- कल्पना प्रधान (बीबीसी ट्रैवल)
चुनाव के इस दौर में सांप्रदायिक सियासत करने वाले मज़हब के नाम पर वोट मांग रहे हैं। हिंदू-मुस्लिम को एक-दूसरे के ख़िलाफ़ खड़ा कर के वोटों की फ़सल काटने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं।
यूं तो मुसलमान बुतपरस्ती के सख़्त ख़िलाफ़ हैं। मूर्ति पूजा करने वालों को काफ़िर कहते हैं। पर, भारत में एक जगह ऐसी भी है, जहां हिंदू-मुसलमान एक ही देवी की पूजा करते हैं। ये जगह हिंदू-मुस्लिम एकता की शानदार मिसाल है।
भारत और बांग्लादेश की सीमा पर गंगा के डेल्टा में फैला हुआ इलाक़ा है सुंदरवन। ये दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा दलदली जंगल है। यूनेस्को ने इसे दुनिया के अजूबों में जगह दी है। यहां आने वाले ज्वार-भाटा और दलदली ज़मीन क़ुदरत के मेल-जोल के संदेश को बख़ूबी कहते हैं।
बांग्ला भाषा में सुंदरवन का मतलब होता है ख़ूबसूरत जंगल। क़रीब 10 हज़ार वर्ग किलोमीटर में फैले सुंदरवन में सैकड़ों द्वीप हैं। दलदली इलाक़े में फैले घने जंगल में तरह-तरह के जानवर रहते हैं। यहां स्तनधारी जीवों की 50 प्रजातियां मिलती हैं, तो 315 तरह के परिंदे भी आबाद हैं। और सांपों के वंश यानी सरीसृप वर्ग के 315 तरह के जीव यहां रहते हैं।
पर, सुंदरवन सबसे ज़्यादा मशहूर है रॉयल बंगाल टाइगर के लिए। घने जंगलों में रहने वाला रॉयल बंगाल टाइगर, अब सिर्फ़ इसी इलाक़े में पाया जाता है। कई बार वो यहां रहने वालों पर हमला कर के उनकी जान भी ले लेता है। फिर भी, सदियों से इंसान और ये ख़ूंख़ार जानवर एक साथ सुंदरवन में आबाद हैं।
सुंदरवन इलाक़े में क़रीब 45 लाख लोग रहते हैं। इनका मुख्य पेशा मछली मारना और जंगलों से शहद व लकड़ी जुटाना है। जंगल में काम करना मुश्किल भी है और ख़तरनाक भी। क्योंकि पानी से कब मगरमच्छ, सांप या बाघ हमला कर दे कुछ पता नहीं होता। पर, स्थानीय लोग ये जोख़िम लेने को मजबूर हैं। यहां हर साल क़रीब 60 लोग रॉयल बंगाल टाइगर के शिकार बनते हैं।
हिंदू-मुसलमानों की देवी
इन तमाम ख़तरों के ख़िलाफ़ सुंदरवन के ग्रामीणों को एकजुट करती है उनकी आस्था। और ये आस्था है एक देवी के प्रति। इस देवी को भारतीय और बांग्लादेशी, दोनों तरफ़ के बाशिंदे मानते हैं। इनमें हिंदू भी हैं और मुसलमान भी। अमीर हों या ग़रीब, सुंदरवन के रहने वाले सभी लोग जंगलों की तरफ़ कूच करने से पहले इस देवी के सामने सिर नवाते हैं।

सुंदरवन के हिंदू-मुसलमानों की इस देवी को वनबीबी के नाम से जाना जाता है। सुंदरवन में तीन प्रमुख नदियां आकर समुद्र में मिलती हैं। इससे पहले इनकी छोटी-छोटी धाराएं दलदली इलाक़ों से गुज़रती हैं। हर तूफ़ान के बाद नदियों के बीच का फ़र्क़ मिट जाता है। ठीक इसी तरह सुंदरवन में वनबीबी के आगे हिंदू-मुसलमान का फ़र्क़ मिट जाता है। सैकड़ों साल से दोनों समुदायों के लोग एक साथ सुंदरवन में आबाद हैं।
सुंदरवन के रहने वाले शंभूनाथ मिस्त्री कहते हैं कि जानवर जब हमला करते हैं तो वो हिंदू-मुसलमान के बीच फ़र्क़ नहीं करते। इसीलिए यहां दोनों समुदायों के लोग वनबीबी की पूजा करते हैं। वनबीबी को सुंदरवन की संरक्षक देवी कहा जाता है। हिंदू-मुसलमान एक साथ उनकी पूजा करते हैं
इलाक़े में शहद इकट्ठा करने का काम करने वाले हसन मुल्ला कहते हैं कि वनबीबी, सुंदरवन के मुस्लिम समुदाय का अटूट हिस्सा हैं। हिंदू और मुसलमान एक-दूसरे के धार्मिक कार्यक्रमों, पूजा-पाठ में एक-दूसरे को बुलाते हैं।
दोनों समुदाय मानते हैं कि वनबीबी उनकी जानवरों से हिफ़ाज़त करती हैं। वो उन्हें सीख देती हैं कि जब जंगल में तुम्हारी ज़रूरत पूरी हो जाए, तो तुम लौट जाओ। ज़्यादा लालच में न पड़ो। बाघ का हमला होने की सूरत में दोनों समुदायों के लोग मिलकर उसे भगाते हैं। कई बार वन विभाग के कर्मचारी उन्हें पकड़ कर जंगल में छोड़ देते हैं।
रॉयल बंगाल टाइगर बहुत अक़्लमंद आक्रमणकारी होता है। ये शिकार पर पीछे से हमला करता है। पहले वो इंसानों के दाहिने हाथ को तोड़ देता है। फिर उनकी रीढ़ की हड्डी, खाने की नली और फेफड़ों पर हमला करता है। बाघ को धोखा देने के लिए शहद इकट्ठा करने वाले और मछुआरे, अपने सिर के पीछे मुखौटा लगा लेते हैं, ताकि बाघ को पीछे से लगे कि वो इंसान के सामने खड़ा है।
कौन हैं वनबीबी?
शंभूनाथ मिस्त्री कहते हैं कि जब दोनों समुदायों के लोग जंगल में एकजुट होकर रहते हैं, तो बाघ भी उन पर हमला करने की हिम्मत नहीं कर सकता। वो इसके लिए वनबीबी को चढ़ावा चढ़ाते हैं। वनबीबी का मतलब है, जंगल की महिला। हिंदू और मुसलमान दोनों ही ये मानते हैं कि वनबीबी को उनकी हिफ़ाज़त के लिए स्वर्ग से धरती पर भेजा गया था।
सुंदरवन में क़िस्सा तो ये भी मशहूर है कि वनबीबी सऊदी अरब में एक मुस्लिम परिवार में पैदा हुई थीं। जब वो हज के लिए मक्का गईं, तो उन्हें दैवीय ताक़त मिल गई। इसके बाद वो 5 हज़ार किलोमीटर का सफ़र तय कर के सऊदी अरब से सुंदरवन आ गईं।
जब वनबीबी सुंदरवन पहुंचीं तो देखा कि जंगल में इंसान को खाने वाले बाघ भरे पड़े हैं। जंगल पर दक्षिण राय नाम के राक्षस का राज है। वनबीबी ने दक्षिण राय को हरा दिया। पर जब उसने रहम की भीख मांगी तो उसे माफ़ भी कर दिया। उसने वादा किया कि वो बाघों को इंसानों पर हमला करने से रोकेगा। इसके बाद से ही वनबीबी सुंदरवन की शासक बन गईं। माना जाता है कि दक्षिण राय भाग कर जंगलों में छुप गया था। वो ही अब बाघ का रूप धर कर लोगों पर हमले करता है।

यहां के मुसलमान देवी के आगे शीष नहीं झुकाते। पर, भारत हो या बांग्लादेश, सुंदरवन के हर गांव में वनबीबी का मंदिर गांव में दाख़िल होते ही दिख जाता है। मुस्लिम समुदाय के लोग वनबीबी को चढ़ावे के लिए दूध, फल, मिठाई और दूसरी चीज़ें देते हैं। मुस्लिम समुदाय में महिलाओं को बीबी कहा जाता है। यानी वनबीबी का नाम भी हिंदू-मुसलमानों की साझा विरासत और भरोसे का हिस्सा है।
जनवरी-फरवरी में वनबीबी का सालाना त्योहार मनाया जाता है। तब दोनों ही समुदायों के लोग मंदिर के बाहर जमा होते हैं। पूजा होती है। पुजारी लोगों को दक्षिण राय का क़िस्सा सुनाते हैं। महिलाएं वनबीबी के सम्मान में व्रत रखती हैं।
वनबीबी की कई प्रतिमाएं सुंदरवन के घने जंगलों में भी मिलती हैं। जब भी मछुआरे और शहद इकट्ठा करने वाले जंगल में जाते हैं, तो उससे पहले वो वनबीबी को याद करते हैं और उससे अपनी रक्षा करने की दुआ मांगते हैं।
लेकिन, आधुनिकता के विस्तार के साथ-साथ वनबीबी के प्रति हिंदू-मुस्लिम साझा श्रद्धा ख़तरे में नज़र आती दिख रही है। कई हिंदुओं को इस बात पर ऐतराज़ है कि मुसलमान उनकी देवी की पूजा क्यों करते हैं। उन्हें देवी के मुस्लिम नाम वनबीबी पर भी ऐतराज़ है। वहीं, मुस्लिम समुदाय के कुछ लोगों को देवी की पूजा यानी बुतपरस्ती से शिकायत होने लगी है।
स्थानीय लोगों को इस बात से भी फ़िक्र होने लगी है कि लोग वनबीबी की शपथ को तोड़ कर जंगल से अपनी ज़रूरत से ज़्यादा सामान ले रहे हैं। इस लालच की वजह से क़ुदरती संसाधन को लेकर खींचतान बढ़ रही है। जंगल सिकुड़ रहे हैं और बाघों के हमले बढ़ रहे हैं।
मित्रबाड़ी गांव में कई महिलाओं ने बाघों के हमले में अपने पति खो दिए। इन महिलाओं को अब अपने बच्चों का पेट भरने में भी मुश्किलें आ रही हैं। जंगलों का दायरा सिमटने से बाघ इंसानी बस्तियों का रुख़ कर रहे हैं। वन विभाग के कर्मचारी इन बाघों को पकड़ कर दोबारा जंगल में छोड़ते हैं।
आधुनिकता की दौड़ से आज सुंदरवन के जंगल और यहां के बाघ ख़तरे में हैं। साथ ही ख़तरे में है हिंदुओं और मुसलमानों की साझा आस्था की प्रतीक वनबीबी। हालांकि, उम्मीद यही है कि जब तक इंसान और जंगली जानवर सुंदरवन में एक साथ रह रहे हैं, वनबीबी भी उनकी हिफ़ाज़त के लिए मौजूद रहेगी।
