ચંદ્રયાન-2નો વિક્રમ લૅન્ડર સાથેનો સંપર્ક ચંદ્રની સપાટી પર ઊતરવાની થોડી ક્ષણો પહેલાં જ તૂટી ગયો હતો. ઈસરોના અધ્યક્ષ કે. સિવને મિશન બાદ કહ્યું, "વિક્રમ લૅન્ડર યોજના પ્રમાણે જ ઊતરી રહ્યું હતું અને સપાટીથી 2.1 કિલોમિટર દૂર હતું ત્યાં સુધી બધું સામાન્ય હતું."

"જોકે, બાદમાં તેની સાથેનો સંપર્ક તૂટી ગયો હતો. ડેટાની સમીક્ષા કરવામાં આવી રહી છે."

વિક્રમ 7 સપ્ટેમ્બરના 1:30 વાગ્યાથી 2:30 વાગ્યાની વચ્ચે ચંદ્રની સપાટી પર ઊતરવાનું હતું.

ભારતીય અંતરિક્ષ વૈજ્ઞાનિકની ઉપલબ્ધિને જોવા માટે અને તેમનો ઉત્સાહ વધારવા માટે વડા પ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદી બેંગલુરુમાં આવેલા ઈસરોના મુખ્યાલયે પહોંચ્યા હતા. બધું બરાબર ચાલી રહ્યું હતું અને વૈજ્ઞાનિકો લૅન્ડર વિક્રમને સપાટીની નજીક પહોંચવાની દરેક ક્ષણ પર નજર રાખી રહ્યા હતા. જોકે, અંતિમક્ષણોમાં ઈસરોના કેન્દ્રમાં તણાવ જેવી સ્થિતિ બની ગઈ અને વૈજ્ઞાનિકોના ચહેરા પર ચિંતાની લકીરો દેખાવા લાગી.

થોડીવાર બાદ ઈસરોના અધ્યક્ષ વડા પ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદી પાસે આવ્યા અને તેમને આ મામલે જાણકારી આપી. જે બાદ ઈસરોના અધ્યક્ષે દેશને જણાવ્યું કે ચંદ્રયાન-2ના વિક્રમ લૅન્ડર સાથેનો સંપર્ક તૂટી ગયો છે.

જે બાદ વડા પ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદી વૈજ્ઞાનિકોની વચ્ચે ગયા અને તેમને હિંમત આપતા કહ્યું, "જીવનમાં ઉતાર-ચઢાવ આવતા રહે છે."

"હું જોઈ રહ્યો હતો જ્યારે કૉમ્યુનિકેશન ઑફ થઈ ગયું હતું, પરંતુ આ કોઈ નાની ઉપલબ્ધિ નથી. દેશને તમારા પર ગર્વ છે અને તમારી મહેનતે ખૂબ શીખવ્યું પણ છે."

"મારા તરફથી તમને અભિનંદન, તમે દેશની ઉત્તમ સેવા કરી છે, વિજ્ઞાનની ખૂબ મોટી સેવા કરી છે, માનવજાતિની ખૂબ મોટી સેવા કરી છે."

"આ પડાવ પરથી પણ આપણે ઘણું બધું જાણવા મળ્યું છે, આગળ પણ આપણી યાત્રા ચાલુ રહેશે અને હું સંપૂર્ણરીતે તમારી સાથે છું."

અંતિમ ક્ષણોમાં શું થયું?

ભારતીય અંતરિક્ષ વૈજ્ઞાનિકો માટે શુક્રવારની રાત ઐતિહાસિક માનવામાં આવી રહી હતી સાથે જ મુશ્કેલ પણ. રાત્રે દોઢ વાગ્યે ઈસરોના વૈજ્ઞાનિકોએ ચંદ્રયાન-2ના લૅન્ડર વિક્રમને ધીરેધીરે ચંદ્રની સપાટી પર ઊતારવાનું શરૂ કર્યું. વિક્રમ લૅન્ડરને પહેલાં ચંદ્રની કક્ષામાં મોજુદ ઑર્બિટરથી અલગ કરવાનું હતું અને પછી તેને ચંદ્રની સપાટી પર લઈ જવાનું હતું.

લૅન્ડરની અંદર પ્રજ્ઞાન નામનું રોવર પણ હતું જે સુરક્ષિત લૅન્ડિંગ બાદ ચંદ્રની સપાટી પર ફરીને માહિતી એકઠી કરવાનું હતું. ઈસરોના ચંદ્રયાન-2ને ઉતારવા માટે ચંદ્રનો દક્ષિણ ધ્રુવ પસંદ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. વિક્રમ લૅન્ડરને ચંદ્રની સપાટી પર ઉતારતાં પહેલાં તેની સ્પીડમાં ઘટાડો કરવાનો હતો.

ઈસરોના વૈજ્ઞાનિકો સ્પીડ ઘટાડવામાં પણ સફળ રહ્યા પરંતુ લૅન્ડર જ્યારે થોડી જ ક્ષણોમાં ચંદ્રની સપાટી પર ઊતરવાનું હતું અને તે 2.1 કિલોમિટર સપાટીથી દૂર હતું ત્યારે તેની સાથેનો સંપર્ક તૂટી ગયો. જે બાદ ઈસરોના મુખ્યાલયમાં બેઠેલા વૈજ્ઞાનિકોના મોં પર ચિંતા દેખાવા લાગી અને થોડીવારમાં દેશને જાણ કરવામાં આવી કે વિક્રમ લૅન્ડર સાથેનો સંપર્ક તૂટી ગયો છે.

સંપર્ક તૂટવાનું કારણ શું હતું અને ક્યાંથી ઈસરો સંપર્ક તૂટી ગયો તે અંગે હજી સુધી કોઈ માહિતી આપી નથી. ઈસરોનો ઑર્બિટર સાથે કે લૅન્ડર સાથે સંપર્ક તૂટ્યો તે પણ જાણવા મળ્યું નથી. ભારતે ચંદ્રયાન-2 મિશન પાછળ એક દાયકો મહેનત કરી છે અને તેની પાછળ કુલ 978 કરોડ રૂપિયાનો ખર્ચ થયો છે.

ઈસરોના ચૅરમૅને કહ્યું છે કે તેમની ટીમ આ ઘટના અંગે ડેટા એકત્ર કરી તેનું વિશ્લેષણ કરી રહી છે. જે બાદ જ જાણવા મળશે કે ખરેખર ક્યાં ચૂક થઈ હતી.
