સતપુડાની પહાડીના વચ્ચે વસેલું પચમઢી 
 
મધ્યપ્રદેશના હોશંગાબાદ જિલ્લામાં સ્થિત પચમઢીએ મધ્ય ભારતનો સૌથી સુંદર પર્યટન સ્થળ છે. અહીંના લીલાછમ અને શાંત વાતાવરણમાં બહુ ઘણી નદીઓ અને ઝરનાના ગીત પર્યટકને મંત્રમુગ્ધ કરી નાખે છે. તેના સાથે જ અહીં શિવશંકરના ઘણા મંદિર પણ છે, જે તમને તીર્થયાત્રાની લાગણી કરાવશે. આમ તો એવા બહુ ઓછુ હોય છે કે તમે ક્યાંક રજા મનાવવા જાઓ અને સાથે તમારી તીર્થયાત્રા પણ થઈ જાય્ પણ સાચી માનો, જો તમે મધ્યપ્રદેશના એકમાત્ર પર્વતીય પર્યટન સ્થળ પચમઢી જશો, તો પ્રકૃતિના ભરપૂર આનંદ ઉઠાવવાની સાથે તમારી તીર્થયાત્રા પણ થઈ જશે. 
 
* મહાદેવનો બીજું ઘર પચમઢી- આમતો પચમઢીને કૈલાશ પર્વત પછી મહાદેવનો બીજું ઘર કહી શકે છે. પૌરાણિક કથા મુજબ ભસ્માસુર(જેને પોતે મહાદેવએ આ વરદાન આપ્યું હતું કે એ જેના માથા પર હાથ ધરશે એ બળી જશે અને ભસ્માસુરએ આ આ વરદાન પોતે શિવજી પર જ અજમાઆ ઈચ્છ્તો હતો)થી બચવા માતે ભગવાન શિવએ જે કંદારાઓ અને ખોહોની શરણ લીધી હતી એ બધા પચમઢીમાં છે. 
તેથી અહીં ભગવાનના શિવ મંદિર જોવાય છે. પચમઢી પાંડવો માટે પણ ઓળખાય છે. અહીંની માન્યતા મુજબ પાંડવો તેમના અજ્ઞાતવાસનો થોડો સમય અહીં જ પસાર કર્યું હતું અને અહીં તેની પાંચ કુટી કે મઢી કે પાંચ ગુફાઓ હતી. જેના નામ પર આ સ્થાનનો નામ પચમઢી પડ્યું. 
 
-પચમઢી -સતપુડાની રાણી: પૌરાણિક કથાઓથી બહાર આજની વાત કરે તો મધ્યપ્રદેશના હોશંગાબાદ જિલ્લામાં સ્થિત પચમઢી સમુદ્રતળથી 1,067મીટરની ઉંચાઈ પર સ્થિત છે. સતપુડાની પહાડીના વચ્ચે હોવાથી અને તેમના સુંદર સ્થળના કારણે તેને સતપુડાની રાણી પણ કહેવાય છે. 
 
*સતપુડાના ગાઢ જંગલ - સતપુડા રાષ્ટ્રીય ઉદ્યાનનો ભાગ હોવાના કારણે અહીં ચારે બાહુ ગાઢ જંગલ છે.  પચમઢીના જંગલ ખાસકરીને જંગલી ભેંસા માટે પ્રસિદ્ધ પચમઢીથી નિકળીને જ્યારે તમે સતપુડાના ગાઢ જંગલોમાં જશો તો તમને વાઘ, તેંદુઆ, સાંભર, ચીતલ, ગૌર, ચિંકારા, રીંછ વગેરે ઘણા પ્રકારના જંગલી જાનવર મળે છે. પચમઢીનો ઠંડો સુહાવનો મૌસમ તેની સૌથી મોટી વિશેષતા છે. શિયાળામાં અહીં તાપમાન 4 થી 5 ડિગ્રી રહે છે અને ગર્મીઓમાં તાપમાન 35 ડિગ્રીથી વધારે નહી જતુ. 
 
 
કેવી રીતે જવું - જો તમે દિલ્હીથી જઈ રહ્યા છો તો તમને ભોપાલ સુધી પહોંચવું પડશે. અહીંથી પચમઢીની દૂરી 211 કિલોમીટર છે અને આ દૂરી નક્કી કરવા માટે બસ મળતી રહે છે. આ 211 કિલોમીટર જો તમે પોતાની ગાડીથી નક્કી કરો તો અતિ ઉત્તમ છે. આમતો પચમઢીના નજીકી રેલ્વે સ્ટેશન પિપરીયા છે જે કે પચમઢીથી 52 કિલોમીટર દૂર છે. 
કયાં રોકાવું- મધ્યપ્રદેશના મુખ્ય પર્યટન સ્થળ હોવાના કારણે હોટલોની બાબતમાં પચમઢી ખૂબ સમૃદ્ધ છે. અહીં પંજાબીના સિવાય જૈન, ગુજરાતી અને મરાઠી ભોજન સરળતાથી મળી જાય છે. કારણકે વર્ષમાં એક વાર અહીં મેળો લાગે છે જેમાં પાડોસી રાજય મહારાષ્ટ્ર અને ગુજરાતના લોકોની પણ ભાગીદારી સૌથી વધારે હોય છે. મધ્યપ્રદેશ ટૂરિજ્મના હોટલો સિવાય અહીં પ્રાયવેટ હોટલ પણ ખૂબ છે.
