अपनी भाषा, अपनी लिपि : जानिए क्यों है जरूरी

भाषा एवं लिपि की विविधता और एकरूपता

भारत जैसी बहुभाषी व बहुलिपि वाले देश में भाषाई समस्या के मद्‍देनजर कई बार कश्मीर से कन्याकुमारी और अरुणाचल से कच्छ तक एक ही लिपि अपनाने की बात कही जाती रही है। राष्ट्रीय एकीकरण और संवाद के सरलीकरण के दृष्टिकोण से प्रथम दृष्ट्‍या यह सोच सही मानी जा सकती है। शायद इसीलिए इस देश के महान सपूतों ने अपनी लेखनी, अपनी वाणी के माध्यम से इस बात का पुरजोर समर्थन किया है। 

राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गाँधी ने 'हरिजन सेवक' में लिखा है 'बंगाली में लिखी हुई गीतांजलि को सिवा बंगालियों के और पढ़ेगा ही कौन'। यह निर्दयता नहीं तो और क्या है कि देवनागरी के अतिरिक्त तमिल, तेलुगू, कन्नड़, मलयालम, उड़िया तथा बंगाली इन छ: लिपियों को सीखने में दिमाग खपाया जाए।

आचार्य विनोबा भावे के अनुसार देवनागरी लिपि हमारे लिए रक्षा कवच है। इसी बात को समझाते हुए वे लिखते हैं 'यदि हम सारे देश के लिए देवनागरी को अपना लें तो हमारा देश बहुत मजबूत हो जाएगा, फिर तो देवनागरी ऐसा रक्षा कवच सिद्ध हो सकती है, जैसी कोई भी नहीं हो सकती।'

पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू का मत थोड़ा-सा जुदा है, वे लिखते हैं 'देवनागरी को समूची भारतीय भाषाओं के लिए अतिरिक्त लिपि के रूप में स्वीकार कर लेना चाहिए। इससे एक राज्य के निवासी दूसरे राज्य की भाषाएँ आसानी से सीख सकेंगे, क्योंक‍ि असली कठिनाई भाषा की उतनी नहीं है, जितनी लिपि की है।' पंडितजी का वक्तव्य उनकी राजनीतिज्ञ-कूटनीतिज्ञ की छवि से बहुत कुछ मेल खाता है। एक शब्द 'अतिरिक्त' का प्रयोग कर उन्होंने मध्यम मार्ग अपना लिया है।

एक अन्य महान् व्यक्तित्व दयानंद सरस्वती कहते हैं - 'मेरे नेत्र तो वे दिन देखना चाहते हैं, जब कश्मीर से कन्याकुमारी और अटक से कटक तक नागरी अक्षरों का ही उपयोग और प्रचार होगा।'

जाहिर है स्वामीजी की सोच वर्तमान भारत में देवनागरी के उपयोग के बजाय तत्कालीन भारत जिसमें पाकिस्तान, अफगानिस्तान और बांग्लादेश के बारे में भी रही होगी। कुछ पाश्चात्य दृष्टिकोण वाले विद्वतजन रोमन लिपि के उपयोग के बारे में अपने विचार व्यक्त करते हैं। वे उपमहाद्वीपीय सोच के बजाय अंतरराष्ट्रीय उपयोगिता के बारे में ज्यादा चिंतित हैं।

मैं यहाँ न तो देवनागरी के समर्थन में अपनी बात कर रहा हूँ न रोमन के समर्थन में मैं तो बहुलिपि का हामी हूँ और वह भी सभी विद्वतजन से क्षमा माँगने के बाद। वैसे भी, ब्रह्मा ने अपनी अक्ल से विभिन्नता का सृजन किया है - वनस्पति जगत और जीव जगत की विविधता से तो आप सब लोग वाकिफ हैं ही। सांस्कृतिक विविधताएँ हमारा मन मोह लेती हैं। सामाजिक विभिन्नताएँ हमें प्रवास करने को उत्प्रेरित करती हैं। हम कुछ नया देखने के लिए नया सुनने के लिए आतुर हो जाते हैं।

सा‍माजिक सरोकार के हर कदम पर नए की जरूरत रहती है तो नई भाषा सीखना भी तो नयापन है, एक सामाजिक जरूरत है, जो मुख और लिपि दो माध्यमों से व्यक्त होती है। हम क्यों बचना चाहते हैं इस नएपन से, जो सामाजिक आवश्यकता के अलावा एक नई चुनौती भी है।

सर्वप्रथम लिपि सीखना उतना कठिन नहीं है, जितना लोग मानते हैं। मंगोलियन समूह की भाषाओं को छोड़कर दुनिया की तमाम भाषाओं की लिपि तीन-चार दिन के परिश्रम से सीखी जा सकती है। मैंने शासकीय बाल विनय मंदिर, इंदौर के 30-40 बच्चों को मलयालम सिखाना शुरू की। मैंने शायद चार दिन आधा-आधा घंटे सिखाई होगी। इस थोड़े से समय में सभी बच्चों को मलयालम लिपि का ज्ञान हो गया। शिक्षक दिवस के दिन कई बच्चों ने ग्रीटिंग कार्ड्‍स मलयालम में लिखकर दिए। 

यदि नौवीं कक्षा के बच्चे दो-तीन घंटे में लिपि सीख सकते हैं तो अन्य किसी के लिए भी एक सप्ताह पर्याप्त है। जरूरत है दो चीजों की - लिपि सीखने का व्यवस्थित तरीका और ट्रांसफर और लर्निंग (पूर्व ज्ञान का स्थानांतरण)

दूसरे, यदि हम एक ही लिपि की कोशिश करते हैं तो कुछ वर्षों बाद या ऐसा कहें कुछ पीढ़ियों के बाद लोग अपनी भाषा की मूल लिपि भूल जाएँगे और मूल लिपि में लिखा गया सब कुछ सिंधु घाटी की सभ्यता की लिपि की मानिंद हो जाएगा। उदाहरण के लिए कई वर्षों पूर्व इंदौर के होलकर राजघराने के दस्तावेज मोड़ी लिपि में लिखे जाते थे। धीरे-धीरे मराठी भाषियों में मोड़ी लिपि जानने वालों की संख्‍या कमतर होने लगी। आज स्थिति यह है कि जमीन-जायदाद के लिखे दस्तावेजों को पढ़ना दूभर हो गया है।

भारत जैसे देश में हमारी मानसिक स्थिति ऐसी नहीं है कि हम दूसरों की चीज आसानी से जज्ब कर लें। हमारे लिए दूसरों की फूड हेबिट अपचन का कारण बन जाती है। दूसरों की सांस्कृतिक विरासत सिर्फ नएपन के तौर पर अच्छी लगती है, पर रोजमर्रा की जिंदगी में सिर्फ अपना और सिर्फ अपना ही चाहिए तब लिपि भी कहाँ अछूती है। हम क्यों छोड़ें अपनी दूसरों के लिए। हर वाक्य हर आम और खास को प्रेरित करेगा सिर्फ अपनी ही अपनाने के लिए।

लिपि के मामले में अंतिम पर महत्वपूर्ण बात जो हमारे सामाजिक परिवेश से जुडी हुई है 'किसी भी मुस्लिम बहुल मोहल्ले में चले जाइए, हर जगह उर्दू में लिखे पोस्टर चिपके मिल जाएँगे। इन हर्फों को समझना आपके-मेरे लिए नामुमकिन होगा। जब कुछ लोग अपनी बात कुछ अपनों से ही कहना चाहते हैं, दूसरों के साथ बाँटना नहीं चाहते हों तो क्यों करेंगे नागरी का उपयोग।
