 સોળ સોમવારની વાર્તા

( આ વ્રતની શરૂઆત શ્રાવણ મહિનાના સોમવારથી કરવામાં આવે છે. આ વ્રત કરનારે સોમવારે શીવજીના મંદિરે જઈને ભાવ પૂર્વક ઉમા-મહેશની પૂજા કરવી. તે દિવસે એકટાણુ કરવું અને વાર્તા કહેતી વખતે અને સાંભળતી વખતે હાથમાં ચોખા રાખવા.)
વાર્તા:

શીવ અને પાર્વતી સોગઠા રમવા બેઠા હતાં પરંતુ કોઇ હારતુ નહોતુ એટલામાં જ એક બ્રાહ્મણ ત્યાં આવ્યો તેથી શિવજીએ તેને કહ્યુ કે બ્રાહ્મણ તમે નિર્ણય કરવાનો છે હારેલાને હાર્યો કહેજો અને જીતેલાને જીતેલો.

પહેલી વખતે સોગઠા નાંખ્યાં તો બ્રાહ્મણે કહ્યું કે શિવજી જીત્યાં બીજી વખત પણ તેવું જ કહ્યું અને ત્રીજી વખત પણ તેણે એવું જ કહ્યું કેમકે તે શિવના કોપથી બચવા માંગતો હતો. પરંતુ પાર્વતી ગુસ્સે થઈ ગયાં અને તેને શ્રાપ આપ્યો કે જા તને રક્ત પિત્તિયો અને કોઢ થશે.

જોત જોતામાં તો બ્રાહ્મણના આખા શરીરે કોડ નીકળી ગયાં અને પરૂ પણ વહેવા લાગ્યું. તે હિમાલય પરથી રડતો રડતો નીચે ઉતરતો હતો ત્યારે રસતામાં ગાય મળી તેને પુછયુ કે ક્યાં જાવ છો તમે? તો બ્રાહ્મણે જવાબ આપ્યો કે મને મા પાર્વતીનો કોપ લાગ્યો છે તેનું નિવારણ કરવા જાઉ છું.

ત્યારે ગાયે કહ્યું કે મારુ દુ:ખ પણ સાંભળતાં જાવ મારા આંચળ ફાટુ ફાટુ થાય છે પરંતુ મારૂ દૂધ કોઇ પીતુ નથી વાછરદા પણ ધાવતા નથી તો એવા કયા પાપ કર્યા છે?તેનું નિવારણ પણ પૂછતાં આવજો.

ત્યાર બાદ તેમને ઘોડો મળ્યો તેને પણ બ્રાહ્મણની વાત સાંભળી પોતાનુ દુ:ખ જણાવ્યું કે મારે પીઠ પર મોતીના પલાણ છે પરંતુ મારી પર કોઇ સવારી કરતું નથી. મે એવા તે કયા પાપ કર્યા હશે તેનું નિવારણ પણ પુછતાં આવજો.

ત્યાર બાદ આગળ જતાં તેઓ અક આંબા નીચે આરામ કરવા બેઠા તો આંબો પન બોલ્યો કે હે બ્રાહ્મણ મારા સવાશેરના ફળ ખાનાર વ્યક્તિ મોતને શરણે થાય છે તો તેનું નિવારણ પુછતાં આવજો.

જ્યારે તેઓ તળાવે પાણી પીવા ગયાં ત્યારે એક મગર ત્યાં આવ્યો અને કહેવા લાગ્યો કે મારા રુવે રુવે બળતરા થાય છે પાણીમાં રહું કે બહાર બળતરા તો ઓછી થતી જ નથી. તો મારા પાપનું પણ નિવારણ પુછતાં આવજો.

શરીરે પરૂ નીતરતું હતું અને બ્રાહ્મણ ઘોર જંગલમાં જઈને એક પગ પર ઉભો રહીને તપસ્યા કરવા લાગ્યો. કાંઇ પણ ખાધા કે પીધા વીના તે શિવજીના જાપ કરવા લાગ્યો. ભગવાન શિવ તેના ઘોર તપ પર પ્રસન્ન થઈને બોલ્યા કે માંગ માંગ જે જોઈએ તે આપુ.

તો બ્રાહ્મણે કહ્યું કે હે પ્રભુ મારા કોઢનું નિવારણ કરો. તો ભગવાને કહ્યું કે જા તુ શ્રધ્ધાપૂર્વક સોમવારનું વ્રત કરજે તારૂ દુખ દુર થઈ જશે.

બ્રાહ્મણે પુછ્યુ કે વ્રત કેવી રીતે થાય છે તે જરા મને જણાવો. ત્યારે શિવે જણાવ્યું કે શ્રાવણના પ્રથમ સોમવારે દોરાની સેરે ચાર ગાંઠો વાળવી, પીળા પટે દોરો બાંધી મારા દર્શન કરવા અને એકટાણુ કરવું. કારતક માસના શુક્લ પક્ષે સોળ સોમવાર પુરા થાય એટલે સવા શેર ઘઊંના લાડવા બનાવીને તેના ચાર ભાગ કરી એક ભાગ પૂજારીને, બીજો ભાગ બાળકોને, ત્રીજો ગાયને અને ચોથાથી કીડીઓના નગરા પુરવા. જો આ તુ વ્રત શ્રધ્ધાપૂર્વક કરીશ તો તારી કાયા કંચન જેવી થઈ જશે.

ત્યાર બાદ બ્રાહ્મણે રસ્તામાં મળેલ ગાય, ઘોડો, તળાવ, આંબો, મગર વગેરેના દુ:ખ વિશે જણાવ્યું અને તેઓના દુ:ખન આ નિવારણ વિશે પુછ્યુ તો ભગવાને કહ્યુ-

હે બ્રાહ્મણ જે ગાય તને મળી હતી તે ગયાં જન્મમાં સ્ત્રી હતી. તેને ધાવતા બાળકોને તરછોડ્યા હતાં તેથી આ જન્મમાં તેનું દૂધ કોઇ પીતુ નથી. તુ તેના દૂધથી મારી પૂજા કરજે તો તેનુ દુ:ખ દૂર થશે.

ત્યાર બાદ શિવે ઘોડા વિશે જણાવતાં કહ્યું તે ગયાં જન્મમાં એક વણીક હતો. તેને ગયાં જન્મમાં ઘણા લોકોને છેતરીને લુટ્યાં હતાં તેથી આ જન્મમાં તેની આવી હાલત થઇ છે. તુ મારૂ નામ લઈ તેની પર સવારી કરજ એતો તેનું દુ:ખ દૂર થઈ જશે.

ત્યાર બાદ શિવે આંબાનું દુ:ખનુ નિવારણ કરતાં કહ્યું કે ગયાં જન્મમાં એક કપટી કંજુસ હતો અને તેને સાચાનું ખોટુ અને ખોટાનું શાચુ કરી ધન ભેગુ કર્યું હતું તેથી તેની આવી હાલત હતી. તુ તેના નીચે ખાડો ખોદીશ તો તને ધનનાં ઘડા મળશે તેનાથી તુ પરબ બંધાવજે અને ગરીબોને દાન કરજે. તો તેના ફળ અમૃત જેવા થઈ જશે.

મગર વિશે પણ જણાવ્યું કે તે ગયાં જન્મમાં એક બ્રાહ્મણ હતો અને તે ખુબ જ વિદ્વાન હતો પણ તેને કોઇને વિધ્યાનું દાન કર્યું નહિ તેથી તેના રુવે રુવે બળતરા થાય છે. તુ બીલીપત્રને તેની આંખોને અડકાળીને તેને પ્રસાદ આપજે તો તેની બળતરા શાંત થઈ જશે.

બ્રાહ્મણે પાછા ફરતી વખતે બધાના પાપનું નિવારણ કર્યું જે રીતે શિવજીએ કહ્યું હતું તેમ જ કર્યું તો તે બધાને તેમાંથી મુક્તિ મળી ગઈ. અને શિવજીના કહ્યાં પ્રમાણે તેને સોળ સોઅવારનું વ્રત કર્યું તો તેનું દુ:ખ પણ દૂર થઈ ગયું. અને તેની કાયા ફરીથી કંચન જેવી થઈ ગઈ.

આ રીતે સોળ સોમવારનું વ્રત કરવાથી દરેકની મનોકામના પૂર્ણ થઈ જાય છે. અને ભગવાન શિવ સદાય તેમની પર કૃપાયમાન રહે છે.
