कश्मीर में सीआरपीएफ़ के काफिले पर गुरुवार को हुए चरमपंथी हमले के बाद पुलवामा एक बार फिर चर्चा के केंद्र में रहा। दक्षिण कश्मीर के पुलवामा ज़िले में पिछले कई वर्षों से चरमपंथी गतिविधियां होती रही हैं। लेकिन पिछले कुछ वर्षों से अशांत चल रहा यह इलाका हमेशा से ऐसा नहीं रहा है बल्कि इसकी कश्मीर के कुछ बेहद खूबसूरत वादियों वाले ज़िले में गिनती होती है।
दक्षिण कश्मीर का पुलवामा ज़िला उत्तर में श्रीनगर, बडगाम, पश्चिम में पुंछ और दक्षिण-पूर्व में अनंतनाग से घिरा है। अनंतनाग ज़िले से ही पुलवामा, शोपियां और त्राल तहसीलों को 1979 में अलग कर इस ज़िले का गठन करते हुए चार तहसीलों पुलवामा, पंपोर, अवंतिपोरा और त्राल में बांटा गया था। 2007 में ज़िले को शोपियां और पुलवामा दो भागों में बांट दिया गया था। अब यहां आठ तहसीलें पुलवामा, त्राल, अवंतिपोरा, पंपोर, राजपोरा, शाहूरा, काकपोरा और अरिपल हैं।
श्रीनगर के डलगेट से महज 28 किलोमीटर दूर 951 वर्ग किलोमीटर में फ़ैले पुलवामा की आबादी 2011 की जनगणना के मुताबिक लगभग 5.70 लाख है। यहां जनसंख्या घनत्व 598 प्रति किलोमीटर है और आबादी के लिहाज से देश के 640 ज़िलों में इसका स्थान 535वां है।
ज़िले में पुरुष-महिला अनुपात 1000:913 है। यहां 85.65 फ़ीसदी शहरी और 14.35 फ़ीसदी ग्रामीण आबादी है। ज़िले के 65.41 फ़ीसदी पुरुष और 53.81 फ़ीसदी महिलाएं साक्षर हैं।
प्रकृति की अनुपम देन
पुलवामा की जलवायु में बड़ी संख्या में झरने और प्राकृतिक नज़ारों की भरमार है। यहां तसर और मर्सार सबसे महत्वपूर्ण झीलों में से हैं। शहर से क़रीब 39 किलोमीटर दूर अहरबिल झरने की सुदंरता को देखते ही बनती है। यहां की अर्थव्यवस्था मुख्यतः खेती पर निर्भर है। यहां चावल और केसर की खेती होती है। पुलवामा ज़िला पूरी दुनिया में केसर के उत्पादन के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। केसर यहां पुलवामा, पंपोर, काकापोरा ब्लॉक में उगाई जाती है।
कृषि है पुलवामा का आधार
ज़िले के सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (जीडीपी) में धान, ऑयल सीड, केसर और दूध जैसे कृषि उत्पादों का मुख्य योगदान है। फलों के मामले में यह ज़िला सेब, बादाम, अखरोट और चेरी की खेती में लगा है। यहां की 70 फ़ीसदी आबादी इन्हीं उत्पादों की खेती में लगी है। बाकी 30 फ़ीसदी कृषक अन्य खेती में लगी है।
इसके अलावा दूध के उत्पादन को लेकर पुलवामा 'कश्मीर का आनंद' के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है। पुलवामा विशेष तौर पर राजा अवंतिवर्मन और ललितादित्य के बनाए पुरातात्विक स्मारकों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। अवंतिपोरा शहर बस्तरवान या वास्तुरवान पहाड़ की तलहटी में स्थित है, जहां जम्मू-श्रीनगर राजमार्ग के साथ झेलम नदी बहती है। यह शहर अभी भी अवंतिपुरा के अपने प्राचीन नाम से जाना जाता है।
राजतरंगिणी में है उल्लेख
अवंतिपुरा वो जगह है जिसका कल्हण ने अपने महाकाव्य राजतरंगिणी (राजाओं की नदी) में वर्णन किया है। सही मायने में, राजतरंगिणी इस इलाके के प्राचीन इतिहास का एकमात्र साहित्य प्रमाण है।

कल्हण कश्मीर के राजा हर्ष देव के काल में थे। उन्होंने कश्मीर के 2500 वर्षों के इतिहास को समटेते हुए राजतरंगिणी का लेखन साल 1150 में पूरा किया। जिसमें अंतिम 400 वर्षों की जानकारी विस्तार से दी गई है।
7826 श्लोकों और आठ तरंगों यानी भागों में विभाजित राजतरंगिणी कश्मीर के राजनीतिक और सांस्कृतिक इतिहास का काव्यरूप में वर्णन है। इसे संस्कृत महाकाव्यों का मुकुटमणि कहा जाता है। राजतरंगिणी के अनुसार शहर की स्थापना राजा अवन्तिवर्मन के नाम पर हुई थी।
अवन्तिवर्मन एक शांतिप्रिय शासक थे। उन्होंने अपने राज्य के विस्तार के लिए कभी सेना का उपयोग नहीं किया। उन्होंने अपना पूरा सामर्थ्य जनकल्याण और आर्थिक विकास में लगाया। उनके राज में यहां कला, वास्तुकला और शिक्षा के क्षेत्र को बहुत बढ़ावा मिला।
खनिज सम्पदा का धनी
जम्मू-कश्मीर भूवैज्ञानिक और खनन विभाग की ज़िला सर्वेक्षण रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक ज़िले में झेलम नदी के साथ-साथ अरपाल, रोम्शीस समेत कई धाराएं निकलती हैं। ये सभी धाराएं प्रकृति में बारहमासी हैं और ज़िले के विभिन्न स्थानों पर खनिजों को जमा करती हैं।
झेलम से रेत और बजरी के अलावा यहां प्रचुर मात्रा में चूना पत्थर भी निकाला जाता है। इसके अलावा इलाके के बलुआ पत्थर और चिकनी मिट्टी से भी राज्य की आमदनी होती है।
पुलवामा का रहने वाला था आदिल डार
पुलवामा में सीआरपीएफ़ काफिले पर गुरुवार को आत्मघाती हमला करने वाले 21 साल के आदिल अहमद डार पुलवामा के पास ही गुंडीबाग के रहने वाले थे। उनका गांव उस जगह से महज 10 किलोमीटर दूर है, जहां वो सुरक्षा काफिले से विस्फोटकों से भरी गाड़ी को भिड़ाने और इस घटना को अंजाम देने में कामयाब हुए थे। इस घटना में अब तक 40 से अधिक सीआरपीएफ़ के जवानों की मौत हो चुकी है।
पुलिस रिकॉर्ड के मुताबिक आदिल अहमद ने मार्च 2017 में स्कूल की पढ़ाई छोड़ कर मसूद अज़हर के चरमपंथी संगठन जैश-ए-मोहम्मद में शामिल हुए थे।
गृह मंत्रालय के हाल के आंकड़ों के अनुसार जम्मू-कश्मीर में 2014 और 2018 के दरम्यान चरमपंथी घटनाओं में सुरक्षाकर्मियों की मौतों की संख्या में 93 फ़ीसदी इजाफ़ा हुआ है। इसके अलावा, इन पांच वर्षों के दौरान राज्य में इस तरह की घटनाएं 176 फ़ीसदी बढ़ी हैं। कुल मिलाकर इन वर्षों में राज्य ने 1,808 चरमपंथी घटनाओं को झेला है, यानी इन पांच वर्षों के दौरान हर महीने 28 ऐसी घटनाएं हुई हैं।
