आई हैं।

बातचीत के लंबे दौर के बाद दोनों पक्ष इस बात पर सहमत हो गए कि पुर्तगाली सेना एनदोंगो को छोड़कर चली जाएगी और उनकी संप्रभुता को स्वीकार करेंगी। लेकिन इसके बदले में एनजिंगा इस पर तैयार हुईं कि इस क्षेत्र को व्यापारिक रास्तों को बनाने के लिए खुला छोड़ा जाएगा।

पुर्तगाल के साथ रिश्ते बेहतर करने के लिए एनजिंगा ने ईसाई धर्म भी स्वीकार किया जिसके बाद नया नाम एना डे सूजा धारण किया। इस वक्त उनकी उम्र 40 साल थी। लेकिन दोनों के बीच बेहतर रिश्ते ज़्यादा देर तक नहीं चले और जल्द ही संघर्ष की शुरुआत हो गई।

जब एनजिंगा बनी रानी

साल 1624 में इनके भाई एक छोटे से द्वीप में जाकर रहने लगे। इसके बाद यहीं उनकी मौत हो गई। एनजिंगा की भाई की मौत को लेकर कई तरह की कहानियां हैं। कुछ लोग कहते हैं कि एनजिंगा ने अपने बेटे की हत्या का बदला लेने के लिए उन्हें ज़हर दिलवाया। वहीं, कुछ लोग उनकी मौत को आत्महत्या के रूप में भी देखते हैं।

लेकिन इस सबके बीच में एनजिंगा एमबांदे ने पुर्तागालियों और कुछ अपने लोगों की चुनौतियों का सामना करते हुए एनदोंगों की पहली रानी बनने का कीर्तिमान बनाकर दिखाया। अंगोला की नेशनल लाइब्रेरी के निदेशक जाओ पेड्रो लॉरेंको के मुताबिक़, अफ़्रीका में बीते कई युगों से जारी महिलाओं के शोषण के ख़िलाफ़ एनजिंगा एमबांदे एक मुखर आवाज़ की तरह हैं।"

वह कहते हैं, "उनकी तरह ही कई और हस्तियां हैं जो हमें ये समझने में मदद करती हैं कि अफ्रीका में सत्ता के ढांचे में फिट रहने के बावजूद महिलाओं ने इस महाद्वीप के विकास में योगदान दिया है।"

कुछ सूत्र कहते हैं कि एनजिंगा का अंदाज एक रानी के मुताबिक़ क्रूरता से भरा था। उदाहरण के लिए, राज्य की सीमा पर रहने वाले इमबांगाला योद्धाओं की मदद लेना ताकि अपने प्रतिद्वंद्वियों को डराकर अपनी स्थिति को मजबूत किया जा सके। कई सालों तक अपने राज्य का नेतृत्व करने के बाद एनजिंगा ने अपने पड़ोसी राज्य मुतांबा पर अधिकार कर लिया। इसके साथ ही अपनी सीमाओं की भी ढंग से हिफाजत की।

ब्राज़ीली और पुर्तगाली लेखिका जोस एडुआर्डो अगुआलुसा कहते हैं, "क्वीन एनजिंगा युद्ध भूमि में एक महान योद्धा ही नहीं बल्कि एक महान रणनीतिकार और राजनयिक थीं।" "वह पुर्तगालियों के ख़िलाफ़ लड़ी और डचों के साथ दोस्ती की। वहीं, जब दूसरे राज्यों से संघर्ष होता था तो वह पुर्तगालियों से मदद ले लेती थीं।"

सेक्स स्लेव से जुड़ी कहानी

फ्रांसीसी दार्शनिक मार्किस दे सादे ने इतालवी मिशनरी गिओवनी कावेज़ी की कहानियों पर आधारित एक किताब 'द फ़िलॉसोफ़ी ऑफ़ द ड्रेसिंग टेबल' लिखी है। कावेज़ी ने दावा किया था कि एनजिंगा अपने आशिकों के साथ सेक्स करने के बाद उन्हें जलाकर मार देती थी। रानी एनजिंगा के हरम को चिबदोस कहा जाता था। और इसमें रहने वाले पुरुषों को पहनने के लिए महिलाओं के कपड़े दिए जाते थे।

यही नहीं, जब रानी को अपने हरम में मौजूद किसी पुरुष के साथ सेक्स करना होता था तो हरम के लड़कों को आपस में मौत होने तक लड़ना होता था। लेकिन जीतने वाले को जो मिलता था वो और भी ज़्यादा ख़तरनाक होता था। दरअसल, ये होता था कि इन पुरुषों को सेक्स के बाद जलाकर मार दिया जाता था। हालांकि, ये माना जाता है कि कावेज़ी की कहानियां दूसरे लोगों के दावों पर आधारित हैं। ऐसे में इतिहासकार मानते हैं कि इसके कई और वर्जन भी मौजूद हैं।
