- शुमाइला जाफरी (मिट्ठी, पाकिस्तान से)
मुकेश मामा मातम के जुलूस में ले जाने के लिए एक घोड़े को सजा रहे हैं। इस घोड़े को जुलूस में उस घोड़े के तौर पर दर्शाया जाएगा जिस पर चौदह सदी पहले हुई कर्बला की लड़ाई में पैगंबर मोहम्मद के नवासे हुसैन सवार थे। मुहर्रम के मातम में ज़्यादातर शिया मुसलमान शरीक़ होते हैं। लेकिन पाकिस्तान के सिंध प्रांत का मिट्ठी शहर एक अपवाद है, जहां हिंदू भी मुहर्रम में हिस्सा लेते हैं।
अपने घोड़े पर चटख लाल कपड़ा बांधते हुए मुकेश मामा कहते हैं, "हम हुसैन से प्यार करते हैं। हमारे मन में उनके लिए बहुत श्रद्धा है। हुसैन सिर्फ मुसलमानों के नहीं थे। वह सबके लिए प्यार और मानवता का संदेश लेकर आए। हम हुसैन की शहादत का मातम मनाते हैं। जुलूस में शामिल होते हैं और मातम मनाने वालों को पानी वगैरह बांटते हैं।"
अगरबत्ती और प्रार्थना
सिंध प्रांत में मिट्ठी एक छोटी-सी जगह है। यह पाकिस्तान में इस्लाम की सूफ़ी धारा का गढ़ है। मिट्ठी में हिंदू बहुसंख्यक हैं पर वे अल्पसंख्यक मुस्लिम पड़ोसियों के सभी रीति-रिवाज़ों में हिस्सा लेते हैं। मुकेश के घर से क़रीब एक किलोमीटर दूर इमाम बरगाह मलूहक शाह के यहां लोग जुट रहे हैं। सूरज तेज़ चमक रहा है और ज़मीन तप रही है।
वहां अंदर प्रवेश करने से पहले उन सबने अपने जूते उतार दिए। एक कोने में सजा धजा ताज़िया (हुसैन की क़ब्र की प्रतिकृति) रखा है। घाघरा पहने हुए दर्जनों हिंदू महिलाएं एक लंबे खंभे पर लगे लाल झंडे के सामने रुकती हैं और अपना सम्मान प्रदर्शित करती हैं। वे अगरबत्ती जलाकर ताज़िये तक जाती हैं और वहां कुछ देर ठहरकर प्रार्थना करती हैं।
कुछ देर बाद पास के एक कमरे में पांच पुरुषों का एक समूह हुसैन की मौत के ग़म में मर्सिया पढ़ना शुरू करता है। ईश्वर लाल इस समूह की अगुवाई कर रहे हैं। ईश्वर एक संघर्षशील लोकगायक हैं। काली शलवार कमीज़ में गाते हुए वह एक हाथ से अपनी छाती पीटते हैं। उनकी आंखों में आंसू हैं। उनके सामने बैठे क़रीब चालीस लोग उतनी ही श्रद्धा से उन्हें सुन रहे हैं।

हिंदू दुकानदार करते हैं लंगर का इंतज़ाम
ईश्वर कहते हैं कि इस पर हिंदुओं या मुसलमानों की ओर से कोई आपत्ति नहीं की जाती। उनके मुताबिक, "यहां हिंदू शिया मस्जिदों में भी जाते हैं। वह भी काले कपड़े पहनकर। अगर कोई इसके ख़िलाफ़ कुछ बोलता है तो हम उस पर ध्यान नहीं देते।"
मुहर्रम के दौरान मातम करने वालों के लिए नियाज़ या लंगर के तौर पर मुफ़्त भोजन की व्यवस्था रहती है। यह जिम्मा ज़्यादातर स्थानीय हिंदू दुकानदार संभालते हैं। नौवें दिन सूरज डूबने के बाद, बड़ी संख्या में शिया और हिंदू मातमी अपने कंधों पर ताज़िया उठाते हैं और शहर में जुलूस निकालते हैं। रोते-बिलखते हुए वे कर्बला की त्रासदी को याद करते हैं। हुसैन के समर्थकों की बहादुरी के गीत गाते हैं और उन कठिन हालात को याद करते हैं जिनसे हुसैन और उनके परिवार को गुज़रना पड़ा।
"इन्हें खिलाना सम्मान की बात"
यह जुलूस सुबह तक जारी रहता है और फिर दरगाह क़ासिम शाह पर कुछ देर के लिए रुकता है। इस दरगाह की देखभाल करने वाले मोहनलाल सुबह से ही इस दरगाह की सफ़ाई में लगे थे ताकि शोक मनाने वालों का स्वागत कर सकें। दर्जनों पुरुषों और बच्चों की एक टीम सब्ज़ियां काटने, बर्तन धोने और लकड़ी जलाने के काम में लगी है। मोहनलाल की अगुवाई में जुलूस में शामिल लोगों के लिए चावल और मटर बनाया गया है।
एक बड़ी देगची में सब्ज़ी चलाते हुए मोहनलाल कहते हैं, "इन्हें खिलाना सम्मान की बात है। बरसों से हम इस परंपरा का पालन कर रहे हैं।" "खाना बनाने का काम शाम तक चलेगा और हम पूरे दिन खाना खिलाएंगे। इस परंपरा का हमारे मन में बहुत सम्मान है।"
इसके बाद जुलूस आगे बढ़ जाता है। इन मातमियों की ख़िदमत करने वाले मोहनलाल इकलौते नहीं हैं। रास्ते में कई हिंदू पुरुष और महिलाएं उनके लिए खाना-पीना उपलब्ध कराते रहते हैं। शाम को यह जुलूस ख़त्म हो गया। सारे लोग एक बार फिर इमाम बरगाह मलूक शाह पर जमा हुए और यहां शोक मनाया गया।
आख़िरी परंपरा के साथ मोहर्रम का पाक महीना ख़त्म हो जाता है लेकिन यहां हिंदुओं-मुसलमानों के बीच प्रेम और सौहार्द साल भर इसी तरह जारी रहता है। यह हमजोली फिर लौटेगी। मिट्ठी के मुसलमान भी हिंदुओं का अपनी मस्जिदों में न सिर्फ स्वागत करते हैं बल्कि हिंदू त्योहारों में भी हिस्सा लेते हैं। सहिष्णुता और सह-अस्तित्व सूफी धारा के मुख्य स्तंभ हैं और यह धारा यहां हमेशा मज़बूत रही है।
