भारत कोरोना वायरस संक्रमण की दूसरी लहर से ज़बरदस्त तरीक़े से जूझ रहा है। हालांकि, सरकार का दावा है कि कई क्षेत्रों में महामारी का असर धीमा पड़ा है और संक्रमण के मामले कम हो रहे हैं।
संक्रमण दर कैसे बढ़ रही है?
भारत में कोविड-19 का संक्रमण मार्च के मध्य में बढ़ना शुरू हुआ और इसमें काफ़ी तेज़ी आती चली गई, 30 अप्रैल आते-आते इसने रिकॉर्ड बना दिया और देश में एक दिन में 4,00,000 से अधिक मामले सामने आए।
आगे के कुछ दिनों में संक्रमण के मामले गिरकर 3 मई को 3,60,000 पर पहुंच गए और अंदाज़ा लगाया गया कि भारत में कोविड का पीक ख़त्म हो चुका है।
बुधवार 5 मई को संक्रमण के 4.12 लाख रिकॉर्ड मामले सामने आए। सात दिन के संक्रमण दर के औसत को देखा जाए तो वह भी लगातार बढ़ रहा है।
लगातार हो रहे हैं टेस्ट?
वायरस के संक्रमण का प्रसार किस हद तक हो रहा है इसका पता सिर्फ़ एक बड़े स्तर पर की जा रही टेस्टिंग से ही पता चल सकता है। भारत में रोज़ाना दो करोड़ टेस्ट हो रहे हैं और इस महीने की शुरुआत में गिरकर यह आँकड़ा 15 लाख हो गया था।
हालांकि, बुधवार पाँच मई को वापस इसमें सुधार हुआ और फिर से दो करोड़ सैंपल टेस्ट हुए। टेस्ट में इस तरह की अस्थायी गिरावट के कारण ही मई के शुरुआती दिनों में संक्रमण के मामलों में कमी देखी गई थी। वहीं, देशभर के कई हिस्सों में टेस्ट भी परिवर्तनशील रहा है, कुछ इलाक़ों में मामलों में कमी देखी गई है।
विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (WHO) के सलाहकार और अर्थशास्त्री डॉक्टर रिजो जॉन कहते हैं, "पिछली बार के पीक में भी सितंबर में इसी तरह के हालात देखे गए थे।" "भारत में जब रोज़ाना संक्रमण के मामले 1,00,000 के पार जाने वाले थे तो टेस्टिंग की दर घट गई थी।"
जब प्रशासन ने यह कहा कि कुछ राज्यों में केस कम हो रहे हैं तो उसी समय महाराष्ट्र, गुजरात, तेलंगाना जैसे राज्यों और राजधानी दिल्ली में टेस्टिंग में गिरावट दर्ज की गई।
अप्रैल के मध्य में दिल्ली जब 1,00,000 टेस्ट प्रतिदिन कर रही थी तब रोज़ाना संक्रमण के मामले 16,000 के आसपास बने हुए थे। लेकिन अप्रैल के अंत में जब संक्रमण के मामले 55% से अधिक बढ़ गए तो टेस्टिंग की दर 20% गिर गई। जो दिखाता है कि संक्रमण की दर असल में कितनी अधिक होगी।
इसी तरह के ट्रेंड गुजरात और तेलंगाना राज्यों ने फ़ॉलो किए। डॉक्टर जॉन कहते हैं कि टेस्टिंग की क्षमता साफ़तौर से भारी दबाव में दिखती है जहां पर लोगों के पास टेस्ट करने की सुविधा नहीं है क्योंकि स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों पर भारी बोझ है। भारत में 1,000 लोगों पर टेस्टिंग दर 1.3 है जबकि अमेरिका में यह 3 और ब्रिटेन में 15 है।

किस तरह के टेस्ट हो रहे हैं?
भारत में ख़ासतौर से दो तरह के टेस्ट हो रहे हैं। पॉलिमरेस चेन रिएक्शन (पीसीआर) को एक गोल्ड स्टैंडर्ड का टेस्ट समझा जाता है। हालांकि, इस टेस्ट को लेकर भी ऐसी रिपोर्टें हैं कि लक्षण वाले मरीज़ों में भी यह टेस्ट नए वैरिएंट को नहीं पकड़ पा रहा है।
वहीं, कुछ राज्यों के स्वास्थ्य प्राधिकरण रैपिड एंटिजन टेस्ट पर बल दे रहे हैं जो कि बहुत जल्दी होता है लेकिन यह बहुत कम भरोसेमंद है। दिल्ली में अप्रैल में हुए तक़रीबन 35% टेस्ट रैपिड एंटिजन पद्धति से हुए थे।
इंडियन काउंसिल फ़ॉर मेडिकल रिसर्च (आईसीएमआर) ने अब सलाह दी है कि देश में बढ़ते संक्रमण के मामलों से निपटने के लिए रैपिड एंटिजन टेस्ट भी किए जाएं। इसके साथ ही यात्रियों के लिए अनिवार्य पीसीआर टेस्ट में भी ढील दी गई है ताकि 'लैब पर दबाव कम किया जा सके।
