ગુજરાતની આદિવાસી સંસ્કૃતિને ઉજાગર કરતો 'ગોળ ગધેડાનો મેળો' એ રાજ્યના સૌથી પ્રખ્યાત અને અનોખા લોકમેળાઓમાંનો એક છે. આ મેળો મુખ્યત્વે ગુજરાતના દાહોદ જિલ્લાના આદિવાસી વિસ્તારોમાં ઉજવાય છે. ખાસ કરીને દાહોદ જિલ્લાના ગરબાડા તાલુકાના જેસાવાડા (કે જસાવાડા) ગામે ભરાતો ગોળ ગધેડાનો મેળો સૌથી વધુ લોકપ્રિય છે. અહીં દર વર્ષે આસપાસના વિસ્તારોમાંથી હજારોની સંખ્યામાં લોકો પોતાના પારંપરિક પોશાકમાં સજ્જ થઈને ઉમટી પડે છે, જે ગુજરાતના સમૃદ્ધ લોકવારસાનું ઉત્તમ ઉદાહરણ પૂરું પાડે છે.

ગોળ ગધેડાનો મેળો ક્યારે યોજાય છે?

આ ઐતિહાસિક મેળો રંગોના તહેવાર હોળી અને ધુળેટી પછીના દિવસોમાં યોજવામાં આવે છે. સામાન્ય રીતે હોળી પછીના પાંચમા, છઠ્ઠા, સાતમા કે બારમા દિવસે આ મેળાનું આયોજન ગામના મોટા જાહેર મેદાનમાં કરવામાં આવે છે. આ દિવસે આદિવાસીઓ હાથમાં ઢોલ-નગારા અને અન્ય પારંપરિક વાદ્યો સાથે નાચતા-ગાતા મેળામાં પહોંચે છે, જેનાથી સમગ્ર વાતાવરણ ઉત્સાહ અને ઉમંગથી ભરાઈ જાય છે.

મેળાની તૈયારીઓ

આ મેળાની સૌથી મોટી વિશેષતા તેમાં રમાતી એક સાહસિક અને રોમાંચક રમત છે. મેળાના મેદાનની બરાબર મધ્યમાં એક ઊંચો અને લીસ્સો થાંભલો રોપવામાં આવે છે. મોટાભાગે આ માટે સીમળાના ઝાડના 25 થી 30 ફૂટ ઊંચા થડનો ઉપયોગ થાય છે, જેની છાલ કાઢીને તેને એકદમ લીસ્સું (સરકી જવાય તેવું) બનાવવામાં આવે છે. આ લાકડાના સ્તંભની છેક ટોચ પર ગોળ ભરેલી એક પોટલી બાંધવામાં આવે છે, જે આ સમગ્ર મેળાનું મુખ્ય આકર્ષણ હોય છે.

ગોળ ગધેડાની રમત:

રમતની શરૂઆત થતાં ગામના કુંવારા યુવાનો આ લીસ્સા થાંભલા પર ચઢીને ટોચ પર બાંધેલી ગોળની પોટલી ઉતારવાનો પ્રયાસ કરે છે. પરંતુ આ કામ બિલકુલ સરળ હોતું નથી! થાંભલાની ચારેબાજુ ગામની કુંવારી યુવતીઓ હાથમાં વાંસની સોટીઓ (લાકડીઓ) લઈને ઊભી હોય છે. જ્યારે પણ કોઈ યુવાન થાંભલા પર ચઢવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરે, ત્યારે આ યુવતીઓ તેને રોકવા માટે તેના પર સોટીઓનો સખત વરસાદ વરસાવે છે.

નામ પાછળનું કારણ અને વિજેતા:

યુવાનોએ લાકડાની ટોચ સુધી પહોંચવા માટે ગધેડાની જેમ આ સોટીઓનો સતત માર સહન કરવો પડે છે. માર ખાવા છતાં જે શૂરવીર યુવાન થાંભલાની ટોચ પર પહોંચી જાય છે અને ગોળની પોટલી નીચે ઉતારી લાવે છે, તેને અંતિમ વિજેતા જાહેર કરવામાં આવે છે. ત્યારબાદ તે યુવાન આ ગોળ પોતે ખાય છે અને મેળામાં ઉપસ્થિત અન્ય લોકોને વહેંચે છે. ગોળ મેળવવા માટે ગધેડાની જેમ લાકડીઓનો માર ખાવો પડતો હોવાથી જ આ મેળાને 'ગોળ ગધેડાનો મેળો' કહેવામાં આવે છે.

ઇતિહાસ અને પ્રાચીન સ્વયંવર પ્રથા:

આ મેળાનો ઇતિહાસ પ્રાચીન આદિવાસી સંસ્કૃતિની 'સ્વયંવર' પ્રથા સાથે જોડાયેલો છે. ભૂતકાળમાં આ મેળો યુવાનો માટે પોતાની શારીરિક ક્ષમતા, શૌર્ય અને સહનશીલતા સાબિત કરવાની એક કસોટી સમાન હતો. એવી ઐતિહાસિક પરંપરા હતી કે જે યુવાન માર સહન કરીને ગોળની પોટલી ઉતારવામાં સફળ થાય, તે મેળામાં હાજર રહેલી યુવતીઓમાંથી પોતાની મનપસંદ કન્યાને પત્ની તરીકે પસંદ કરી શકતો હતો અને યુવતીઓ પણ આવા સાહસિક યુવાન સાથે રાજીખુશીથી લગ્ન કરતી હતી.

વર્તમાન સમયમાં મેળાનું મહત્વ:

સમયની સાથે આધુનિકતા આવતા હવે સીધા લગ્ન કરી લેવાની આ 'સ્વયંવર' પ્રથાનું સ્વરૂપ ભલે ધીમે ધીમે બદલાયું હોય, પરંતુ મેળાનું સાંસ્કૃતિક મહત્વ આજે પણ અકબંધ છે. આજે પણ આ મેળો આદિવાસી સમાજની એકતા, ખેલદિલી અને શૌર્યનું જીવંત ઉદાહરણ પૂરું પાડે છે. તે માત્ર એક મનોરંજન નથી, પરંતુ આદિવાસી લોકજીવનની સદીઓ જૂની ધબકતી સંસ્કૃતિ અને પરંપરાઓને જાળવી રાખતો અમૂલ્ય વારસો છે.
